A lot of the non hair metal bands are this way. People are very surprised about how down to earth a lot of these guys are! Obviously the big stars have a much higher chance of letting fame get to them though.
I was a semi fan of mastodon but the more I watched interviews and seen how they are not serious rock star mentality guys atall it has made me a huge fan of them.
I have been a Mastodon and Troy Sanders fan for years. I own a lot of basses, from vintage to new, and this is by far my favorite bass. Outside of looking amazing, it plays great with tons of tonal options. I really like the reconfigured/simplified Jaguar controls as well.
I'd imagine that most Bassists who are fans of Mastodon would have loved Fender to reissue the older 1995-2008 "American Deluxe Precision Bass" with the Precision/Dual Coil pickup arrangement that Troy has in Silverburst, but as that's unlikely to happen, this new Signature Model is pretty awesome Bass! I'm very much NOT a Precision or P/J Bass kinda guy but I do realize it's a classic and useful tone to have in one's "Musical Toolbox". Place it in not the standard Precision or Jazz Bass body but instead the great Jaguar Bass body for a nice different & alternate look to most Fender Basses, with a Mother-Of-Pearl BLOCKED NECK... IN SILVERBURST... WITH MATCHING HEADSTOCK!! And as a positive for me, removing some of the original Jaguar Bass' not-very-useful switches such as Phase Reversals and stick to a tried and true 2-Band Active Preamp with Active/Passive bypass, Volume and Blend. And at a quite reasonable street price of $899 USD, that leaves more than enough for whatever upgrades you'd want to toss in: I'd probably start with the standard Fender "bent metal" bridge & tuners and replace them with Hipshot's Fender drop-in version of their wonderful "Type A" Bridge and Ultralite Tuners. New Pickups & Preamp could wait until I hear them for myself and compare their Gain Level to the rest of my gear. But what a killer set of features to start of with: a good amount of years ago I set a goal of not purchasing from the "Big Companies" and instead giving my money to Smaller & "Independents" who I can actually can and not only speak to the Owner or other High-Up, but "have a chat" with and not be pushed off the phone (which I've done in terms of Basses, Amps & Speakers, Effects, Strings... you name it) but Fender's Troy Sanders Signature Jaguar Bass might have me going back on my word.
I have watched this guy make out with his bass too many times and finally I can order one :D got to try it out at the local music store and loved it. 5 string Jag would be the dream but thats most likely not going to happen
I am currently waiting for this absolute beauty to ship from America, and oh fucking boy i am going to jump out of my socks when i get my hands on this bass! Oh and Troy is bae
funny about the sandwich analogy. i was in a band once with a guy nicknamed Weiner and we called ourselves Weiner and the Buns. I was a bun. The other guitarist was the other bun, the drummer was the mustard and Weiner was the bassist.
We actually say "jag-wahr" mostly, I have no idea why he's putting an "i" in there. I don't care for the silver burst much either, but people like what they like! You don't have to get the bass, haha. Cheers!
How come fender didn't show him playing the actual squier version? There are pictures and videos of him playing it but they chose to show his custom fender version
He has this video that he's supposed to recite facts about Mastodon. And says ''Mastodons, are often mistaken for woolly mammoths, which we find quite racist''
If you were in Britain or Australia you would find that very few people say Jag-wahr. Genius are we? Also, ENGlish comes from ENGland. If anyone is ever speaking it in a strange manner it's all of us North Americans. Step out of your boxes people.
