And who gives up a $2 bill these days? That part was fairly obviously staged. Also knowing the vintage guitar community, there's almost a mania for keeping original parts, so I've got to imagine that neck wouldn't be so easily junked. Seems like I'm one of quite a few who clicked on the video just to call it out.

I am sure you are correct but did a little research. Korean made Fenders were made of plywood in the early 90's. I also looked up the serial number on the new neck, it is indeed an early 90's Korean Fender.

@@garypring2658 I agree, also the pick up wiring was not Fender like. This is just a rather new fake that probably first is made to look old and ugly in a non-believable way. The replacement neck was also not a real Fender. it is some strat looking neck with fake Fender stratocaster stickers.

When you sand a radius into a neck with a radius sanding block, you don’t want to wrap the sandpaper around the sides of the block because it changes the radius of the final piece due to the sandpaper bending at the edges. You want to glue the sandpaper to the bottom of the block. This will give you a much better radius on the neck. When you are dealing with a small radius like 7.25, changing it the tiniest bit can drastically change the final radius. And you can end up with uneven surfaces where the radius changes randomly. Now I know this is just a RU-vid restoration, but if you ever do this for a customer or for your own guitar that you mean to play regularly, use glue.

Before you fixed it the guitar looked exactly like the one in my room exept mine is in better condition and it was a custom made guitar not actually a fender, even though built like a fender. Side note, it was passed down to me from my uncle who got it from my grandfather who died a couple years back and even has a signature from from Elvin Bishop which is pretty cool. It’s a judgment call at the time you pull the frets out of a maple fretboard. If you get to much tear out when removing the fret ( like this guys did) you really don’t have a choice but to do a fretboard refinish. However I don’t usually go back on with an oil finish. Lacquer or poly finish will hold up better.

Unless you had an old strat neck from the same year, i would have been more inclined to repair the broken head stock with wood glue and clamp it with padded clamps. Then sand it smooth. The downside is it would have had a visible crack in it still. But you'd still have the original wood. And that could contribute to its sound. But finding a vintage replacement neck would certainly be far more desirable (and valuable). Trying to repair the head stock might be a bad idea though. It was just a thought because i hate to see the original wood not be used. Also, i wouldn't use an orbital sander. It could leave swirl marks. I would recommend sanding with the grain of the wood. But overall, it turned out very nice. Kudos for using the radius sanding block.

I'm not interested in the pedigree of the guitar so much as you saved a guitar from the landfill. I like a dude who admits that sometimes you just have to go new.Great work in the end.
