A mother shares her story of losing her 19 year old son to fentanyl poisoning.
After losing her 19 year old son, Cameron, to fentanyl poisoning, Becky felt the urgency to warn others of this dangerous drug. She has taken the pain of losing her son and has turned it into a passion for raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl through her non-profit organization, A Change For Cam. Becky’s journey has taken her to DEA Headquarters in our Nation's Capital, the Texas Capitol as well as schools, communities, and organizations across the state of Texas, all in an effort to help save lives. If you’d like to know more, please visit www.AChangeForCam.org.
Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

I just lost my boyfriend of 5 years to the same thing. I was pregnant and lost the baby 2 months after he passed also his mom had passed a year before him from Lupus. We were so excited for the baby I was in nursing school we had just got a house. We were so so happy I hadn’t seen him so happy after losing his mom. And he was just gone I quit school and work. I used the last of our money to get his car and I barely started using it after sitting for 3 months. But I’m finally trying to get myself together after this nightmare. I can’t function and don’t have much family money or help but I’ll figure it out soon 🖤 I am so sorry I just want to hug you. The pain is unbearable

Continue to pray and teach them about the dangers of all drugs. It only takes one time to get a deadly dose of medication, prescribed or bought illegally. Don’t hide the truth from them honesty is the key. Also learn about Narcan, the pharmacies in Illinois give it away free. I gave a box to my daughter when she went away to school. Her dad and I explained the dangers of drugs all of her life. We also decided as a collective to send a box w/ her as a preventative measure. On Valentine’s Day she went to a school party, couple kids passed out, she called 911, paramedics were sent, they had to administer 6 doses of Narcan to certain kids. It was at that moment she decided to carry the Narcan with her daily bc it’s a life or death situation. She also changed her major to Forensics because she wants to make a positive difference in ppl’s lives.

I’ve known Cameron since kindergarten and when I found out, it didn’t register to me that he wasn’t here anymore. It didn’t seem possible at the time to think that he wasn’t here with us; I just stayed in denial for a good while. I drove past his billboard 2 days ago, and the realization struck. It’s still so surreal to understand that this tragic thing happened, and it made me realize how much I miss him and the funny memories he created with our class. Growing up, I could tell he struggled a lot mentally but he showed so much strength through his humor, and fun spirit; and I had always admired that about him. Miss you Cam ♥️

I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. Mine overdosed and had the ambulance kick bathroom door down. He wasn’t breathing. 4 cans of Narcan got a pulse and breathing again. He was in ICU and in coma then to now vegetive state. He cant hold his head up nor eat. There are times he will track me with his eyes so, he maybe starting to become semi conscious. He’s now moved out of ICU to another floor in hospital. My son also took a Xanax laced with feytnal. I’m thankful to GOD Jesus Christ he’s alive, even if he has severe brain damage from lack of oxygen to the brain. I’m so sorry for the loss of your son too. Even to get your child into a rehab is a 6 months wait here in Oregon. The rehab said, since the border has been wide open, fetynal that came from China shipped in by cartel is killing off our youth. There are so many young people addicted to it that there just aren’t enough beds in rehab to help them. I tried to get my son in since he was addicted to Xanax that the doctor put him on at 17. He went to rehab for that. Yet, still bought a Xanax pill off someone laced with fentanyl. These kids are playing Russian roulette when taking just one pill that will drop them quick! I heard my son drop to the ground when he went to the bathroom to take a shower. It’s quick. My heart breaks for all families. Addiction is a monster. Some get addicted just trying the first time if pre disposed to addiction.

The bigger question is why are prescription drugs so addictive that people have to resort to street dealers to satisfy their need. If these drugs are so chemically altering, changing the brain forever, why aren’t we looking into alternative methods of medication that are less addictive and stopping the production of these opiates all together…

The border must be sealed 100%. The Fentanyl comes from China and goes to big Mexican Cartels who mix it with different fillers and form them into pills that look like Vicodin, Oxycontin, Xanax or any other pill. The pills are so good they can even fool a pharmacist. The Las Vegas sheriff says that almost 100% of pills sold on the street are laced with Fentanyl. I will vote for whoever will seal the border shut, I don't care which political party. Fentanyl is my number one issue. It's killing tens of thousands of our young people every year and it's growing. Most of these kids are good kids who made one bad decision.

My brother and sister in law are well off and attend church regularly. They were so busy patting themselves on the back for being holier than thou parents that they missed every sign that their youngest daughter was in serious trouble. They told her "why can't you just act happy". They were lucky. After 2 serious overdoses and multiple suicide attempts that resulted in hospital stays...once in ICU, their daughter went to a treatment center that really helped. She is well now and thriving but it could easily gone the other way. Never say not my kid. I was raised in the 70s and had a somewhat privileged childhood. My parents had NO IDEA what I was getting into. They had their heads in the sand. The Air Force straightened me out thank God!

Same here. I grew up privileged and my parents were clueless to my experimentations. Luckily it was a phase for me but many kids it becomes addiction. Education is so important. It’s not like the 70s 80s or 90’s anymore. Fentanyl is everywhere and does not often give 2nd chances. Our country needs to act NOW and deem this a true threat to our country.

@@Pink_143_6 it's crazy how the parents with money think their kids are untouchable!!! I tried to talk to a young family member about fentanyl and her parents got mad!!!! Don't blame the parents at some point around 14 a parent loses their real influence as guardians. And mentors, and they begin to make choices on their own period a child has to agree to follow you into adulthood.
@godschildyes

I don't think you should blame the parents for what their child chose to do, especially if they are from a good home. Kids from every type of home get into trouble. People who are genuinely good people with morals often get accused of being "holier than thou" and when something bad happens to their family, instead of them being supported and prayed for, people gloat over it. That's sad and disgusting.

Religiosity gets one nowhere. Of you study the Bible, Jesus didnt care for the "Religious crowd" My brother was a very good kid growing up, straight as an arrow. His issues started when he got staph in his jaw. 8 surgeries later...he had an addiction. He was the last person anyone would think to be a drug addict. It can happen to anyone. Glad to hear the Air Force lit a path for you. Thank you for your service. It's very scary that we have borders that are so porous that these pills are flooding this country. I blame China . Soul crushing! This breaks my heart on so many levels. Good on her for helping educate parents on the dangers of Fentanyl. Personally, it's in the news every day and there are endless online posts about it so I don't understand where the disconnect is? In every single one of these episodes, parents say they weren't aware of Fentanyl. I don't even have children and yet I am very aware of it. But she's doing something about it and for that I applaud her. And let me just say, it has never been a good idea to "experiment." People can become addicted very quickly. It's just not worth the risk. I'm so happy she brought the drug pusher to justice. How flagrant and callous he was! A kid just died on account of him and he uses that to market the same pills?! Truly disgusting! He has killed at least three people and gotten who knows how many more addicted. Many of those addicts will die eventually. He's getting his due. It just sucks that it happened in the first place.

I haven't seen or heard from my oldest son who is missing since about 2014! He moved to LA in 2009 and around 2014 was the last phone call with him. He called me really late the last time about 2am and I remember thinking, WOW why is he calling so late but we ended up being on the phone for about 3 hours because once he started talking I immediately knew something was wrong, I kick myself in the butt now because I should have called the cops then. He was in Los Angeles and I'm in Texas. Our conversation started out ok but quickly became very worry some for me! He was saying that people were following him and he was scared and that people were talking about him. I now believe that he was either on drugs or having a severe mental episode. I've not heard from him since then. I did find out that he was in jail 3 times but he now hasn't been jailed since around 2018 and I'm really scared because at least I knew he was alive then and now I don't know anything. Please pray that I hear something. Thanks. 😢😢😢

This is why we need to emulate Singapore's Anti-Drug Laws: death penalty for traffickers and dealers, heavy sentences for posession, and no plea deals.
@dante6985
@dante6985 Месяц назад
No, totally wrong direction. But your heart is in the right place. Above all do not give heavy sentences for possession of all things. The US needs to be more like Portugal. Portugal (11 million population) averages around 80 ODs a year. New Jersey alone (9 million) has around 3,800 ODs a year. Why? "Portugal's leaders responded by pivoting away from the U.S. drug war model, which prioritized narcotics seizures, arrests and lengthy prison sentences for drug offenders. Instead, Portugal focused scarce public dollars on health care, drug treatment, job training and housing. The system, integrated into the country's taxpayer-funded national health care system, is free and relatively easy to navigate."

I just really want to say thank uou for sharing uou and Camerom's story. I would really like to think this channel, this platform, the real life people that are really going through this directly or indirectly. Thank you so much to everyone for coming foward and sharing these stories no matter how hard they are or how hard it is to get it out, yous guys are doing the most good by sharing, and educating the rest of us, and showing everyone what can happen if they or someone they love are dabbling or have a drug abuse problem. Times are definitely not like they were when i was growing up experimenting, things were what they were supposed to be then, its rough for this new generation of kids,teens, users, experimenters, like its not just pills, everything is being laced nowadays and your first try of something could be your last try as well. That high people are chasing it could be their last high. Fentanyl is not something so common as to all the kids, or even adults are just fully aware of it, some may have heard of it but dont know what it is or how serious and potentially life threatening it can be. So it's a blessing to have everyone on here be able to educate people just a little more with every story. I have 5 children and i feel better that i now know about this drug and have neen able to educate my children about it also and have to have faith that should any of them try to experiment with drugs that they really keep this knowledge in the front of their minds. I just wish that this can be bigger, nationally, on many platforms so more people, more youth are able to access it, let it come on commercials as a public service announcement, as mandatory viewing on some ads, something i don't know for sure and realize how expensive this all is but people having the knowledge to save multiple lives is priceless! So again thank everyone so much and i will always include everyone in all these stories (as a whole) in my prayers.
