Uhh the old electrolytics were larger and fender put a foam strip to hold the caps secure. Modern caps are smaller so tecks use a dab of silicone to affix the cap down. Relying on the leads and solder joint to hold the caps in place sitting upside down in a vibrating environment isn't great for longevity! But it wiil work,, but there is better practice! Those old elertolytics aren't holy grail!!! They are fifteen year operating life component that are coming up on 60 years old!!! Replace!!! Restuff if you must.

Thanks Russell. Rest assured, the underside of this amp's cover had fresh foam and all the caps are pressed down firmly.

Great to have new content from you guys...Thanks! Capacitor tube trick is also used by "Uncle Doug" although he makes wooden discs (painted black) to take up the space on both ends of the tubes.

Good to hear from you again. Both of those guitars sounded sweet through that amp!

Please don’t use masking tape on amplifiers. It dries out, leaves residue and will alter the color and finish of the metal in 10 years when one removes doghouse again.

Hi Huw - any chance you could post a link to the free backing track? Thanks!

Great sounding amp! I like your minimalist ( only if nessesary) approach to amp servicing. The only thing I may add, is the Sprague TVA series 16uf electrolytics tend to read higher than their stated 16uf value. I rarely find them under 20uf. They are also very expensive now. Tripled in cost. I’ve switched to F&T now. Great caps. Great work! Cheers.

Thanks Steve. I measured the ones I bought and they were all around 16uF - H

An excellent video again. It amazes me how well those old 50s & 60s capacitors can still be good. My 65 Vibro Champ is still running on all the original components but I have a set of replacements in stock just in case. I don't have your fancy meter to check them with but there are no visible blisters showing on the insulators. Would you recommend changing the filter caps anyway?

would have been nice to see what voltage was left in the caps before drawing Doh!!
