Both of these trees (Black Oak) were first climbed and reduced to a point to where we felt comfortable felling the stems. These stems were both taken in directions opposing their lean. The first tree stem in the video had a heavy side lean but also offered a slight front lean in our favor. A side guy was installed as a precautionary measure in case the event of a tear out. This stem was cut with an aim 5 feet beyond the desired lay to account for the lean, with more holding wood on the tension side then the compression side, it was also bore cut to ensure the desired amount of holding wood.
The second tree stem had a heavy back lean. This tree was pulled over center using a 5 to 1 pulling system. An open face cut was made in the tree to allow for the long travel without closing prematurely.
