the 68 1.has a nicer speaker , 2.more gain ,earlier breakup and more low mids on both channels 3.has a bassman channel that the 65 doesn't have, reverb and (ticking) tremolo on both channels which is great but it's the source of the hiss. the 68 sounds better at lower volumes and with thinner/brighter guitars like strats, sgs teles etc but can get muddy with a les paul, the hissing noise makes it unusable for recording the dr z attenuator solves it though the 65 1.has a more solid design with no flaws ,better for recording -no hiss! 2.is closer to a vintage amp 3.sounds better at higher volumes with thicker sounding guitars like a les paul 4.has more clean headroom, later breakup to conclude the 68 is better for bedroom use and jams, the 65 is better for recording and live use.
I used to have the '68 and loved it. I regret selling it. One cool thing you can do is use a stereo chorus pedal and run one side into the custom channel and the other into the vintage channel and blend channel volume to taste for a simulated stereo sound.
I ordered a 68 from Sweetwater the other day. The amp and I should arrive back home about the same time. Thanks for making me feel good about my purchase. 👍
@@MOAB-UT I have a mojo mojo pedal and a Ibanez ts9 dx that I used to use as a boost when I had the amp. My favorite way of running it though was plugging into input one of the custom channel and then running a jumper guitar cord from input two of the custom channel and to input one of the other channel. It sounded best that way being able to use both volumes. Wish I still had the amp but someone made me an offer for a PRS SE custom 22 and cash. I played through my Dsl40cr most of the time anyway.
@@gigmandrew8975 Very cool- thanks. Can you jump a 68 reissue the same way? So it blends both controls. Is the noise floor higher? I play very low volume- ringing ear stuff. Protect your ears! You don't want this.
Thanks for comparing video -The 65 DR has bright cap and 68 cdr does not which is why it sounds brighter ? the 65 deluxe is more blues and jazz imo the cdr is more rock and roll sound -The deluxe reverb tone master blonde has the Neo G12 Cream back speaker any thoughts on that?
Good stuff brother!! Appreciate the comparison. Would have been great if it was a bit more thorough and back to back for the listener and would love to have heard some drive through the 68 as well . Still enjoyed the vid and your bluesy phrasing. 😎🎸👍
ok 68 owners it's your lucky day! did you try to record the amp? don't you think your amp is a bit noisy? there are about 741 videos on youtube with techs trying to solve the problem in various ways but i have found a simple solution by mistake: ive plugged my old dr z brake lite attenuator took 2 db down and the hiss is gone even at volume 10! i can't solve the ticking tremolo though...enjoy!
I think one of the amp mechanics on YT a little while back suggested the 65s were a little better than the 68s if he were choosing. It's technical talk, but like you say they're both fine amps.
I’m a bit confused cause I see you changing controls on the 65 on the left but the mic is only on the amp on the right. I’m sure the mic will pickup the sound of the amp on the left but mic placement is a huge factor. Is there a hidden mic on the amp on the left I’m not seeing?
You must have missed the bit where I explain in detail that I’m using the neo creamback in the 68 (amp on the right) to test both amps so it’s a fair comparison of both amps thru the same speaker.
@@DogsharkGPS yes I did miss that part. I'm on the verge of buying one of the 68 custom deluxe so I was skipping ahead on parts of the video. Nice playing and helpful insight on the amp. Thanks
All of the Custom 68 I have tried were too noisy even with the volume at zero. They all do this.I did not buy it for that reason.Go see Psionic Audio on that subject. The engineer shows what to do to make it dead silent. Thanks for posting. Both amps sound good.
