When it comes to laundry stains, I want something that is really going to work! In this video, I am comparing Fels-Naptha laundry bar & stain remover against your basic Dawn dishsoap. For the record, I use Dawn on everything. It is my go to product! Can Dawn hold it's place next to the old guy, Fels-Naptha? Watch and see!
Thank you for supporting my channel! I create 2 new videos every week on simple living, homestead grown, and all things home. ♥Julie

I bought that soap and a wash board to use if I was unable to use my washer for any lenght of time or had something like that that needed a good scrubbing. It is a small one that fits in my kitchen sink. I love that soap for scrubbing! I had never seen anyone use it or a scrub board, I had to google it, That's how I have learned everything I have needed except gardening and sewing and crocheting I had been doing them since I was a child. But canning, dehydrating and food prep and long term and short term storage RU-vid has been my teacher with wonderful videos from people like you. Thank You.

I've been using Fels-Naptha for years my grandma used it. I make my own homemade chicken broth. And one day I dumped chicken grease down my shirt it was a 10 by 12 inch solid Grease mess. I rubbed Fels-Naptha on the grease threw it in the dirty laundry basket, and forgot it for a week!!! Then threw it in the laundry with the rest of my clothes. Came out perfect no more grease!!!

First let me say that I am so glad you didn't get burned! Second, that's amazing! It's like I always say, "Don't fix what isn't broken." Fels Naptha worked just fine for our grandparents, so why keep trying to replace it? It's STILL working today! 💪 Thank you for sharing your story ❤ Have a beautiful day!

Fels Naptha is probably the most universal soap that I have encountered. I grate some up, mix it in a spray bottle for an excellent all purpose cleaner. Another really good brand that is just as universal is called Zote. It also comes as a bar (about twice as big) for just as cheap.

Thanks for the idea about mixing it in a spray bottle. I had wondered about that, whether it could be premixed and used as a liquid.

You should be a teacher for young ladies! Wish they still had home economics classes!

Thank you! I do teach a monthly class called, "Keepers of the Home", where I show and share basic homemaking skills with women. We talk and learn about how to make your own natural cleaners, how to can foods, make homemade breads, pies, meals, learn how to budget, craft, & sew. I've been teaching this for about 9 or 10 years. Like you, I wish home economics was still something schools taught. It's needed more than they realize.

Also, I rarely use aerosols, but I do own a can of Scotchguard and I use it on anything that is susceptible to stains. I bought some cute white canvas sneakers and first thing I did was spray them down and I at least have the illusion of an umbrella against heavy stains. I don't wear them except for running around (so no lawn mowing, yard work or in the rain) so cannot attest to how perfect this solution is, but I do recommend this for protection.

Thank you, and you are welcome! Little ones always seem to know how to get so dirty, so fast, but as long as they are healthy and curious, we never seem to mind. Our boys liked mud. If they couldn't find it, they made it. 🤪 Have a blessed day, my friend!

One tip I saw on Martha Stewart ages ago, have a good set up for scrubbing. She had a sturdy metal pie pan she would use as a surface and like you a very good strong brush. This could be done sitting at a counter or table in the kitchen instead of on the washing machine. I think I often would just give up since I was standing in the dingy basement in front of the washer trying to pre-treat items!

I know this experience. My dad passed three years ago. I cared for him alone. It was exhausting and I finally had to place him for what was supposed to be a two week stay, but he died there😞 I’m glad that I did what I could, but regret that I couldn’t do more. Take care.

Is this bar of soap work great on yellow stains on white button down shirts around the collars? I'm debating between this or OxiClean spray Gel Laundry Stain Remover in a 12oz bottle. Which works better if you know, thank you! I do plan on going to dry cleaners after I properly wash the shirt with either product.

My gram and mother both always used Fels Naptha -- I've been using it for years. Dawn does work well on grease/oil/salad dressing stains. Fels works well on dirt, formula, grass stains, etc.

Thank you for asking! I have never tried using it for that particular stain, but it certainly can't hurt to give a try. One bar of fels-naptha soap is only .97 cents at Walmart. I'd love to hear what the results are, if you do try it! 😉

Good for you! I refuse to own anything that is "color blocked" Got burned one time ages ago with a sweater that had the red run into the cream color and no amount of work corrected it. So sad. But lesson learned. As to Fels Naptha, we used that on underwear and Dawn for grease/oil based stains. I have some oxyclean, wonder how/if that would work in this situation, too (if applied strictly to the white/cream section)? It is tricky when bleaching agents cannot be applied to whole garment.

I hear you! Our Walmart usually keeps a pretty good stock, but lately it's hit or miss, and they have raised the price up considerably higher than it was. Our son recently found some at a local grocery store, and picked up 4 bars for me @ $1.49 ea. I was paying .97 at Walmart, (before they raised the price). I think it's going to continue to get harder and harder to find these types of items. If you finally find the egg....stock up! 🐰

My husband and I were recently discussing this. We are all working so hard to sustain ourselves on a budget, the best we can. Why do companies have to make it so hard for us? Not everyone can afford to buy high-priced laundry soap or wants to afford it. We want what is best for us and our families. If you can't find Fels-Naptha, Zote soap or castile soap are both great substitutes for making your own laundry soap. As far as being a stain remover, I can't say because I've never tried them for that. I do hope this helps.
