Fender '65 Princeton Reverb "Surf Tone Green" FSR Combo Amplifier - 2172000122
Limited to 250 units for North America
The perfect combo of retro styling and modern scream! This Limited Edition Two-Tone FSR in Surf Green and Hot White harkens back to a 60s vibe while the warm midrange breakup of a Celestion Greenback G10 speaker adds a slightly more aggresive feel. It's the perfect amp for small gigs that need a little extra growl and punch.
The original was a historically significant amp used on countless hits over the years, and the reissue '65 Princeton Reverb is easily versatile enough to go from the living room to the recording studio to the small gig. It has the vintage vibe that Fender die-hards know and love, but the '65 Princeton Reverb isn't only for those who played them 30 or 40 years ago - it's for anybody who demands top-notch tube tone, naturally dynamic clean and overdriven tones, and unmistakable long-spring Fender reverb and tube vibrato.
Unique features to this amp include: Surf Green and Hot White vinyl covering, a 10" 8-ohm Celestion Greenback G10 speaker. The perfect speaker for punchy mids and classic British crunch. Also includes "Limited Edition" FSR badge.
Additional features include: Blackface Control Panel with Six Silver-Top Numbered Knobs, vintage-size jewel light, 6V6 tubes.

I have one of these - it's a great sounding amp...it's really about all I play anymore, whether at home or out (sometimes mic'd when out). The Greenback 10 speaker sounds great.

Kudos to the great right-hand photography throughout this video - hybrid picking, plucking, different pick angles, etc. That's why Mark is a special player, and this amp is terrific.

Let me tell you, no one will be disopointed with one of these amps, it sounds amazing, this is 10times better than any Hot Rod Deluxe tone, I own A vintage PR & DR, and the PR is sweeter from smaller places

I've always wanted a Princeton!!! Just so much money!! lol one day!! I use a fender hot rod deluxe to gig and record with, its just a wee bit to loud for recording though, so I've been on the search for a smaller 4-15 watt amp for recording and general practice. I'll probably end up getting the Princeton though, first played one at a jazz fest gig in Detroit! I was over joyed with the sounds that old guy put out!

It does break up around 4 on the volume. You might want to check out the Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Great sounding amp. Clapton actually used a Fender Blackface Champ in the Layla sessions. However, the Princeton Reverb was built with the same 5F1 specs circuit as the Champ. So the sound was very similar. Either way, they're both still great amps.

I will limit this to a discussion about the princeton reverb and the Deluxe reverb. I think the large cabinet for a 10 inch gives a full sound and even sound when played at medium levels. The Deluxe reverb cab is very shallow for a 1x12 cab and you get more open back bass cancelling. Some 12 inch speakers are rather midrangy, a C12K is less scooped that a C10R and hence the C10R will give a more even bassy sound with less mids. The cathodyne phase inverter tends to be warmer than the LTP.

This guy makes everything he touches sound amazing, I'm going to go cry in a corner for a little bit. Thinking about a Fender Deluxe Reverb, but I'm also interested in other similarly toneful/wattage powered amps. Any word on that new '68 custom deluxe reverb coming out this fall?

Quote: He describes his blackface Fender Vibro-Champ and Princeton Reverb amps as "...my Layla rig. Tom Dowd said (Eric) Clapton used those two models to do the Layla album - he [connected] one to the other, turned the volume all the way up, treble all the way up, and the bass all the way down; that's the 'Layla' tone."

You've got some real smooth and tasty moves Mark.Sounds to me you're more an innovator than a follower. Went unplugged years ago when I sold my early 70's tweed amp. Currently considering something for my Tele when I get it reassembled. Nice memories with the Princeton - probably be goin with the blue Junior lll though.

Is it cranked up here since it's breaking up? Considering a '65 princeton for it's light weight and sound, but wondering if it has the headroom to stay clean with an archtop in a small club gig situation. Lovely little amps though, and quite a lot easier to carry than an AC30.

Adam, we ask that question to ourselves everyday here at the store. Everyone has the Opportunity to make these product videos exactly how they want and post 'em on RU-vid, just like we do. But, ample opportunity, doesn't necessarily equate to ample ambition. Hence our current conversation. We will keep doing what we do and allow the haters to continue to hate! :-) Thanks for getting it Adam!! We appreciate it!
