Leave the tails & tie them off few turns each side round the tensioned wire,for when its a hot wire for better connection 🍻

I don't know why, but I had such a problem understanding this knot. I was out pulling out some wire today, and needed to join it. Pulled up this video, and the thumbnail made it clear to me. Many thanks!

You did a really good job with this video. It is very clear, the footage is well done, and you even took the time to color the wires to make it easy to see what is happening. Great job!

Thank you. Really helpful. Had to fix a couple of wires on a fence today, after not fencing fir a while. My figure 8 knot attempt did some knarly thing of its own, so here I am on RU-vid figuring out where I went wrong. Thanks again.

Just used this to repair my bayco horse fence, Had to cut the fence for the excavator access for a new water line and the gripples were nowhere to be found for the usual repair. Since i had no slack I simply cut both cut ends a few feet shorter and inserted a new short piece in between by putting the knot on both ends. Then tightened the entire length for a PERFECT very fast repair for a normally difficult wire to fix. Thanks Tim!

Thanks, a nice clear video from which I have learnt and put into practice. I liked that you coloured one of the wire ends which helped me. I am a bit brain dead when it comes to knots! I took the iPad into the paddock to the broken fence and stuck it on a log and put the video into practice!

Good video 👍 Nice and clear, how ever instead of cutting the wire there we then wrap and curl each loose end around the opposing side of wire 3 times before snapping it off! Looks tidier and ensures is never gonna come undone 🤙

Correct! I came across a lot of blood along a fence line once and found a dead sheep that had bled out. Looked like it caught itself on the tail of a figure 8 knot that had just been cut off. Unfortunately it found a major artery

thanks for this - so to be clear - not to use this with a strainer but splicing - -slack ends - then I strainer these joined lines at some other point - cinching figure 8 and trim as needed.....could we not also tie the strainer knot -or wrap the tag ends so that the otherwise trimmed figure end "perpendicularly" cut / trimmed lines can not pull or slip? thanks

I have heard that knots weaken the wire, and that it is better to use crimp sleeves. Is this correct?
@theauzziebushman7947

Gday Tim, rippin videos mate, just a quick question do you splice barbed wire when you need to join it and if so a video on your best methods would be bonza, keep up the good work cheers

Do these knots conduct electricity effectively? Any advice for affordable electric "gate" starts and stops?
@emilykeller2690
@emilykeller2690 5 лет назад
Tim Thompson alot of farmers just wrap wire around itself... is that conductive? I have been working on my fence for days and can't figure out why it has such a low current... I don't have enough slack for the knots I am using repurposed wire.... so I am looking at gripples or crimping sleeves... you only use one? The companies reccomend 2-3. I could buy a crimping tool but are they neccesary? I put them in the holes opposite and bent the wire back to themselves so they wouldn't slip out..
@Jacksonskipslegday
@Jacksonskipslegday 6 лет назад
Also what knott would you use if you dont have much wire to work with after straining the fence?
@Jacksonskipslegday
@Jacksonskipslegday 6 лет назад
Tim Thompson lets say you strain your two wires together, and you dont have enough length to tie the strainer knott. Is there a knott you could use that wouldn't use up much wire? When im out fencing I often find myself going through copious amounts of crimps due to this. Thanks for your help.
