This was a really great idea unfortunately for me this broke 70% of the plastic clips that connects my finder ... 2019 Rubicon .... Wish I would have gone from the top
Yeah thanks to your brilliant advice I immediately broke the bottom most clips on my fender and now is flapping in the breeze. Yes they CAN break. You have to give them a little tug here don’t worry they don’t break my arse. Brand new 2024 too. Proceed with caution, folks.
Actually the EASIEST way to remove a fender flare is to be real close to a big oak tree while driving over and slipping off of a log on the ground. I discovered this method with my 2005 LJ. That oak took it off in seconds. May not be the PREFERRED method, but it works really well. 😂 Good job as usual
Hey Brandon! Thanks for this video since I'm headed out right now to replace some of the broken clips that a tree stump, hidden under muddy water, decided to tear off from my JT! I actually stopped at the dealership and was able to purchase the white clips and the plastic rivots since I was ready to remove the liner until I watched your video! 😛
You just saved me so much headache it's the only spot I know of where you can run wires into the cabin from the engine bay and I wasn't about to buy a rivet gun and spare rivets!!
Hey Brandon. Nice video. I used it to remove the front driver fender and install my arb single cilinder compressor. However I did break a few retainer clips. Good news is that I found them online for $0.63 a piece + shipping 👍🏻
Brandon good tip, glad all of that assembly can comes off relatively easy, will come in handy if I decide to add the Jeep factory hitch wiring harness. I like the Cat/O2 access when it comes time for replacement as well.
Thanks for this video. Just used your method, and only broke 7 of the 11 clips in my 2021, and one that survived broke the plastic on the fender. I guess Jeep decided they were too strong in 2018 and made them weaker in the 2021?
Thanks for posting this! I am trying to figure out what method I want to use to do my battery, and was leaning this way til I heard you broke the FENDER plastic.....suddenly going in from the top is looking better. WHY THE HELL did they have to overcomplicate what USED to be a simple 10 minute process under the hoo of the vehicle?? Not to mention the added expense of the second battery. JUST MORE TO GO WRONG!
Looking at the design of the white clips in question, I do not see how they could NOT break when trying to pull them out. They are designed to pop IN and the expand on the back. Pulling OUT will most likely sheer the little arms . Seems like they would need to be accessed from the back , which means pulling the liner first if you want to salvage the clips.
Thanks for this video, I ordered a set of Diode Dynamic Elite Max headlights that need to connect into that turn signal connector and I couldn't find it for the life of me, their install video made it look simple, nope that's tucked all the way in there you can see it at all. Ordered a bunch of these clips off ebay for $.79 each.
I am struggling with this exact situation right now. Was researching ways to get to the wiring when I found your comment. Let me know if you have any more helpful tips!
I didn’t get the LED package with our JL. But in the future, we would like to upgrade the turn signal to them. I know right now everything is back ordered.
Ya, whats the story on that. Thing sounds like a Jet Engine. Obviously is for cooling purposes, but are there any aftermarket that are quieter but still provide the required air flow?
It's because JK had rampant complaints of overheating, so on the JL they cured the problem. I LOVE it personally. Temp. stays in check even with the heat index over 100 degrees outside, and the HVAC works WAY better than JK.
Hey Brandon. Do the flares go back on the way the came off? My rear fender separated a bit from the body and I am having a hard time pushing the flare back on with enough force. I am thinking I may have to remove the inner fender to gain access to where the flare actually attaches to the body because as it is now the plastic just bends at the clip points and the clips just don't go back into the holes, I think they will need to be pushed in from underneath and the inner fender is blocking access. Great videos as always my friend!
What is the wiring harness called on the back inner side of the liner. On the driver side I had a wire slip out and there goes my ABS ESC and 4x4 Disabled. The pin connector is done for just trying to find the harness part number No. no luck so far
Can you get to the main wiring harness grommet doing this? There is a little nipple on top of it you can cut open to pass wires through. Curious if there is enough access. I'd rather not pull batteries and PDC to get to it.
Brandon, I have an unrelated question. I'm removing the black wire cover piece that runs along the floor on the front passenger side of my 2018 JL Wrangler. To do this I have to remove the top portion of the door wiring harness connector off the panel under the dashboard. After I release the bottom portion of the wiring harness (with the lever pulled up), is the top piece removed by pulling it straight out?
Hi Brandon, there is question over on the JLWranglerforums.com about replacing the aux battery from below as I asked you about before. Can you shed some more light on this offline for me perhaps? THANK YOU!
JeepInformant it looks like you can get the clips from Amazon. www.amazon.com/GOOACC-036372-Rocker-Moulding-Clip/dp/B008FUAUI4. In other research I found that the clips work JK and JL.
Great info Brandon. I would have never thought that removing the whole fender would be easier than just pulling the liner. It looked like the aux battery box bolts in the bottom. Can it be removed from the bottom as well?
So you have to remove the entire fender and fender liner just to remove the battery? What a braindead design... :( If you are going to put two batteries in the vehicle, make them the same size and design them as fully redundant systems.
@@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire AMEN! They took what used to be (FOR DECADES) an easy 10 minute process and made it COMPLICATED and more expensive....way to go!
@@davepersonal9082 -- Yeah, the damn kiddie engineers really screwed some things up with the JL... Choosing to have the auto-stop-start (ASS) system and the "mild hybrid" made them have to make other changes in the design which complicated it and made things that used to work no longer work. My JL is a 2018 model, so I *could* have still special ordered a JK just like the JL that I special ordered. Unfortunately, I didn't... Looking back, I definitely wish that I knew then what I knew now, because I would have avoided the JL. What irritates me the most is the electro-hydraulic power steering pump since it does not have the pressure and flow rate to run my hydraulic winch.
Hey! Can you by chance get to the top of the first of 3 body side bolts? I was installing rock sliders and the bolt broke when I was trying to remove it. It was covered in red loctite. I lifted the Jeep to remove the bushing and tried to tap and dye the remaining bolt=unsuccessful. I need to get to the top of the body frame. I can see it. Do you know if it is accessible without the fender flare on? Or do I have to removed the entire front quarter panel. Thank you for your help!
Thanks for the video.. Is the fender the same on the sport and rubicon models (since the Rubicon’s fender flare sits higher)? Just curious if it’s just a combination of a different flare and brackets or a whole different enchilada..
Any chance you might know the part number on those fender rivets that you said cost a lot that you did not want to drill out. I need to change my inner fender liner.
@jeepinformant Thanks for the video. Probably a stupid question but how do you reinstall the fender? Is it just a matter of applying the correct amount of pressure to the outside of the fender where the clips attach to the body?
I'm having the same issue. Fender pulled away in a car wash and I'm having a bit of a hard time pushing the fender enough to re-attach the clips into the body. Thinking I may have to remove the inner fender to be able to re-attach the fender.
