Carpenters or The Carpenters, Karen and Richard decided to perform as a duo not long after one of the bands, ‘Spectrum’ they were a part of along with other musicians from Long Beach State disbanded in 1968.
Three years earlier they had joined with Wesley Jacobs, in a ‘jazz’ orientated ‘Richard Carpenter Trio’, Wesley Jacobs left to study classical music.
A friend of Richards, Ed Sulzer had sent out recordings of the duo of which A&M owner Herb Alpert heard and found Karen's voice intriguing.
