Hands down the best review you could ever watch on this guitar. I have exactly the same one and have been using it for the past year. It has to be the most versatile and yet underrated guitar there has ever been. There is an a screw to tighten on the tremolo to stop the trem arm falling out and it is possible to get them to stay in tune by adjusting the spring tension. Great review thanks.

@Phil Dale Thanks for comment that's much appreciated... and we have found that screw so thanks to you we may not lose the tremolo arm after all! - will pin this comment so that others can also benefit. Cheers!

Extremely great guitar for the price. Excellent tones. Can get that crisp glassy tone, out of phase quacky tone, and also that smoother smokey tone. Takes distortion(especially on the bridge pick up) surprisingly well too. I just recommend turning the tone down a tad. Recommend using the tremelo bar just for "slight tremolo". HIGHLY recommend using 10 or 11 gauge strings. Preferably 11s but 10 is fine.

Great review! Just to show how flexible the Mustang is, another player was John McLaughlin (later of the Mahavishnu Orchestra) who played one on the classic Miles Davis albums around '69-'71 so that includes Bitches Brew, Live Evil, On The Corner and, best of all for guitar, Tribute to Jack Johnson. (I'd always assumed it was some kind of Gibson as he used a Les Paul and the SG Doubleneck with Mahavishnu but I was, as usual, wrong.)

Todd Rundgren was very keen on these for a while. In my early days of electric guitaring start of the 1980s I mistook his mustang for a strat and bought a strat type to be like him. I only realised my mistake last year and bought one of this model (in sonic blue). Great sounding instrument; I love it. Sounds and feels very different to a strat. I am trying to set the trem up properly so I can achieve Todd's quite extreme use of it but that set-up is proving tricky despite some YT advice on the subject.

I own one of these, out of the box it's a good intermediate level guitar. Take the time to swap the trem plate out with a fender one and change the nut to a graphtech one with a proper set up and you got your self a damn good guitar that's gig worthy. If you're like me and hate buzz, put some lil 59's in them they sound like the stock pickups just no hum.

1:52 No they're not rubbish when they're set up properly! The tremelo on that Squier is not set up right. The tremelo arm is supposed to be parallel to the body and the tube is not supposed to be touching or that close to the plate. The bar doesn't just fall out, there's a set screw on the side that locks it in place. I think the biggest misconception about the Mustang is they don't stay in tune because of the Tremelo. Ask Todd Rundgren about it! He was a mad man with the vibrato on his Mustang and he could go a few songs without having to tune it using the trem regularly.

The whammy bar arm is easy tightened into place by an Allen screw in the back of the lipstick tube bridge of the tremelo. Only a guy who hate’s tremelos would say “it’s gonna get lost anyway”. Yeah, only because you’re one of those guys who hates tremelos and will INTENTIONALLY throw it in the garbage. I don’t care if you are but don’t bullshit your viewers by not even bothering with an adjustment and assuming it WILL get lost no matter what.

I have this guitar, definitely a step up from standard mustang pickups but its still nothing mind blowing. Plays so comfortably though and I don't have small hands either. Wish the lake placid blue color was more widely available, only guitarcenter had a special run for it 😥

Do you think this is good for beginners? I am into jazz, hip hop/r&b. I also don't know If i should get the small or standard because I'm 5'1! My hands are small as well lol. I would appreciate the advice :) thanks!

Hey D, this is perfect guitar for beginners... or even better choice could be the Squier Bullet Mustang which is half the price and will do all those things but is more stable for tuning. There is also a review of that on this channel. Cheers!

Why did they make the headstocks so huge on these guitars!? I could row across the Atlantic with that paddle.

Great review…never had much interest in the Mustangs but now I think I’m going to rent one out! I’m surprised Leo Fender would send a design to market with a POS trem? Do you lay down your backing track with a looper? And…one more edit, are you going to sell any hats, shirts, etc? Would love to purchase to support!
@theguitaristas
@theguitaristas 2 года назад
Hey Michael, to be fair some people can make these tremolos work fine and the guitar has stood the test of time so Leo probably knew a bit more than me! 😂 I rarely use backing tracks so yes most times all I am doing is playing over a live loop. I really appreciate all the support this channel is getting... may will do some mugs or t shirts once we hit over 10k subs! Cheer dude! 😎👍🎸

Mustang trems are no way POS - the key with Mustangs is to screw the cigar tube down until the bridge is locked and won’t rock and then gradually loosen it until you have the right tension. The Mustang vibrato system keeps tune really well and is very cool. Also there is an internal screw that you have to tighten to keep the arm in place. Another tip is that Allparts replacement Mustang springs are higher tension than Fender ones and make it easier to get tuning stability.

@@elliotvernon7971- Correct. It just takes a few seconds to open a bag and extract the allen wrench. It’s like not plugging a guitar into an amp and then saying that the guitar doesn’t work because sound isn’t coming out of the amp. 👀

Does anyone know nice well the standard pickups sound with a distortion pedal? I have the Classic 70s vibe Jaguar and that sounded rubbish with any gain. (Fixed that with some Dimarzio humbuckers)
