Excellent video! It was a fantastic day and I am very grateful to Fenland Crusader for inviting me along and allowing me to take part! It took me back nearly 60 years! Well done!
A machine that's self propelled and cuts, processes, stores and mechanically transfers grain! I 've always found combines fascinating. Another great vid
Superb video. I followed the Fenland crusaders 780 special series with great interest. Brilliant sight to see the two working together.. I'm sure it's extra special to have his grandson working alongside him.
Excellent video, takes me back to my childhood living on RAF bases in Lincolnshire, only thing that is missing is the howl of the mighty Vulcan! Steve did a great job on the 780!
WELL DONE !! When I was a wee lad of 4 or 5 years old, my dad's brother sold MF equipment in Newberry Vermont U.S.A. I would beg my uncle to take me to the dealership & give me a ride on one of those brand new MF tractors . Once in a while I would get lucky & they would have a demo set up out behind the dealership building. They would have a mounted tandem disk harrow & I would get to do some work , OOOHH I was in heaven for an hour or two !! My dad's mother 's father owned a MASSEY HARRIS 44. To top it off my mom's sister & brother in law owned a 45 head dairy farm , only 5 miles from our house on the edge of the suburbs . I would ride my bike out there as often as possible to spend time on the farm, I loved everything about it. My favourite model of MF tractors are the early 60's with the beautiful perforated & corrugated silver grill , beautifully rounded front end , say a 1962 model 50 wide front/ adjustable axle . I learned to operate on my Aunt & Uncles Farmall C N Fn't. & they had an Oliver super 77 W Fn't which I really LOVED . My dad's father was English , born in Sheffield. His dad was a sgt. In the horse drawn light artillery in the 1st WW they came to America when my grandfather was 9 . So you see I have the tractor & machinery fever disease BAAAAD !!! Especially ANY MASSEY FERGUSSON , OLIVER , FAMALL , & JOHN DEERE equipment. Especially from 1957 to 1976 , GREAT tractors & equipment , they were dependable , well built easy to repair , & they got the job done !!
The series of Fenland Crusader videos restoring the 788 Special was great to watch, as was the video of the 2 Massey combines in action. Brought back happy memories of my childhood in Dorset. It was also great to meet the Fenland Crusader at the Casterton event on Saturday - that was a very enjoyable day - many thanks to everyone involved in planning and executing the event - marvelous
It's always nice to see these vintage machines still kept in working order as they're part of our agricultural past and heritage. Back in their day they would have been state of the art machines replacing binders and stooks in the fields at harvest time. I seem to recall having a Corgi model of the 780 back in the 60s, now I wonder what ever happened to it ?
I subscribe to Steve as he’s right up my street with his farm, needless to say that I was brought up on them combines, they look good and we’re fortunate to be in a clean standing crop barley, different story when it’s laid and weeds growing through it when everything that has to be adjusted by mechanical increments unlike the later Masseys with hydraulic controls, concentration was tiring after a days work with them but it’s all we had at the time, great upload as usual 👍
Fantastic video enjoyed watching the Fenland Crusader series of videos getting the 780 special ready for work. It's a prefect end to this watching the combines at work on this excellent filmed video. Thankyou. Bloody nice job !!👌👌👌👍👍👍
Absolutely brilliant video bring back memories we had a Massey Harris 735 6 ft cut bagger and were cutting spring barley which was ram full of the weed Redshank you were choked and covered in a blackish redish dust which made your hands feel like silk and the only mask was a handkerchief The Good Old Days .All the best Alec.
Yes in the late 1960s, our neighbour also had a 6 foot cut 735 bagger with a Petrol/ TVO engine started with a handle. He harvested for us for one or two years until my dad got a Claas Super trailed combine.
Your camera skills are superb. Those old machines certainly are majestic giants of their day but it needs a good video man to portray it. That Farmall H looked lovely and would not be out of place at Casterton.
Another great video thanks. 2 fantastic old combines. the farm where I lived in the 70s made grain trailers by bolting a bit similar to the ones in the video to exixting trailers. Hope you didnt get too wet today. I saw you busy working at your show. It was a good show despite the weather
@@Casterton-Vintage Went along to see you all yesterday for the first time. Many thanks for a great day of harvesting, ploughing and cultivating. The variety of tractor makes on show was worth the visit on its own so thanks to all involved and well done.
@@Casterton-Vintage Unfortunately I couldnt make yesterday but I still enjoyed what I saw this morning . I will look forward to seeing your video of the bits I missed and will defiantly be back next year
