@null na usb c is only implemented in more modern devices bc it provides faster charging, data transfer and provides all the same functions all other USB versions can do, usb c is smaller compact and parallel so u can put it in upside down if u want and it still works.

Love this light for everything. I use it for work (general contracting), hunting, and everything else. It can light up a basement or attic entirely at work if I need it to, the battery life is tremendous and it takes the same USB-C port as my laptop. I honestly think it’s waterproof because it’s taken several plunges on the way to a duck blind or crossing a creek. 6/5 stars for sure. Appreciate the review

Thanks for the comment! It is no doubt an excellent light. Does yours make that high pitched beep sound on high? My hearing is pretty good (still young lol) so like I mentioned in the video some people may simply not hear that high of a frequency. My mic actually was able to pick up the sound. Being a headlamp, it was just too close to my ears. I actually ended up getting another headlamp (review coming soon) that will fit my needs better. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Merry Christmas!

The USB C port was one of the things I was looking for when I went for the European version of this light. I absolutely didn't want one of those ports hidden under a screw on cap which you can lose. The great reason was an emergency scenario. You can plug it it to a powerbank and still use the medium mode (either spot or flood). If you use an angled USB C plug you can even keep it on your head. That's a HUGE advantage if you go into the mountains or just plan to spend the whole night outdoors (yep, you'd probably have some spare cell, but you'd probably star saving power AFTER something unexpected happens) or just fly to another country and have to minimize luggage weight and volume. Plus, the charging ports integrated in the batteries are usually micro USB which means having to have yet another cable type. For me the biggest bummer of this light is how hard it is to attach/detach the head strap. I was planning to (among other scenarios) use it with a helmet mount, but it seems it's much easier to adjust the straps each time than to detach them and use the mount.
@KReesethebeast
@KReesethebeast 4 года назад
To each their own I guess. You have mentioned some very good reasons for having an external charging port. I just see it as a way for the light to get dust and dirt into it.

I have extremely sensitive hearing and the only time I hear any sort of sound from the light is when I am using my cell phone. But it is extremely faint and barely perceptible if there is any other noise going on. May be some sort of wave combination sensitivity?? Other than that, this is the best headlamp I have ever used and I used to equip all my welders on my crew with the Streamlights. If I had these and was able to make up a spatter case like we did for the Streamlight, I would have definitely spent the money on a huge stock of these Fenix HM65R’s for sure. Nice review my man. Good to show the combo of the spot and flood together. I use that configuration almost every time I have that thing on my head!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻

I bought mine 2 days ago and I haven't noticed the high pitched wine with mine but I will be checking that carefully. Overall so far I am very impressed with the features and the quality of construction BUT ..... The battery does NOT give 21 hours of 400 lumens. IT DOESN'T EVEN GIVEN SIX HOURS!!! That is a BIG problem in my opinion.
@KReesethebeast
@KReesethebeast 4 года назад
Oh no! What battery do you have in your light? I am glad at least the whine is not there. I actually contacted Fenix about the light, we will see what they have to say, if they even respond to me. I sent them a link to this video and told them who I was and I would love the chance to do a more positive review of this light if they would send me one with the whine issue corrected, as I now understand that to be a defect in the light that they were aware of and corrected.

Cris Signori I’m considering this light do to the listed high run time. I don’t even know of another light that will do 400 lumens close to 20 hours. Keep us posted on if your new light gets closer to 20 hours, please.
@wojciechwroblewski7121
@wojciechwroblewski7121 4 года назад
It never will. The US version has some weird step down strategy, which means even if you get those 22H it won't be constant 400 lumens. The EU version has flat output and for 400 lumens you have 4 h of declared runtime with the 3500 mAh battery. Fortunately, from what I tested, in an emergency, the lowest 30lm on spotlight would be bright enough to e.g. keep on the path in the forest and that one gives you around 90h. The lowest flood setting gives 300h but I can't imagine hiking at night with that 8 lumen light.

I always appreciate an honest review myself...whether I personally like or agree with the results, so thank you. I do agree that this specific headlamp model isn't for everyone. That said, it remains very popular despite retailing at nearly $100 USD. I believe this is due to having the two-LED option combined with Fenix's build-quality and reliability. A lot of the users who love this light are people like cavers, night hikers, and utility workers, who's life literally depends on having reliable lighting equipment that can take a beating.

Thank you. If it was not for the beep, I probably would have kept it, but it was too annoying to deal with all the time and I knew something was not right. I have had emails with questions answered promptly by Streamlight, unfortunately cannot say the same for Fenix.

I would return it and try a new one. I had two powerbanks (Ravpower tough outdoors model) that emmited a high pitched whine). The third replacement was fine. Not a good hit ratio but paid a good local seller who returned them fine. The UI issues I understand. Thats a very personal thing. I use Zebralights which have a more complicated UI until it becomes second nature.

I have a friend who loves zebra lights and yes their UI is very complex but highly customizable. I am sticking to Streamlight and Nitecore from now on. I contacted Fenix, never got a response. They lost my business. I am a firefighter and our department like many others has contracts with Streamlight, a US company. Great products that we put our lives on the line with. I have an old polytac on my helmet, been using the same batteries for 5 years now, never had any issues whatsoever with the light, been in fires, in the rain on the side of the road on long extrications. I have few streamlights now and a nitecore NU20 jogging headlamp. Fenix can keep their stuff.

Note* I learned several years ago that not everyone's ears can pick up that frequency. I can pick it up very strongly and I can't stand it. I want to know if that is on every one of those or if yours was a fluke. Other than that I love the design and the light. But that noise would be 100% deal breaker. Could be a $2000 light given to me for free and I couldn't use it for the sound it makes. I was just about to purchase this and was planning on cutting that top strap off and use it for hunting purposes but not with that noise. As far as the battery and charging port goes that's not going to let water go inside and mess it up what so ever and fenix already stated if something did happen to seep in then it would he considered a manufacturing defect. The c charging unit is an upgrade to all previous in all aspects. That's why it's on everything now. It's more stable. Thicker, and can be inserted by either side and it's more bullet proof because of that thickness. And I would probably get 2 of those batteries (or upgrade to a different 3500mah battery and charge it on my charging station. They tend to charge 20x faster and hold charges better than the quick charge through a port.)😏 but that sound is God awful. Almost makes me sick at my stomach.

After a few try different combination of lighting the battery dropped below %20. I checked it and one light was flashing. So I began charging headlamp using my samsung phone charger. Later on immediately I saw that three lights were on constantly and the latter one was flashing as in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ff9xsMoKOcs.html I use the same charger which is seen in this video. Is this normal? As far as understand from user manual, after starting to charge, one indicator should flash first. Other indicators should be off till %21. I did not test that, mainly due to the high pitched constant beep on high, but I can tell you at 1400 lumens it starts getting hot very quickly. I should have thought more on what exactly I will use the light for, because it was just too much for my needs and I felt guilty spending almost $100 on it. I have this light and mine never turns off on 1400. Mine does not does not beep either. It doesn't dim down it stays on continuously for probably 2 and 1/2 hours at highest white light and highest neutral white both on. All that's kind of academic really when you consider that you never want to discharge your battery below about 30% otherwise you're seriously degrading its lifespan. The light is pretty heavy in extended use. I had to physically cut the strap off of it. It doesn't detach on its own and then I had to finagle velcro onto my hat and onto the base of the light and go through a bunch of weird stuff. At least now I can wear it on my belt or hat and I don't have to wear a quarter pound on my head when I don't want it, or put it in my pocket where it's not immediately accessible. For City slickers like myself sometimes you just want to walk your dog and you don't want to look like you could probably use a crash helmet too, you've got this rather bulbous light on your head and you look stupid as hell, and, of course, a walking advertisement in fluorescent orange. For people that run around in caves it's probably an awesome set up. It stays on when it's charging at about the mid-range and that's the bulk of what I use it for since I live on solar. Night light style pointed toward ceiling lights whole RV. It has taken a spill onto concrete for more than 6 feet up. Several times. I highly recommend the light as long as people understand the drawbacks.

@3:31 Regarding batteries with USB port Fenix actually offers these as Fenix ARB-L18 in 2600Mah and 3500Mah and comes with Micro USB port instead of USB-C. I must say i haven't heard the whining high pitch noise but that might be due to your microphone or my hearing capacity. This headlamp is the absolute best if you want a headlamp that has unrivaled battery endurance (22 hours in 400 lumens mode!). Not really a requirement if you're just using it for under your car but if you have to rely on a headlamp for instance when you are trailrunning or ultrarunning in the outdoors that last multiple days a headlamp with only 4 hour battery endurance is totally useless. The only thing i miss at this HM65R is RGB lights! Now Fenix just released a new headlamp, the HM61R but that only last 4 hours @ 400 lumens while HM65R last 22 hours @ 400 lumens. HUGE difference (same battery).
@KReesethebeast
@KReesethebeast 4 года назад
I totally agree! 400 lumens for 22 hours is great. Like I said, I gave this one a shot, but for me and what needed it for mostly, I felt guilty spending almost $100 on it. As for the high pitched beep, it was not the mic, I heard it as soon as I tried everything on high for the 1400 lumen max. I tapped it and shook it thinking maybe some sort of connection issue, but it did not stop. I tried everything. I may have kept it if it was not for the beep. I have already ordered a new headlamp (review will be coming after it arrives) that will fit my needs better. I love Fenix products and my first major big boy LED light purchase was the Fenix TK-35 in 2011. Technology has come a long way even since then, with lights producing more output with less power. This light is a great light, and for someone who needs everything it has to offer, it is great. I am a minimalist at heart, and prefer simple gear- one lens, one button, one battery, and lightweight. Thanks for the comment and Merry Christmas to you!

@@alimuharremturan581 Not sure if I understood you correctly but in Nitecore HC65 red light is not very bright. I can tell you I've never used red light on HC65 while camping. I think I can see something 2 meters away from me but not farther. Yes, Fenix is not giving stable light like Nitecore does and it goes down slowly. But with this slow stepdown you can get around 7 hours of light that will be enough for you to walk and to see everything 10-20 meters away from you while Nitecore will go to the lowest "Moonlight" mode (which is useless) in just 2 hours 50 minutes. Some would say to buy more batteries. While I prefer to get most of one battery. The big advantage of Fenix is that you can attach your powerbank to it and it will work in Mid mode with powerbank cable attached while Nitecore goes off when chargin. This is what people say here in comments. Check the the real working time test here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r7CB78Xy-vc.html As you can see, Fenix lasts much longer than Nitecore while their batteries are just the same. This is because Fenix light goes down slowly while Nitecore trying to keep it stable. However, on High and Turbo modes Nitecore is not stable too. It's stable only on Mid, Low and Moonlight modes. So if you want to have stable light during short period of time - buy Nitecore. But if you want to have longer light with one battery - go with Fenix. If you want to save money you may probably try to look at Sofirn SP40 on Aliexpress. It doesn't have red light but it's the best light you can ever get for such a small price and it's light is even brighter than HC65. I tested Sofirn SP40 and I think it's amazing for the price.

the port on the outside and the 3/13 deal is why i went for the olight m2r warrior pro over the fenix pd35r which in my opinion beats the m2r pro in high, low, and eco. the m2r pro was better in turbo and medium. ive been unfortunate to be stuck outside during a tornado warning for almost 2 hours with one actually touching down in a near by town. while stuck there was the most rain, lightning, and thunder i had ever seen. 20 miles away in my hometown there where tornado sirens and tree being ripped up and thrown across the road. it was pretty bad. i was lucky that after the first 4 seconds of what seemed like 50mph wind it died down to nothing in the valley i was in. i had checked the weather right before i was dropped off there and it said thunderstorms at 6pm, the damn thing decided that it will be much worse and roll in 1.5 hours later at 1:45. they tell you not to hide under trees but i knew it was safer than standing out in the open. they should say never be the tallest thing and never hide under the tallest thing. i was kayaking at the lake in that valley and it was surrounded by a fairly dense forest so i hid among some of the smaller trees about 15 feet in. there was lighting all around me and quite a few withing 100 yards but never got any closer. i now bring a poncho no matter what the weather is like or projected to be. ill also carry that olight once it arrives tomorrow. oh and that whine is coil whine from cheap Chinese capacitors that vibrate at a audible level. literally 1-2 cents more would have got fenix a Japanese capacitor that doesn't do that. i cant stand that noise. i was gonna get this light because it destroys everything olight has, id hot glue the port closed and charge the battery externally but i could still peel it off and use it in a emergency. oh well back to searching.

With the fenix accu crapping out early, that is the last thing I need hanging in a 400m wall in the middle of the night. Also I dont need it to overheat and burn my house. My ledlenser is superb but it has one flaw, it turns itself on very easily due to exposed on knob. So i need some reserve lamp just in case. I like noise, just not when it is from a defective light that I paid over 100 bucks for.

It was a review, and why I'm returning it. That doesn't qualify as clickbait in my book.

you are one PICKY dude . its 2 meters water proof. who cares how its charged. usb type C is great. i got 50 of these cables. same as samsung cable. every where i take my phone i can charge my headlamp. fyi for video is over exposed , way to much light. i didnt like that.

I got the new version of this light and it works fine. This one was a dud. I do like having USB C with them but I still feel in a shtf scenario a totally sealed light would last longer. just my opinion.

This review is useless for me. So much so that I'm buying this headlamp and I'll never return it.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far, but it definitely has some issues with the noise that needs worked out.

Terrible review. I mean seriously you are returning a flashlight that makes noises in your head that only you can hear?
@KReesethebeast
@KReesethebeast 3 года назад
My friend was beside me he could hear it. My dog looked at me sideways when I had it on. If that is a light you paid over 100 bucks for, you might have a different opinion.

@@KReesethebeast well I ordered it anyway. Should be here next week. If it makes noise then I'll eat crow and return it. But it's not likely. I own and use Numerous Fenix lights almost daily. On my hard hat at work and helmet in the mountains. I purchased this light to replace my 9-10yr old HC 55 that I lost.

@@Davidreliant I agree, they make good products and I have owned several. I want to add that I'm a Firefighter and my department deals exclusively with streamlight and they are great lights. I picked up a few since for my own and have had no issues with them. I had a question about one of my lights, sent them an email, and got a nice response fast. Compare that to Fenix when I asked them about this headlamp and the noise. No response. So, streamlight will get my business from now on.

@@KReesethebeast that's to bad, did you order from FenixUSA they are super responsive. Anyway yes streamlight and O-light ect all make good stuff. It's possible you received one with a faulty driver. Either way it's not audible in your video for us viewing.
