This set up of Jonathan's MIM Fender Player Tele gives a good example of how a low group of frets on a neck causes bends on the high E to choke out and how precision fret levelling can free up those chokes in real time. Overall the MIM Player Tele is a decent guitar but, like other MIM Fenders, it suffers from their habit of fitting the frets first and then spraying clear poly finish over the top. This creates a thick carpet of finish which is immediately broken either by sanding / buffing at the factory or by the owner when he/she starts playing the guitar. That's not idea and it can look pretty messy - but it's even worse when the time comes to re-fret... this carpet of finish, already broken up into fret-spaced pieces comes apart further when the frets are pulled and requires the fingerboard to be re-finished (the correct way!) before fitting the new frets. All to save a few bucks in time and labour at the factory.
I note also that on this Tele the bridge fixing screws sit very close to the saddle grub screws... it happens that on this guitar neither actually collided with the other but it certainly has done on other such guitars I've worked on. Just not a good placement; not well thought out.

Thank you so much for the videos, I really appreciate them! You’re very generous with your knowledge and I’ve learned so much from watching you. It even inspired me to set up my own workbench in my basement for my axes. Plus you have a nice relaxing manner with how you work. If I feel like chilling with a few brews late on a Friday night, sometimes Ill throw one of your videos on if you’re working on an axe I dig and it feels a bit like I’m hanging out with an acquaintance in his shed. Very sorry to hear about the site owner. May he rest in peace.

Thanks Dave, despite making videos 'on purpose' it's still unsettling / amazing in equal measures that anyone other than the owner of the guitar I'm working on would watch them :D I'm very grateful for your kind words!

I've been called many things before... but 'stable' isn't usually one of them. But I take it as a high honour, so thank you :)

Wish more people over here had your perspectives, Sam. Hoping you get a fair shake at keeping your place with the new owners. "Thoughts and prayers!" 😂

Thanks Bert, I hope all's well in the BB house! BTW I just saw your gas mileage driving video and realised that after talking to you electronically I'd never seen you 'in person' until just now. Your screen energy matches the generous guy who helped me so much with video uploads... but I'm not surprised :)

Hello Sam. I always enjoy watching your video's from start to finish, and have learned a great deal about how to use the "banana" to level frets, file nut slots, install your custom adjustable nuts, setup a floating tremolo, by using the Galeazzo Frudua Method ( modified), how to achieve the lowest action, and such . I find your videos calming and insightful . Don't change a thing. If there was one other lesson I would like you to include during a adjustable custom nut segment would be on how you manually modify the Tusq bubble packed nut before you install it into the 3d printed base. Keep up the good work. PS check into the viability of getting your wife into clinical trials for AOH 1996 by Dr Linda Malikas. in NY USA Pill form cancer cure .

Hi Rick - good to hear from you & thanks for your kind words. I'll be 61 next month so I'm unlikely to change radically from now on :D Next time I fit an adjustable nut & base I'll try to include the stuff that I usually do off-camera... it's not a secrecy thing; it's usually 'what can I get prepared while my iPhone is topping up to 100% charged?' :D

Sounds good. I'm turning 66 this year, and still learning. I have a Korean Epiphone lefty I want to install an adjustable nut on, and I would like to see how you cut back a graphtech Tusq LH nut to make it fit the 3d printed base. So many interests since retiring last year. Now considering ordering a Genmitsu 3020 Pro max to add to my garage/shop for CNC routing.

I got one of these new other day. Dropped it down to 1.5mm to about 1.4mm E to E without any dodgy fretting out which is cool straight from factory. I have lacquered frets too haha . I'm assuming this will polish off?

The 'over-sprayed' poly might come off; either in flakes in its own time or if you do a more rigorous / deliberate sanding & polishing as I do on each set up.

Is it fear to not want to take another man's life? Even in a 'it's him or me' situation. I don't think I have that in me. That's why I think I'd be useless in a war, even being raised with video games and other media like films and TV, I always found it strangely bizarre that groups of men would line up in bunkers, or behind some kind of cover and take shots at each other, best aim wins and one of you dies. Sorry for the rambling comment but your thoughts in this video got me thinking. I'd always look for some kind of alternative to keep myself and my loved ones safe.

I understand you - that's how I've been all my life. I think it's only that on another level that I wonder if there's a point where you can get sick and tired of being afraid... As I watch Russia roll Westwards (and I know, all kinds of people will say 'but they don't want to expand or take over any territory' despite them repeatedly doing so and saying so) I wonder if life is really as simple as staying out of harm's way... until you can't; until someone else decides they're nuking or invading you today. I don't know the answer - and I do know that in 15 years (even IF f I'm lucky) I will probably not even be around to worry about it. Maybe from that perspective NOTHING is worth dying for since - as they say - 'all things must pass'. Soon these terrible fears will be forgotten - just as all the great dynasties and kingdoms of the past rose up, grew to believe in their importance and permanence..and then crumbled away to nothing.

You may have already discovered this Sam, but Zweig died, along with his wife, in 1942. They had overdosed on barbiturates.
