That guitar has always felt like home to me, and you can say I’m kind of a Fender Telecaster fanboy. That being said I’ve recently been trying other brands to help expand my horizons. I just purchased my very first PRS guitar. I’ve heard good things about the PRS SE Custom 24 series of guitars. When I saw the model in Bonnie Pink, it immediately caught my eye. This is an unboxing and first impressions of the PRS SE Custom 24 Flame Maple Veneer Top Bonnie Pink. I bought this guitar on Reverb.com from a shop located in Quebec, called Musique Gagné - Direct Music Sales. I like this channel because it is basically a normal guy, like the rest of us, and we are watching him collect guitars, build parts casters, and give us his unprofessional opinion. And that is why I keep tuning in.
@@MrSpeed-lt8gr Which color? I had the original green one and enjoyed the bite from the F Hole..similar to a fully chambered Gibson LP. It was just a bit too small for me.
I recently purchased a PRS SE24 and understand now why all the hype! When I plugged it in and began to play, the notes flew (fret board joke) from my fingers into air of frequencies. It gave me goosebumps! Craftsmanship, playability, quality all in a moderately priced instrument. I like! No, I ❤️!
You are gonna love that guitar man. I got my first PRS last week as well. And the nice thing about them is fender fans (like you) and Gibson fans (like me) get the best of both worlds.
Way to go Landon, great choice. Gorgeous guitar. I'm sure you will discover this hidden feature on the gigbag on your own, but just in case... there is an metal hook hidden on the back of the gigbag that allows you to conveniently hang it securely. Small little extras like that goes to show PRS really puts a lot of effort in the quality of their products. I love Fender and like you started with "trying" one PRS and now I own 5. :)
Unboxing videos are also popular because those of us who can't afford a new guitar right now get to vicarious enjoy your new guitar! That's a great guitar. I love the pink! I think you're really gonna grow to love that axe.
I have two of the least expensive guitars PRS make, the SE Standard 24 and the P20E Parlour guitar, and they've become my go-to guitars out of a collection of maybe 25-30 similarly priced guitars. I love the way both guitars are voiced, incredibly clear and articulate, respond brilliantly to dynamics and so easy to play. Congratulations on your purchase, that thing is a stunner !
I have 3 guitars on my rack that I will never sell unless it's to upgrade to a better guitar of the same type. They are my Mexican Standard Tele, my Player Series Strat, and my PRS Se Standard 24. The PRS is the cheapest of the three but has the highest build quality. Give it a few weeks and you will never want to part with yours. I must say though that your colour choice sucks the big one! 😂🎸. EDIT: don't be surprised if you get better results from your AC10 than the Princeton.
PRS took a while to grow on me, but the more I play them (S2 Custom 24 and 594 Thinline), the more I realize how fantastic they are, and the less I want to play anything else. If you're not careful, you'll not want to play anything else. I guess it's the guitar equivalent to being assimilated.
5 year Paul Reed Smith Core Custom 24 owner here. Can confirm - I rarely play my others now. It's simply too sweet to put down and versatile enough to pull off a quality facsimile of most guitars and tones. My LP and Strat became redundant.
Landon, congratulation on this beautiful guitar I know before you opened it you will love it a few months ago I pick up a PRS S2 standard dots antique white black pickguard made in the USA weight 6 LB 6 ozs play fantastic and easy to play
I wasn't a PRS fan, until someone pressed me to try a McCarty with dot markers and a mild top. Loved the wide/fat neck carve, the resonance, sweet harmonics, the smooth taper on the pots, etc. I had to sell it a couple of years ago, but the influence stuck with me- when I was ordering a neck for my thinline frankentele, I went for the same specs. Now the tele is the most comfortable guitar I own...
I bought a PRS SE custom 22 about a month ago. Absolutley floored with how much I loved it when I played it at the store. My Les Paul is getting jealous.
Fun fact for you and anyone not familiar with the nomenclature. PRS "SE" stands for Student Edition, they are made overseas with design, specs and parts from PRS and from 3rd Parties. Amazing guitars for the price point and I love my SE Custom over any other. The S2 Line is one up where everything is hand made at PRS in USA with certain design choices slimmed down to save on man hours. All the parts are the same in the S2 as the CORE line which is the expensive as hell, made by elves. $1100--->$2400--->$5600 sorta thing. Check out the S2 McCarty 594 and you'll never stop thinking about it. Anyway, congrats coming over to the PRS fam, you can never leave now, sorry.
That is Wicked Awesome Landon !! The Mahogany Back is Really Nice when the Light Hits it ... But I Absolutely Love that Pink Flame Maple Top !! She Won't be able to Resist Once You Sink the Pink in The Deep Dive.. She'll be Subscribed !!
Don’t lose that truss wrench-PRS has their own stuff. I had to find a guitar store that had an extra one lying around a couple weeks ago so I could adjust my SE. SEs are sick, one of the best in that price range.
I was also one of those players who never thought I'd buy a PRS but ended up changing my mind after playing a Santana model. Even though I've got big hands I still don't love their wider necks since I've spent nearly 40 years playing guitars with the same size neck (on a 6-string, anyway). I will say that PRS might have the best stock pickups of any guitar under $2,000. I usually end up eventually swapping them in all my guitars but I have two PRSs (that first Santana and an S2) and love them both. Super-nice guitar. Cheers everyone.
Congrats on the new guitar, hope you enjoy it! I collected a bunch of remakes of iconic guitars from the past, just to try and play everything. Eventually i bought a PRS too, S2 range, as my modern and versatile guitar. Never had any regrets. Looking forward to your review 🎸
Fantastic guitar and I didn’t realise PRS were doing a Custom 24 SE with rosewood. Pink looks great and is so tempting. I may have to sell one of my guitars to get one. Btw you said you were picky about the weight, what was the weight ? Cheers 👍
Seriously? So you used the words "pink", "tight" and "slippery" while describing the guitar. I'm supposed to ignore that? Oh, man. My smart*ss muscle has a cramp. ;-) Seriously, though, that color is actually really nice. It reminds me of Fender's "Fiesta Red" a bit but with a great maple top to show off. Very cool.
You know, my eyes may have been seared right out of my head by that fuschia guitar, but I still enjoyed your 1st impressions unboxing experience. Now, were re those eye drops? Kidding aside, I've always thought the birdinlays sholuld be oriented toward the head tock. Otherwise, Pinky Tuscadero looks spectacular. Jump that shark, Fon..., er, Landon!
Just bought a green one with 24-08 i think, cousin, hundred bucks more. I like it. Prs sold a lot of SE's this season. Light, easy to play, sounds great thru my Vibro Champ. Only downside is I'd prefer 2 volume and 2 tones, gets a lot more subtle sounds, but I've played it nonstop for a week and i like it. Even the bridge feels good resting hand on it, it's ergonomic for the picking hand. The tops are nicely carved.
Hey, I'm also a Fender guy who just bought a (used) PRS Custom 24 on Reverb, a first for me as well. The build quality is fantastic with one exception and others have commented on this elsewhere: the tuners are terrible. Since I got a good deal on a used one I won't mind replacing with some upgraded locking tuners, but if I spent the almost $900 for a new one I'd be kind of bummed about that.
Good timing, Landon! I've been thinking about picking up an SE standard 24. I've been wanting to upgrade from my bullet strat for a while now. Can't wait to see the full review. In Landon we trust 😄
I bought one of those about 2 years ago and loved the feel amd playability but I never liked the humbuckers. I sold it off and recently decided to try another one. They say the pickups are the same but this new one sounds better to me. The first one had a high end bite that was ear piercing. I love the new one. I think your gonna love the feel and sounds out of this also but in the end, your a Fender guy like me.
Nope. Both made in Indonesia at the Cort factory. I know what your talking about but mine were both Indonesian made. Quality was awesome but the pickups were different. I don’t care what they say. My ears are certain.
As a Fender player, PRS feels like everything has shifted to the right. The fret #5 feels like fret #7. and it's much easier to reach out for the higher fret because the neck gets thicker after fret 19 instead of 17.
My very first “nice” guitar was a PRS I got it at the behest of my guitar teacher. Easily the worst decisions ever made. The pickups were over engineered and screechingly trebly.PRS had to send the shop new tuners because it wouldn’t hold tune. The volume knob is directly in your strumming path so you would turn down the guitar on each strum. Sold it on Reverb, Got an AmProII Strat. Now my life is flowers, kittens, and sunshine.
I used to be an Epiphone, Squire, Jackson, ESP fan boy. Then I decided to try an SE Custom 24, and 245 in store. I now own an SE custom (22fret), SE 245, and Two SE custom 24’s. Have a SE 24-08 on preorder, when they come back in stock.
Congrats for you first PRS bro :) I need some help, I've an SE Santana singlecut trem, what i feel that it has an issue that im dealing with, it doesn't offer a coil split feature, & my style of playing deadly requires that. Living in Pakistan, i dont have much sources to immediately buy another PRS. either i've to wait for few months or might be a year. Is there any EQ pedal that could give me a singlecoil bright sound through my sntana SingleCut?, if you've any idea please suggest me. Thank you :)
hey there! I've never played with EQ pedals, but I seem to recall a pedal that can give you single coil tones. It was in a video on another channel, so I'm not sure what it was called. I would search RU-vid for 'single coil tone pedal'
I find here in Canada the PRS SE guitars hit that sweet spot of guitar/dollar. Every PRS SE I've played has been really well finished and played well, lots of versatility. I love the pink finish, it's spectacular. The only other brand I feel fits into the same quality range is Charvel and they had a price increase IIRC.
Sweet guitar! I love the pink. I'm partial to Gibson type guitars. I got a great deal on a demo PRS SE 245 from Sweetwater. That thing is beautiful. The build quality and QC is excellent. I prefer the Gibson PAF style pickups (Classic '57, '61 zebras, etc) over the PRS pickups, but I can see the PRS being someone's lifetime guitar. I really like it.
I have a 2013 model SE Custom 24 and love it. It is the only guitar I own that has never needed a set up of any kind. It came perfect from the factory. You won’t regret spending the money. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Landon, the PRS is cool, the colour is great. I bought my first PRS about the same time as you, i bought it from a free ads site. It's a Korean made SE, it plays great, looks the part but for some reason i had managed to convince myself that an Indonesian Cort made model would be the better instrument. So i bought an Indonesian one hoping the Guitar would be better but the difference is negligable. The quality on both Guitars is exemplary. I bought the Cort made one new. I like them both but the Strats where it's at for me. Now you've had it for a while what do you think?
I was (am) a Gibson fan boy. I just got my first PRS last night. An S2 McCarty 594. I'm not exaggerating when I say this guitar is changing my life. I'm in love with it. The SE are nice, but they're no where close to the American made PRS.
Glad you took the PRS Plunge! Pretty guitar, but not too pink, for a truly pink PRS check out "Grandma Hannon Pink", for a real in your face metallic pink. I have a Korean made 2008 PRS SE Singlecut 22 fret and it's built to last and smooth as butter to play. But I also have a Fender MIM cause as much as love my SE, PRS ain't Fender.
Great guitar you got there Landon (though the Charcoal Black model looks better IMHO!) and I would definitely choose it over a Les Paul (the headstock on the PRS isn't at an angle that badly affects tuning and is prone to breakage!)... 👍
I’ve been a Fender guitar guy my entire guitar playing life. I recently bought a PRS SE Custom 24, and I haven’t put it down since. It’s unbelievable, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I like it more than my Strat 🤷🏼♂️. With my last name being Fiore I’ll probably buy a Fiore model at some point, I just need about 3 years to save up enough money for one 😂
I bought the same guitar a week ago (different color), also on Reverb. After lowering the action a tad, I can’t put it down. Sounds amazing through my Hughes & Kettner DLX 40, even at low volumes. My first PRS after my band mate has been trying to get me to buy one for years. Plays like a much more expensive instrument. Birds haven’t bitten my fingers yet…
PRS? I’m guessing that your expectations will be met!!!👍. Good looking, good sounding guitar! And it might be closer to rose than pink, or at least a manly pink!😆
I was a fender fanboy till I got my PRS, then I got a second one. I been a PRS fanboy ever since. That being said I'm still a Fender Telecaster fan boy. Did any of that make sense? I dont know
Congratulations on your 1st PRS. Get the PRS locking tuners the are great. Hopefully one day they will come with the SE like Sterling guitars do. Enjoy your new PRS!!
Hello there, my heart is really conflicting right now, whether to get the new Yamaha PAC612 or these PRS SE custom 24 2021 model? What is the fret size of PRS SEs?? I want at least a medium jumbo fret just like my teles and strats
@@landonbailey Thank you so much for replying to my question Sir Landon!! Yes.. I can't find it anywhere either.. If I may ask, can you compare it to the squier affinity tele? I recently got an affinity tele after watching your review, and I really really like the feels on the neck! At least I want my next guitar to feel as good as my tele...
I really like your approach to checking out this guitar. I’ve never played a PRS that I didn’t like and they’re usually almost perfect right out of the box. Good stuff.
Ok, not sure I'll watch another video, where you could have included the 1st impressions better here (though I might) ; ) Anyone who told you, with a PRS, you won't go back to a Fender (or Gibson) is an idiot. I just got my 1st PRS yesterday. An SE24 Standard in Tobacco Burst. I love it! Absolutely so well made in Indonesia. It's the right everything, stays in tune, the works! To my point. My late 80's 54' MIJ Fender Strat, and my 71' Gibson Les Paul Custom are masterpiece instruments. I could include My Gretch Hollow body, my Martin's, Taylors.....you get the idea. They all give something back, like a good woman. Each make you play differently and play well. Because they allow you to reach new ground. I'm just glad my new PRS does just that as well. What I will add to sum up is, I've owned three other Fender Strats. 2 were duds, 2 were great. My Gibson irreplaceable, but I hear there's some crap coming out of the Gibson USA factory now. Too bad really. What PRS has done is bestow their trademark and reputation to Korean, and now Indonesia to produce "their" product (with signature label). It also goes through "their" Maryland factory along with their USA models. That's a consistent company committed to excellence. That's the difference. Still, a good guitar of any brand is a good guitar. You just have to find them! Hopefully they aren't PINK!!!!!! : )
PRS are great. As a Tele/Pickup Truck guy, the birds inlays are a bit too pretty for me…but, I’ve also had too many people come up to me in stores to pay me a compliment when I play that Faded Blue Custom 24 SE. Maybe that’s a sign. 🤔
I’ve had one in my basket for two days. From Calgary. Same colour. Same price. The only PRS I have now is a Tremonti. I don’t love it. I know I’ll love this. I think I’ll drink myself into buying it tonight. Gawd that will make 5 K I spent in the last two weeks on gear I don’t need ha ha
@@landonbailey I don’t know if I ever told you this but I got it. I’m not in love with it but it’s ok. I also bought a Tonemaster ( I’m not sure what I told you and what I didn’t) but I finally got a VOX last night! 4c1 Stack. Honestly I wish I hadda waited and got a 10 or 15. The 4 looks nice. Really nice actually, but this is the first time I ever really REALLY understood what the mean by “ low headroom”. It breaks up way too quick for me. Will changing the tubes maybe help that?
Got mine a few weeks ago....used, lefty, via Reverb. NICE. Not Gibson or USA-Fender nice...but a quality guitar. Thinking about replacing pups with SD's JB's...for more power/clarity. Very easy to play...reminds me of my SG in terms of playability. Love the thin neck...my thumb is particularly happy about that.
On the contrary, I tried some Fender guitars last weekend. I'm not a Fender guy at all, I don't often hear good things about them anymore (especially the eastern made guitars) but I'll admit I'm a bit of a contrarian so I had to give them a shot. I wasn't super impressed so far, but also not disappointed. I feel like I need to get my hands on the Lead 3. That one looks like it'll float my boat, and hopefully have decent quality craftsmanship. PRS is definitely top tier though, love their guitars at all price ranges.
How I loved it !! I am interested in acquiring one of this, now a consultation with fans of fender PRS custom 24 SE or Fender Player Mexico plus ?? What question have I been able to answer? haha Salu2 from Uruguay
I have the 35th anniversary SE. Nicely made, great looking but not a top 3 guitar. Kept it because it is my only 24 fret (all reachable), has two coil split switches, looks great and like almost every other PRS owner I can put in ThroBak pickups to improve the tone.
Just bought this pink baby as my first PRS guitar... Then searching videos about it on RU-vid... Then found your video, and realized I bought it from the same store lol
