I had a surf band back in the mid 60's. Our lead guitar had one these with a Gibson guitar. It had the true surf "reverb drenched" sound. You could kick it and the springs would crash as in "Wipeout" intro.
The main difference between the reissue and the original issue...the weight! The cabinet is heavy plywood, the old ones were pine...weighed about half what the newer one does.
Here's a tip. If your 63 Reissue Fender Tube Reverb Tank isn't sounding as good as it used to, check that the bracket which holds the pan in place when travelling is releasing properly. If it still touches the pan it cuts down the sound greatly, particularly with a MOD pan which seems to be a slightly different shape.
Late to the game ... mine showed up with an RCA 6K6 installed, and it sounds great. Not sure how a 6V6 would change the sound. I guess I should experiment, but I'm happy with what I have.
