Josephine Arthur's quest to move on from the Shure SM58, led me to try these mics through her AER Compact 60 and also my Bose L1 Compact. Thanks to Janet Penfold - who also tries some mics - for the use of her living room. A lengthy video with lots of chopping and changing but hopefully the 'chapters' will ease navigation.

Another great interesting video!! Imho songs that bring out the harsher areas of the female voice are challenging. Theres something sweet about the 104 plus in your video (we haven’t tried it yet but have tried the 105 & love it on ballads, on songs with belting not so much) we recently moved up to the bigger twin speaker AER Domino 2A ( tried the top of the range Domino 3 too) the 2A is sweet. The 3 seemed bright. On another note - we tried the Telefunken M81 on females and found it dull (M80 is apparently brighter, but haven’t tried It ) adding some EQ brightened up the M81, but not in a nice way, still sounded dull. Another mic we tried is the V7X, it’s smooth on females and takes high end EQ well on the 2A AER. we go to about 2 or 3 o’clock on treble ‘which is about 3dB at 10k hz’ but , it needs: 1) a foam filter & 2) the bass knob turned back to 9 or 10 o clock ‘which is only around -3db @ 100hz’ even after that it still sounds like a fuller mic on females than the V7. For belting the x seems sweeter too but with a full band the V7 cuts through better.

@@AntonBrowne i forgot to mention the AER Domino 2a has a ‘record out’ option which is handy , just a L&R RCA from the Amp direct into your camera via stereo jack ‘bypassing’ the speaker really shows the Quality in the Pre’s

@excellent: I'm researching Neumann because I've been with the M80 for several months and it's great for taming brassiness but takes away character. The M81 even more so. Realizing that the right mic should help the singer use better technique and freedom. Seems like the Neumanns do that with the first singer, esp the 104Plus.

Anton Lucas here! From The Patagonia Argentina, you have to use Switchcraft conectors on your cables! maybe that could bring you security and care on your microphone chassis/conector/pins, I love them haha! Love your videos too! I Seend U a big hug!

Nice comparison. For me the KMS105 was the best, followed by the KMS104Plus and the Sennheiser e965

I desperately need a comparison video of all these mics but also with shouting and screaming techniques, male and female vocalists, every technique from falsechord, gutturals, grunts, pig squeals and fry aswell as powerfry screams. ordering gear online is fine and all but you don't really know how a mic is gonna sound after having used it for a year or two and I always find it very hard to judge them based on the sound they give you straight out the box.

Very important: If you are singing in a loud Rock-Band, you should always use a dynamic microphone NOT a condenser mic (!) , otherwise you will push your voice to hard to get the compression for cutting through the Bandmix. A condenser is great in a quiet Jazz or unplugged setting.

I recently had to sell my 104+ , I'm still sad about it. It wasnt suited to my voice but it was for a few friends.

the bose has phantom power ?i want to buy kms 104 for a cube street ex...i must buy phantom power?

The Bose Compact doesn't have phantom power (or reverb etc.) I'm using a TC Helicon effects box that provides phantom power. The Cube Street doesn't have phantom power either, so the KMS won't work. You may be better off with something like an sE V7 dynamic microphone for that scenario, or you could buy a battery-powered phantom power supply to power the KMS.

Definitely Bose L1 Compact is a much better speaker, and no one should bother using a Shure SM57, its past its sell by date, durable but terrible sounding, in comparison to the other microphones
