Just ordered one. By the way, nothing killed hair metal! Its just a beautiful looking relic strat! I have owned 2 expensive Custom Shop strats. For their price, way too expensive! This Mike Mc something- i really cant keep his name in mind !- guitar is a relic, that looks authentic and is compared to the Custom Shop crap, mentioned before, much easier to justify the money! I really dont expect it to be perfect. But I can imagine to upgrade it, by spending attention to rolled fingerboard edges, polishing frets and make the relic a bit more realistic. No " master builder"- what ever this should be😂, easily!

I'm reading your comment looking at my beautiful 60's CS and I nod my head in approval. I also had a Paul Waller masterbuilt tele, so I got to know how the best of the best look and feel. To be completely honest, there is literally no reason for those prices. The guitars weren't in any way better than a high-end American/Japanese series instrument. You pay 4 figures extra only for the uniqueness of it and the relic job. Tbh my ebmm Luke III is the best guitar I've ever owned (still very expensive). I've accepted a deal, not yet completed, to swap my CS for a regular mij Kotzen + some extra bucks. I'm like a child on Christmas day for it to arrive. No regrets giving away my CS.

Im 51. Sortof similar story but i didnt much get into hair makeup bands. I remember saying "They're posers duuuuude!!". Hahahahah. I went from Def leopard , Vanhalen to Iron Maiden , Rush , primus soon after and Dream theater.... I was a drummer most my childhood and adult life up to 05. Sadly and i miss it bad. But since getting into guitar my favorite that i think started it all another brick in the 🧱 I was 7 i think and i was sold on music period. Hahah. I adore pink floyd to this day.

I'd say GnR and Metallica had more to do with killing hair metal than grunge did. Grunge just filled the void. I'm a PJ fan but after their 2nd album they lost the groove a bit. I think Eddie wanted to be Neil Young. Mike is a great guitarist though. Funny but listening to PJ got me into Hendrix, Led Zep and Pink Floyd.

Lol i personally couldn't stand GRUNGE when it first became mainstream... I like you loved all the hair metal bands... But now i have to say i do like Pearl Jam... And most other grunge bands from that era... Except still have hard feelings towards Nirvana for some reason i just feel like they were the ones holding the knife that slit hair metal's throat... But like you said it was absolutely going to happen at some point anyway... I do love this guitar, and i think the MIM just makes it more awesome... That was kind of the point for most grunge bands then from what i understand, it was stripped down with no makeup, no flash, and the i dont care attitude. And even though they tried to deny it as much as possible they were most definitely mainstream... So a MIM Strat that can compete with a lot of Custom Shop guitars as far as looks but at a much lower price. Kinda fits the whole grunge attitude... Pretty cool i must say.

I don't care how much money I make, when I get to the point where I'm smashing my guitar into my pedalboard or amps it's time for me to stop playing. Those guitars could be donated to school music programs where kids who can't even afford made in Mexico Fenders would love to spend hours learning to love music. Just my two cents. Looks cool but 1900 for a MIM version?! I’d rather pay 2300-2500 for a USA made one. And I was in college when hair metal ruled - I actually kinda hated it. Too glammy (in terms of metal, I preferred stuff, like Sabbath and early Van Halen) for my taste. Hearing Alive by PJ was a breath of fresh air to this old classic rock/blues guy.

Rich, I am totally with you there, brother! I was SO digging the guitar tones and songs of the 80's. When Grunge came along, it did nothing for me. Plodding songs, lyrics were really dark, a lot of songs didn't have solos or vibrato on single notes, probably because they couldn't play it. That Strat looked cool and sounded cool, but almost 2k for a mim is too much and for that reason, I'm out. (read that in your favorite Shark Tank person voice) On another note, your hair looks great (I'm jelly) Keep it rockin! Maybe go back and play that Strat again except this time, smash it into the Yamaha deskop amp :)

Couple thoughts. I'm about 10 years older than you are and only got into those bands when my teenagers got into them. They grew up on led Zeppelin, Rush, Kansas, etc but started listening to Linkin Park, STP, Nirvana, and of course Pearl jam. I really loved Mike's use of the strat in a drew me in. I really have a hard time with relics that aren't created by me. I know they're supposed to feel amazing and I should have more of an open mind but it just seems super fake to me. I'm happy to learn that you had a little time on your p days to play, even if it was country. I didn't have that luxury.😂

I remember when "grunge" came and killed hair metal and was happy for it. The guitar the copies are based on wasn't purchased by McCready until AFTER the first Pearl Jam album, as he bought it with some of his "Ten" money. It seems like a nice guitar but way overpriced for a MIM. You're paying for the relic work and signature. I think that added $900 to it. I would rather spend a few hundred less and get a sunburst American-made strat with a rosewood board.

Rich its cool watchin another musicians channel whos my age 😛. Ratt & Dokken were like My Favorite bands lol. (NOT Firehouse though) i couldn’t warm up to man in the box video , they looked like Homeless crackheads 😂. Glam had gotten STUPID by 1991- Motley and GnR had backup singers and 20 min Piano concertos- Cinderella had turned into the Stones and it all got boring. So once “DIRT” and Ten came out I hopped aboard! They dressed like us the fans and it had alot of Zep and Sabbath… so AIC, PJ & SG clicked! What amazing music! This guitar is only worth it for the simp PJ fans that still convince themselves that the band is still relevant. Otherwise, a 60's Road Worn Strat will get you the same thing for much less. The Cobain Road Worn Jag from 2011-2013 relic job blows this one out of the water as far as accuracy and detail. That guitar is essentially a Custom Shop from Mexico. The McCready can't hold a candle to that guitar, but they also couldn't be too good on this general release version, because some dummies paid $10k for the 60 piece Custom Shop version that now resells for $22-25k.
