We have restored a '78 Fender Jazz Bass.
This is a rare vintage item. Thank you very much for your request.

3M is a good choice for masking tape. 6mm is recommended for the high fret of the guitar.

Dremel 4000 Leuter. The torque is amazing, but it's hot! I can do a lot of different things, preferably 4,000.

Body polish compound 3M, this is enough for a guitar.

It's good to have a lot of them, orange English oil (for fingerboard)

So many players fail to realize that I’d say a good 80% of all problems can be cured by a real good setup. I’d say, knowing how setup and intonate your own instrument is a really valuable skill, especially after you’ve been playing long enough to understand what exactly you like and don’t like, as everyone’s preferences are different.

15:15 ...this bridge is definitely an aftermarket, 3rd-party replacement, and not your stock 70s Fender part (brass sadles, hex screws, dark springs & intonation screws). Same with the brass nut. Otherwise a great job, and I love your attention to detail. A true labor of love! Thanks for sharin'...

Nice restoration job,quite clean. To my opinion,a lot of people,who want to buy such an instrument,in restored condition,start doubting its originality .They expect worn and a kind of fly rusty conditions to such aged basses. I had a 1978 Fender Jazzbas de Luxe, original and in pretty good condition, especially the neck,which was stamped by its builder "R.Friend".So i'm curious who stamped this neck,which isn't shown in this video.

Nice work. I noticed 4 holes on neck/bridge connection, why is so? Micro neck joint usually have 3 holes. Seems like someone exeperimented with putting precision neck on jazz body, or something...? Keep good work.
@Andybassguitar

This is the part I wondered about too. I'm not familiar with vintage fenders, so I don't know, but I'm wondering if this was a body that was made before the micro-tilt was born? I thought to myself.
@texasviking1
@texasviking1 2 года назад
Most likely the regular 4 hole plate was put on because they’re more stable. Often the neck may sway one way or the other because in reality there’s only two screws holding the neck in place on the three hole versions. The four screw version holds the neck nice and solid.

Pretty sure it wouldn't be devalued unless he refinished it or replaced the hardware, which is why he went to the measure of cleaning each individual screw. This was basically a clean and set up.

I have a '65 Jazz bass, LP Blue (looks green) on the body & headstock. It has corrosion on pretty much every part. The metal piece that holds the knobs has cracks in the plating and the bridge is downright rusty. But I wouldn't want to touch any of the metal parts.

Pat, I have 79 P bass that I bought new in 1980, and i put on a Badass bridge on with EMG P/J pickups and I don't regret it because it sounds killer and was and still is a working bass. If I had the same bass now in original condition I wouldn't touch for resale value.

Sorry to ask, is that the way to remove sharp edges on frets on a binded neck? No protection with tape or anything??
@Chiro75
@Chiro75 4 года назад
Looks like the file has a safe edge, but I’d still use tape or a fret protector just in case
@AlbertoJorgeSoares
@AlbertoJorgeSoares 4 года назад
I think he should have protected the edge of the fingerboard with tape, it doesn't matter if the file is smooth on its edges or not.

@Andybassguitar
@Andybassguitar 4 года назад
I think it's best to use a file to sharpen it. If you put tape on the fingerboard to protect the fretboard, the thickness of the tape will not chip the frets. It is not protected by tape, such as I would recommend that you use tape for protection.

One of the holes, the hole next to the middle hole on the plate, is where you stick the allen key to adjust the neck tilt on 3-bolt necks. You slightly loosen the center neck bolt and *barely* loosen the corner neck bolts, stick in the allen key, and twist. At :51 you can see the word "adjust" stamped into the perimeter of the neck plate. Better pix: www.amplifiedparts.com/products/neck-plate-fender-chrome-3-bolt-70s-f-style
