Semi-hollow guitars are freaking amazing! I had a sweet Ibanez Artcore 335 style for a bit. I sold it due to some issues the prior owner ultimately was to blame for, but I definitely am looking at getting another ASAP. The new ones now come in Green Sparkle! Shweeeet! haha!

In 1974 I bought a new '74 Tele Thinline with the two Seth Lover humbucker pick-ups. Absolutely the worst guitar I ever owned. I couldn't turn the volume knob past 2 1/2 without the pups squealing/feeding back on my Bassman amp. Your new thinline sounds fantastic!😊👍

Nice. I was interested in a Thinline last year, after Paul Davids and Captain Anderton went through that ‘phase,’ but then I kinda lost that interest for various reasons. This is rekindling it. I would also build one-with a nitro MJT body and a 1950s Finishes neck…. Do you feel that it sounds ‘hollow?’ That’s the characteristic I am interested in-a woody, airy thing…. Something I didn’t feel my ES-335 had enough of. To justify this, I’d need it to have a significantly different character from my solid [Nash] tele.

All of this was done for a fraction of your cost. Including purchase price and add ons it probably came to 800$US ! I’m learning more and more these days that “player” guitars and partscasters are the way to go compared to new out of the box stuff. The older the parts the better in my opinion, they truly don’t make them like they used to, unless you pay a premium.

I recently bought one and like it a lot. Having more trouble getting good intonation with the top 2 strings than I do on another American Telecaster I have that also has 3 barrell saddles, and with a MIM with the block saddles, but I'm sure I'll dial it in good soon. If not, I'll go with block saddles because I really don't give a leap if it's like 60's vintage, which it isn't anyway if for no other reason than it has a 9.5 inch radius neck, which I prefer to 7.25.
@dustinglass

What's the neck on it like? The specs sound like it's pretty thin (I think I saw somewhere the neck depth is .830 at the 1st first fret and .910 12th fret, so even thinner than the American Pro neck).

I live in Turkey and whenever I see these videos and price tags of guitars I just think about how lucky you guys are to have an instrument for that price yeah maybe they are like half of the minimum wage for american made instruments over there but in Turkey we have 8000 Tl (Turkish Lira) for minimum wage and a mexico made fender is 25.000 Turkish Liras and it never goes down I remember last year Mexico made fenders were 8000 TL so think about the inflation over here and be some thankful for what you have of course it doesnt mean you are doing so well and you guys dont have any problems but just wanted to let you know worst places exist.

My first thinline was a MIM Fender Cabronita with Fender Fideltron Humbuckers. I was actually Shopping for my very firstus Telecaster which I knew was going to be a MIM. I had previously been in contact with a seller who had a 2008 MIM Tele with Dimarzio Pickups and Gotoh locking tuners. he was asking $300 even because the Midnight Wine finish had some chips in it which I thought gave ut character. He had a buyer lined up for pickup the following day but I told him if that fell thru to contct me. I told him I would buy it evenif I had already foound and bought another. I happened across the Cabronita two days later and made a deal with the seller. That night the first seller contacted me asking if I was still interested as his first buyer kept changing times and then said he had to wait to get funds. I told about the Cabronita and plans to pick up the next day and could he make arrangements for the next day as well since both locations were 50 miles from each other. He offered to meet me 20 miles closer. The next day I picked up 2 Teles on a 100 mile round trip for $825. A very good deal considering the thinline Cabronita easily goes for $700 minimum. I love it. About 3 months ago I saw a MIM "69 reissue Thinline listed for $400. It had been refinished in white. Originally was dark sunburst. The seller lived 6 miles down the road. I told him I wanted to look at it being it had been refinished. 30 minutes later I met him. It had been in a fight for sure but nothing major. The seller said he had too mant Teles and needed to thin his herd. I bought it. When I plugged it in, wow. I was impressed. The seller definitely knew how to set up a Tele. I like the thinlines now. A bit lighter on the shoulders too. I am a converted Thinman now.

@Sammywhat

I'm totally jealous!! How do they compare to a standard solid body tele? Please comment on the differences if you wouldn't mind.
@nikolaki
@nikolaki Год назад
@Sammywhat first reply removed probably due to links to Leftyguitarists subreddit. The 69 type is a Douglas Gravity NT. It is a weighty instrument. There is a chamber on the top half of the body. I do not think there are chambers on the bottom half. Mine has been modified considerably: 3 saddle bridge with compensated brass saddles, low output pickups, new wiring and set up with flatwounds. Acoustically bright. Plugged in, it has that tele twang, does jazz great especially with those flats - haven't replaced them yet though I did buy a set of thomastiks in anticipation - the old ones still sound great despite their age. It is a very clear (but not brittle) sounding instrument. I can get rock tones out of it. The other one is a Revelation RFT. It has P90s and a rosewood finger board. Not as bright acoustically. Weighty too. Installed Wilkinson tuners. Top half is chambered, I do not think the bottom half is. The factory supplied tuners are very poor ‐ swapped out immediately. The P90s sound fab. Very aggressive on a normal guitar amp input. Sound surprisingly bouncy on input 2 (lower impedance) of my Fender Champ 25. I think that is my favourite clean sound of all time. Yes, bouncy is the word - I'm a finger picker. So this is a rock/punk/indie monster but with the volume knobs turned down cleans up nicely. On a low impedance input it's quite polite. I may edit the post and add their weights when I get a chance to weigh them. How do they compare to full solid bodies? Pickups aside, they're quite similar to be honest. They are louder unplugged than a solid body but amplified I'd be hard pressed to tell a difference. I think they look great and it's a shame they're rare for lefties.
@Sammywhat
@Sammywhat Год назад
@@nikolaki Very kind of you, sir! I've always liked the Revelation models, by spec, but have never tried one. Thank you for the details. There is a company I see on eBay that deals mainly with lefty Teles, very pricy, but they are lovely looking specimens. Very nice, indeed. I especially like the reliced pick guard. For a Tele-twist, I’d like a Thinline with a P90 at the neck (like a Schecter PT Special) and the usual single-coil in the bridge. I can hear it already…although the voices in my head that keep saying “Freddie is the Devil, Freddie is the Devil” practically drown it out.

One much like yours (sorta standard Tele layout and pickups), one with TV Jones classics (cabronita thinline) and one with the new reissue genuine WRHBs (72 style thinline). Now that really is light! I like that. Beautiful ash grain. Was it my imagination or was that a bit of Badfinger you kicked off with? Sounded good, though I'm not sure I'd want to deal with the added tendency towards feedback. Beautiful looking and sounding guitar though.

Lovely guitar, sir. Did you find the weight and feel to be more comfortable, about the same, exceedingly divisive, flatteringly svelte, or just plain meh, compared to a solid tele?

I’m tempted to do a project like this. Are the necks fairly interchangeable? Of course confirm 3 vs 4 bolt. The location you ordered from is (Stratosphere)? And are they helpful with making sure you will get the correct neck for body? Thank you, this is new for me so don’t laugh if my questions sound dumb. Any other guitarist input is welcome too.
