How can government fund education when politicians are grossly overpaid. Nigeria is the only country where citizens do everything for themselves. We dig borehole to get water, generator for electricity, ma guard for security, pay school fees from primary school to university, and take care of medical bills. Politicians enjoy most of those things mentioned above free. That is the type of democracy we are practicing in Nigeria, the government of politicians by politicians, and for the politicians.
That's what you get when people mobilize themselves and fought their fellow citizens in order to enthrone insensitive leadership. This is just an introduction. Higher % of our university students may drop out of school very soon. Shame
You can't be socialist founded country before return to western style democracy and not commercialized education, it's a big shame this lessons and history not told in schools that's why democracy will keep Nigerians hostage.
Femi falana great a I always love his Interview we need people like him that really cares for Nigerians to help take Nigerians out of this Midnight scary dream of corruption That we cannot Wake up from But unfortunately people like him doesn't want government job or the government would not Approve of him.
Because Nigerian universities have refused to evolve. There are Nigerians spending millions of dollars doing online degrees right from Nigeria because our universities will not allow working class people get a masters without coming into the classroom where they can have the chance to bully and frustrate the hell out of you. They must evolve and find ways to finance the universities
Nigerian economy is being strangled by the exorbitant salaries of the senators and the members of House of Representatives. To be a politician is to serve your people and not a get rich venture. The politicians in Nigeria earn more money than their counterparts in developed countries. Lack of accountability allows frivolous and fraudulent spending which makes essential services like electricity, education, healthcare and so many social services suffer in a country that has so much resources.
After education it is duty of government to put in place policies that will attract investors and generate employment nit make policy together movement of people.
It's really sad how Nigeria has been monumentally destroyed by a few people in government across all levels, just for their personal benefits. Where is the implementation of education Tax on companies? Who did this to us in Nigeria that a person without a school certificate and NYSC can become a President? In this same country a graduate cannot get a good job without NYSC Certificate
We all agree that Nigeria has been managed by bad leaders but right now things have to change but that’s not the case. In a country without a productive economic system with huge debt, the worst thing to do is increasing salaries. That means you keep on financing deficit by more borrowing and expecting government to pay for everything is not feasible. President Buhari tried to do it in order to please people but he has discovered that he has pleased nobody. Liberal economic policies are good on paper and sound good but the problem is it cannot be implemented in a free society.
One problem we have in Nigeria is; it’s only those in other tribes, party and religion sees the problem. If he was in the corridors of power he will speak for…until we stand for the truth we keep fooling ourselves.
Unfortunately and funny too..DRM Abati, seems to me, to be using this same line of "foreign jurisdictions", as a learning curve.. and, don't see it as a "biased" basis, and please, it's just my personal opinion, and,I,stand to be corrected... otherwise, am, not in any way, a fan of sycophancy.. trust me.. it's a waiting game 🎯
TINUBU'S CERTIFICATE CARRYING DIFFERENT INFORMATION AND ADMISSION DOCUMENTS REMAINED IN CONTENTION AS CSU ASSERTED INABILITY TO CONFIRM THE RELATIVE CERTIFICATE
Of what use is the government of Nigeria either federal or state if they they cannot serve their citizens effectively. Nigerians are so used to doing things by themselves and not waiting on the government. Why then do we have government that cannot provide basic amenities for its citizens. We need a change of government and not the undemocratic form of government in Nigeria.
Please be bold the looters must return stolen money. Records are in EFCC. The international bank of settlements can tell us how much money looters have stached abroad. The loot of resources and funds continues till date.
Baba is intentionally avoiding to give a clear answer to questions relating to Tinubu issue of forgery, it is extremely difficult to defend a friend/buddy that has so much questionable characters.
A law in the USA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.
FERPA Also commonly know as the Buckley Amendment, become law in November 1974 to protect the privacy of personally identifiable information in a student’s education record. However, the courts have been clear that not every document that names or refers to a student is a FERPA record and have typically limited the reach of the statute in a common-sense way to records that have something to do with educational activity. Disclosure of the Education Record The law withholds federal funds from any school with “a policy or practice of permitting the release of education records” or of the “personally identifiable information” contained in those records, unless the adult student or parent has consented or another exception in the law applies. In other words, if a school has a policy or practice of improperly disclosing students’ education records (or not disclosing information it is required to disclose), it could potentially lose all federal funding. FERPA serves a two-fold purpose: (1) to grant parents (and students 18 or older) access to information in the student’s education record, and (2) to protect that information from disclosure to third parties without parental consent. It is crucial to note that FERPA only prevents the disclosure of education records. Nevertheless, schools and colleges persistently cite FERPA as a convenient all-purpose excuse to deny journalists’ requests for public records What is an education record? There are two essential criteria for a document to be considered part of an “education record” under FERPA: (1) the record must “directly relate” to a student, and (2) must be “maintained by an educational agency or institution or by a person acting for such agency or institution.”
Where you read parents replace it with adult in this case tinubu Commonly Asked Questions Q. Who (other than parents) must a school official allow to see an education record of a student? A. School officials are not required to allow anyone other than the parents to see the education records of a student; the exceptions allowing the release are circumstances stipulated by federal or state laws, such as government-required audits, evaluations, or court orders. See section 6D; also see a detailed discussion of the federal statutes in section 2B. Q. Which public officials have access to education records without consent of a parent? A. School officials with a “legitimate educational interest” in the information have access to education records without specific consent of parents or eligible students. Policies defining officials who may receive information without prior consent must be accessible to parents for review. FERPA also permits other disclosures of information from education records without consent, usually for educational purposes. For examples, schools may disclose information on students to state or local educational authorities for audit or evaluation of federal or state supported education programs, or for the enforcement of federal legal requirements relating to those programs (such as IDEA). This condition for disclosure without consent does not generally extend to other state agencies. Q. If a parent makes information about a student public, must school officials keep that piece of information confidential? A. Yes, school officials should not respond to information made public by a parent, such as to the media, without consent from the parent. See section 6C. Q. Must a school official release a student’s record to a family lawyer? A. A school official does not have to release a record of a student to his or her family lawyer, but may do so upon receipt of a prior written consent from the parent, unless the school is assured that the attorney is asking on behalf of the parent. See section 6D. Q. What penalties apply to the misuse or improper disclosure of confidential information? A. The penalty for noncompliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) can be withdrawal of U.S. Department of Education funds from the institution or agency that has violated the law. This applies to schools, school districts, and state education agencies. The Family Policy Compliance Office of the U.S. Department of Education, charged with reviewing and investigating complaints, seeks to promote voluntary compliance with the law. A third party who improperly discloses personally identifiable information from student records can be prohibited from receiving access to records at the education agency or institution for at least 5 years. State laws on privacy may also apply penalties. Q. What are the liabilities or penalties if an education agency or institution violates FERPA? A. An education agency or institution subject to FERPA may not have a policy or practice of disclosing education records, or nondirectory, personally identifiable information from education records, without the written consent of the parent or eligible student, except as allowed by law. If a complaint is received by the Department of Education alleging a violation of FERPA, the FPCO investigates the complaint to determine if a violation of FERPA occurred. If a school is found to be out of compliance with FERPA, the FPCO works to bring the school into voluntary compliance with the law. If voluntary compliance is not achieved, then a school would be in jeopardy of losing federal education dollars. There is no private cause of action (right to sue) under FERPA and, in 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Gonzaga University v. John Doe that students and parents may not sue for damages under 42 USC § 1983 to enforce provisions of FERPA. Q. What are the consequences of a third party’s misuse of education records? A. School officials must inform third parties receiving information, as allowed under FERPA, of the requirements concerning redisclosure of information. If a third party is found to have improperly redisclosed personally identifiable information from education records, the school may not allow that third party access to information for at least 5 years.
To me it is said that if you have no job to do , you will just be disturbing the peace of the nation or the peace of progress, what is the use of President Tinubu,s detail result for Atiku Abubaka, when if true his intrest to contest for presidency is about 🇳🇬 Nigeria,s progress not his personal selfish intrest. After he has lost the contest . He is so called elders state man what do we public derive from this drama rather than pray and join hands to move the country forward. Pls Baba Atike relax. All this are uncalled for.
Flanagan, God bless you, please educate Abatti, he was trying to cover up for tinunbu. Well he's working for his money. Look at what he invited you for instead of calling tinunbus lawyers to come and explain what he meant by the excuse he gave USA court, he called you. Can you see how stupid and nonsensical he could think. How did he become a Dr by the way?
Mr.Abatti which planet are you from? How many people in Nigeria are paid in dollars? Do you get paid in dollars sir? The average worker in Nigeria gets what, about 100,000.00 Naira or less a month and the average politician gets between 5-10 million Naira a month. So who’s deceiving whom. The cost of government in Nigeria is too high that’s why we can’t afford basic services.
How much does he pay for kid (Falz) both in primary, secondary and higher institution (all Private)? This is a man that spent millions for his child private educate and now playing to the gallery
Whats the big deal about Tinubu's school documents? Why is Tinubu fighting so hard to make hus educational documents private ahen hes a public citizen and for that matter the president of Nigeria? His educational documents should be made public. What is he hiding?
If you're not in the position to speak on any issue, then what the heck are you doing here. All these cowards playing it safe at the detriment of the country. If ypu create opportunities in Nigeria, people will not jakpa...I left Nigeria over 20 years ago, couldn't gr a job with a Masters in Environmental Science. Yet the US gave me the opportunity to excel beyond my dreams, now we cry that people overseas are bings btain-drained. Yet these people are the ones that help to survive their families in Nigeria...Nigerian Natural Resources hve been privatized to the benefit of a few. It's Nigerians in diaspora thr have provided most of the capital for the cyrrent individual developments in Nigeria. Shame of the ddses of Nigerian governments and all these sttesmen that standby for te country to rot in shame and embarrassment.
Abati o, Abati o, Abati o. You couldn't even hide ur intentions or body language in your questions about Tinubu & Atiku in the US. TVC looming for you.
prof should receive 2.5mil every month......if education is not given a priority how do u expect people not to engage in fraudulent schemes.....we are joking in this country
I do not agree to this analysis, most of them can live on that salary. Here in Europe, most workers pay monthly what you paid annually as a rent in Nigeria.
Employment after graduation is expected but when the government does not care about creating employment, what do you expect from the graduates to sit idle and do nothing. As a result of the government incompetence and lack of accountability, the graduates have no choice but to look elsewhere for gainful employment. It’s a shame.
Sometimes I wonder if we are ok in this country. So if the discovery in the Chicago university shows that Tinubu did infact commit perjury, we should then just go on with our lives because it is too late to admit the evidence in the supreme court. We are really not well in this country.
It is obvious from Reuben's body language and manner of asking questions on the issues raised in during this interview his positions. Unfortunately, his positions do not align with integrity, honesty and sympathy for the masses. What is the big deal in Tinubu allowing his so called alma mater making public is academic records.
Abati Reuben do you know the percentage of Nigerians leaving under the poverty? So must a poor man's son be uneducated? You sound more like an APC spokesman.
Haba! But you should know that sometimes journalists play the devil’s advocate. Abatti is a seasoned journalist and hasn’t done anything wrong in this interview
Me I can tell you categorically that anything released to Atiku will never be admitted in the Nigeria Supreme Court as the cabal has already made their ways.
That might be true but how would a first class result release cause irreparable damage to him...i hope the court gives the order to release it so all things can be in the open
Reuben Abati frames his question to influence public opinions and the thinking of the justices. We are educated. New and relevant evidence which was not available at the trial stage can be admitted by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Reuben Abati seems to be misleading and influencing public opinion in favor of Tinubu
Please 🙏🏿 STOP talking about Education… NIGERIANS NEED 24Hours/7days: Electricity ⚡️Trust me Nigerians wouldn’t Japa this will create Business. Nigerians are smart we can get education from RU-vid… provided we have Electricity ⚡️. Nigeria needs to focus on one thing, Nigerians are tired of mosquitoes 🦟 eating us at Night.
If nothing else, All Atiku wants represents public interest public good which is one the factors of Jurisprudence/advocacy, not necessarily for the corrupt Supreme Court(Judiciary) - Tinubu lied about his records; academic transcript will reveal who and what sex of student admitted and graduated. Tinubu was hired by Nigerians - they have right to know - if corrupt INEC/Judiciary failed, Nigeria can’t fail.
If Atiku was the best man to represent your interest, why didn't you vote for him in first place? I understand that Atiku is your friend, because he is enemy of your enemy (Tinunbu)
How many Nigerians interest Atiku represents when he was Nigeria vice president for 8 years? I think poverty, religion, and hatred have blocked some Nigerians' sense of reason. Atiku then sold all Nigeria investments to himself with his fake privatisation program
Unilag has gone commercial since early 2000 In 2015, we paid 750k for foundation students. My daughter got 280 in jamb but didn't get admission bcos we are from Edo state
Nigeria government has no reason not to provide free and good education to every citizen at all levels.I agreed with SAN Falana that the leakages are overwhelming and government lack of political will are the major obstacles.
Falana, answer the question please. Please stop dancing around the questions in respect to Tinubu forgery. Falana, you do this all the time when you are asked direct questions on Tinubu. You will soon lose your public appeal where you are seen as objective.
Abati is very partisan and not very serious. He thinks just like any of our non-productive politicians. He has a very soft spot for Tinubu or any government in power. He is well-read but isn't this proof that education does not cure a bad attitude.
No one has ever demanded past and current government of basic amenities.... Just funny what governance really meant in Nigeria. No tap water, no stable electricity, poor transportation system, bad air quality, low standard of education and healthcare services.. These are few immediate issues to be prioritised in every election
😂😂 I can't believe that there are people out here still pretending that Nigeria is a country. Trying apply jurisprudence and assign the attributes of a country to Nigeria. Nigeria is at best an aberration. We need to pretending that we can discuss the constitution and law in Nigeria in the same way that a German can discuss the German constitution and law in Germany.
Please Mr. Abatti, the way out of education funding is for Tinubu to give money to education and not to senator to buy furniture. And for the Senate president to send prayer to the University account so that those who are Nigeria of tomorrow may have education.
Tinubu is a public person. If he does not want his private life to be disclosed, he should resign with immediate effect. Tinube is a disgrace; you all are in the zoo and do not know what his forgery is; a man without a clean record is the president; you all should be ashamed of yourself. Nigeria is finished; how can the university increase fees while things are so difficult, with no increase in salary.
There's no where anyone earns what is commensurate to his input. Service to one's country should be seen as sacrifice and not necessarily business. Those who want to make money with their skills and talent should go into private enterprise, not public service. Emmanuel Atuchukwu
When it came to 25% Falana could preempt the justices of the PEPC, but in attempt to protect his tribal man, he does not want to preempt the Supreme court. His sentiments are clearly betrayed. When it was Goodluck Jonathan, himself and Wole Soyinka were very unequivocal, but it is obvious they cannot rise above tribal sentiments.
Is minimum wage the same? You can not compare the fake naira to Dollar. To stay with older people here is $30 per hour which is 29,100 Naira. At least that is the easy way you can get.
I swear… he couldn’t hide it. Femi Falana said labor employers by law are to pay 3% of their profit as education tax. Where is all that money going, that’s if it’s been paid.
U said it all, abati is also part of the people who failed this country during his time in goodluck govt, so don't blame the politician turn questionnaire
I believe Dr Abati is looking for job in this illegal government his current acts shows please he should stop pretending to be on the side of the masses he still remains part of them he has tasted the pudding and he wants More.
The discussion with MR Falana is healthy and aligned with what his is known for since his life unlike that of few days ago concerning Tinubu's certificate conundrum
Affordable education is not free education, yes govt should invest, but students need to pay to be educated, Nigerian students have one of the cheapest 1st degree education, also Falana seems happy to spend his money abroad to educate his kids, Nigerian Unis need to start commercializing their degree programs to foreign students to generate more income
Oh we really miss Gani Fawehinmi.. Falana is economical with the truth. This government can not think. Abbat is wicked. God will punish you for that wicked comment . How much did you pay in your own days? Wicked man
This is how Nigeria is where are today. No one is ready to hit the mail at the head. Why is Tinubu defending the release of his excellent details by the Chicago university . Falana and Soyinka are doing the job of face mending for Tinubu their brother
What do you understand by "discovery"legally?"Discovery"simply means where an Applicant files an Application for the court to compel a public officer who has the custody of a public document to allow the Applicant to inspect that document and get "certified true copy"for it to be tendered before the court. Tinubu is saying his academic Records at Chicago state University is not opened to others to get access to it without his written authority as provided under University Regulations.Atiku is saying he shall be given access to Tinubu's academic Records at Chicago state University for public interest. The question is does the Law of the united states provides exceptions to these Regulations when it comes to public interest? There is no such provision in the laws of the united states. That is why Tinubu is objecting to Atiku's Application for discovery. Another question is: assuming, not conceding, that Atiku's Application succeeds and he is able to get the CTC of Tinubu's academic Records from Chicago state University, can the supreme court allow it to be tendered and admitted within the exceptional Rule of Re-hearing of evidence at Appeal level? The CTC of Tinubu's academic Records from Chicago state University were not tendered and wrongly rejected by the presidential Election petition Tribunal as trial court; and as such it does not fall under exceptional Rule of Re-hearing. You understand?
@ibrahimmuhammad1569 The issue here if there's nothing hidden, why should a public office holder not want to make his record public. Secondly, assuming without conceding that the Supreme Court refuse to grant an exception to Atiku to submit any fresh evidence, what if there's something of public interest which any Nigerians with locus standi can pursue after PBAT tenure of office. What if also there's something that contradict PBAT current claim which can prevent him from contesting future elections. Finally, let's assume there's nothing in the discovery, will it not be in PBAT interest that after much noise, nothing is found against him. A clear conscience fear no accusations.
Dr. Abati, with much respect,on whose side, are you really at..one, minute it's praises for the students, the next minute, it's you laying the blames at the doors of the parents...are, you, in a way, "eyeing", an appointment in this government?.. please, tell Nigerians for, afterall, it's your fundamental right.. it's, high time, you take a stand.. remember, you, started your journey, from somewhere.. don't forget sir...
Reuben Abati is talking as if he will be fine with #500,000 a month salary in this current economy even with 35% increase. This is not even up to what I pay my Nanny that has only 1st degree certification. It's only in Nigeria can a politician like a Senator with secondary school certification or Ist degree earn salary of #15,000,000 monthly excluding all their numerous stupid allowances, while a University Professor with a PhD is left to survive on #500,000 monthly salary and someone is trying to justify the nonsense. What a nation!
Contracts should be on competitive basis . Was the contract on Lagos and Calabar coastal highway by competitive bidding? Given to Hitech owned by Chargoury. Are we serious?
Reuben Abati, you are a journalist not the government's spokesperson. Your duty is to to the Nigerian people not to play devil's advocate for an unpopular unresponsive government. Please have shame for once. 🤧
Please recoup stolen funds of over $800billion to revamp economy and develop agriculture, health care, infrastructure etc. We have to reform our macroeconomic framework to come out of the abyss. We are not bold enough to revamp the economy.
Falana gate Socialism now speaking for none commercialization of education. The current Democracy in will never liberate the country, let return power back to the traditional leadership before the country explore.
So senators are collecting up to #15m every month. What are they doing for Nigeria if I may ask? Reuben Abati should better leave journalism practice and enter politics.
What I don't understand is why can't students school fees be determined by banks statements, pay slips or tax receipts of parents. Every student gets a percentage discount on school fees based on parameters such as household spending, parent's earnings, number of siblings etc... this is done in a lot of countries. By doing this, the rich can pay full amount and education can be subsidized for the truly deserving. I believe this sounds better than the so called 'educational loan' policy. This school fees thing is not a difficult issue to solve.
Good San falana will never criticize is constituency (judges) inspite of continuous bad judgment but can easily see & condemn every act of irregularities in other sectors . But why ?
35% increase on salaries for Professors is too small at $500 per month, agreed but student fees must be kept at $25 for a year. But where do we get the funds to pay the cost of $2000 it costs every year to train each University student?
What do you expect when the president select by INEC whose O level can't be found is in position. He lied he attended CSU but provide result he's crying.
Don't take fanala serious. He has been fighting for the oppressors for ages. He was the one who fought for this same Tinubu against Fawehinmi on this certificate issue over 20yrs ago. He speaks with every sides of his mouth just like other Nigerian elites
Some of the students acted as APC thugs during the last election, collected monies to frustrate the will of the people and foster illegality on Nigerians. Now we all suffer.
CAN THEY TELL NIGERIANS IF THERE IS ANYTHING LEFT THAT HAS NOT DAMAGED ABOUT TINUBU ??? EVERYONE KNOWS THAT EVERYTHING ABOUT SO CALLED TINUBU HAS ALREADY DAMAGED . TINUBU HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER TO NIGERIANS NONSENSE
Leaders from local government to state and federal had failed the country and people are not blameless in this. When ethnic and religious including traditions determined who to vote for in elections people always get what they deserve
I used to respect this Femi Falana but from now on I will never do so again. If Tinubu is clean why not allow the school to release his academic records.
It’s my turn emilokan? It’s Nigeria’s turn to subject their president to public scrutiny, the only irreparable damage will be a revelation of a criminal pass: Bagman for a drug cartel and fraudulently using a degree that was not rightfully obtain. Nigeria deserves the leader that it gets, you elect leaders of questionable character then expect economic transformation is the height of stupidity and foolishness.
Ruben please Ias an individual can not afford the amount involved in instances, and so those that sent their children abroad for the of schooling are th e rich and not the poor
