Wow. Spent about 20 min looking around for videos to better explain lumens and foot candles. Came across this video which provided AWESOME basic info AND I learned about candelas which I was a nice extra tid-bit. Didn't include foot candles but that was okay. Instead, got a great explanation of lux, lumens, and candelas with graphics starting at 1:50 to 2:50. Thanks!

I enjoy these videos, I was gonna go to a cheaper brand of emergency lights but after seeing how much feniex cares about educating potential buyers AND stays impartial by said "if you're not buying feniex please do your research" I find that AWESOME. Love this company

Katya, excellent video. It's so informative I could probably use this for Children's E/I programming on TV! You mention in the video that emergency lights must compete with light from the sun. This is true during the day but at night, when there is no sunlight, bright emergency lights can overwhelm (blind, dazzle, distract) drivers --making conditions less safe. This is especially true during rain and fog and with elderly drivers and those whom wear eyeglasses. There is a well-documented evidence of nighttime accidents resulting from light bars being too bright, I would recommend Feniex incorporate day/night selections into ALL your lighting products. Dimming should be at least 50% in the "night mode". The control could be either activated manually by the operator or varied automatically with a photocell. There's an old saying, "less is more". Sometimes less light means more safety. ..Chris..
@richardfuelling6120
@richardfuelling6120 2 года назад
Well feniex does have a dim feature built into lights, they can operate at 20% 50% and 100% brightness. I found that out by doing some digging on their products description on their website and the sites of their distributors. Thought this would most likely take fancy wiring and expensive control boxes

Also would it be possible to create a video of how you precisely calculated Lumens when factored in all of those variables you did when comparing both flashlights. I am about to post a RU-vid video on comparing the "Effective Lumens" between a high quality Mirimoto's H11 55W HID headlight kit and a high quality VLEDs 45W 9006 LED headlight kit. Creating similar tests would be soooo awesome 👍😎👍

I have been trying to find the differences between between these three terms and you have made it super clear to understand but I do have one question. Isn't Candelas simply the measurement of light intensity coming from the source of light itself instead of the "total amount of light given at an angular point" (you really threw me off when you defined Candelas as that :S)
@michaelsonnier9779
@michaelsonnier9779 6 лет назад
She is saying the same thing as your understanding of candelas. Basically, the person/tool measuring the light is the "angular point". Her way of putting is just a more specific definition.

Hello Katya, OK even with an understanding of lux, candlepower, and lumens I have a simple question. At normal distances of concern, lets say 100 feet, 300 feet and 500 feet, would a colored lens and clear leds, or clear lens with colored leds "appear" brighter to the human eye?

Where does the quad light bar fit in?
@BariumCobaltNitrog3n
@BariumCobaltNitrog3n 2 года назад
When lumens are used in a candela per lumen ratio you get the most information about the shape of the beam, intensity of the light and brightness at a distance. This ratio also gives you the throw, or farthest distance a human sized object is visible. So (numbers simplified) a 500 lumen light with a 30 degree beam angle may have a cd/l of 8, but the same light with a reflector giving a 15 degree beam angle will have 16 cd/l and twice the candela, giving a longer throw from the same output. Usually the higher the cd/l, the more "throwy" the light will be and have a tighter, smaller beam. Also, ALL lumen numbers advertised are 10-20% higher than reality, but some are quite laughable. $12 might get you 300 lumens but you can find that 90,000 lumens at the same price on Amazon is pretty common.

Awesome video now I have a question for you im a volunteer firefighter and im working on getting lights for my pov but im at a toss up between visor or regular roof mount light bar which is better and which would be mor visible
@Paul.atherton
@Paul.atherton 9 лет назад
***** roof lightbar, will cost more but the visability provided by a lightbar far surpasses an interior set up. for some reason people see lightbars better than interior visor bars. although the trade off is cost and a hole or two i suggest the lightbar if you have the funds. interiors are nice, but the lightbar will be better
@M1American
@M1American 8 лет назад
+Eugene Orr Agreeing with Paul Atherton, roof light is good due to being high on your vehicle making light pass over cars not being blocked by the car immediately near you. But think of this to, if its your vehicle a light bar screams you probably have valuables in your car as well. Interior lights are more discreet. But neither are better, its more of your exact situation and use. Sorry the late reply, just saw this video.

Katya, Is it possible that two different light bulb which produces same amount of Lumen but different LUX? Example - Bulb_1(9 watt ) and Bulb_2(9 watt) both produces 630 Lumen but Bulb_1 produce 100 LUX and Bulb_2 produce 200 LUX ? And Can we make a bulb which produce Sunlight? like morning sunlight.
@FeniexIndustries
@FeniexIndustries 5 лет назад
Thanks for reaching out, Darshan! Even if both lightbulbs are marketed as having a 630 lumen rating, we'd still need to take into account the 'raw vs effective' lumen ratings. If one of those lightbulbs has a slightly different filament, electrical foot contact, base wire or any number of bulb parts, it will effect that effective lumen number. If one of those bulbs has a higher effective lumen rating, it will produce more LUX. Another factor to take in account is if both of those bulbs were tested on the same surface. If not, that would also effect the LUX rating. So in short, it's definitely possible! For your second question, there are actually bulbs called "Sunlight Lightbulbs", also known as "Full Spectrum Lightbulbs". They produce small amounts of ultraviolet and infrared rays to imitate a sunlight spectrum precisely.

Oh. I guess I should only use their Lumen rating to compare products from the same brand.
@FeniexIndustries
@FeniexIndustries 4 года назад
Our main point is that Lumen ratings are not as essential as Candela ratings when it comes to emergency warning lights. If you're looking for a flood light or an off-road product used to illuminate as much darkness as possible, Lumen ratings are an appropriate measurement.
@march9857
@march9857 6 лет назад
So would a light that has 1k lumens with 35k cd be brighter than a light with 1800 lumens and 24k cd?
@emmnuelj6136
@emmnuelj6136 5 лет назад
depends on the source design. A flashlight has higher candela than a room lightbulb rated = Lm but the flashlight is unidirectional in comparison to the expandability of an house light bulb.
