A mother, Stefanie Turner, and her daughter share their story of losing this 19-year-old family member to fentanyl poisoning.
Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

I had a horrific childhhod. Not worth giving details. I never wanted to do drugs. Early on I realized that if I died from an overdose, not one of my family members would care. I had to look out for myself. I was all I had.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I had a really rough childhood also..several different types of abuse from my narcissist father. I did get into drugs as a teenager, looking back I was definitely self medicating that trauma away The thing is, I had to grow up to understand that the drugs do nothing to help the situation. Those problems were still waiting for me when the high was gone. It's sad that so many of these kids that are no longer here weren't allowed to live through those mistakes and grow up and learn those important lessons. These kids needed counseling and therapy, the drugs don't love you

My mom used before pregnant with me, while pregnant with me and after I was born. At 13 years old I fell asleep in the bed with my mom (we had no running water or electricity). I woke up next to my mom who had OD as I slept beside her. I sat in the bed next to her for over three hours not knowing what to do but also scared to tell anyone because I didn’t know where I would go. Luckily my dad had been trying to find me and he had gotten sober about 7 years prior. He stayed sober until he passed in 2021 with dance. Many don’t understand when I say this but my mom saved my life that day. I know I would not be where I am today had she lived. It breaks my heart to say that but it’s true. I’m a firm believer that everyone will get sober in their life time. It’ll either be on this either or when they pass away. PLEASE I BEG YOU…IF YOU SUFFER FROM ADDICTION PLEASE ASK FOR HELP. It is. Years ago, my cousin was living with my husband and me. He told us he had used pretty much every drug, except heroin, and said he was never going to try heroin because it was so addictive. But he did use heroin eventually. He told us he had bought it from a dealer he had known for many years. The guy begged him not to start with heroin. He showed my cousin all the old track marks and scars from his own years as an IV drug user, between his toes, in his groin… he said you’re more likely to die from the addiction than recover from it. But my cousin said he would just go and find another dealer, so the guy sold to him. This is one of the happy endings, at least so far. It’s been 22 years. It took years in a state rehab facility, years of going to the clinic every day for methadone, but he is clean. Fentanyl wasn’t part of the picture then. An addict today might not have years to fight their addiction. We are not going to be able to arrest our way out of this. We need to figure out why people are still buying illegal drugs, knowing that fentanyl has created a kind of Russian Roulette, knowing how high the likelihood is that they could die from one dose.

@@josephinevera9966 It's incredibly painful for a mother to see one of her children hurt. I found someone close to me who died in her sleep. She was not my mom, but she was the woman I called mom. It was horrible, and it's impossible to forget. She had just been taking a nap, in the middle of the day bc she didn't sleep well the previous night. She was on her boyfriend's couch in his living room, and he and his teen son were right there watching TV. I listen to other people's stories and something that everyone seems to do, is blame themselves by wishing they had been there to check on their deceased loved one. That whole horrible, "What if?" In reality however, they could have still been there, and not have even known. That's exactly what happened with mom. She died from a heart condition tho, it wasn't an OD. The only reason that I found her is bc his son came next door to my apartment. He mentioned mom was at his place taking a nap. I made a joke! I asked him if he was coming to my apartment to escape her loud snoring. (It was so so so very loud lol) He laughed, and responded with, "No, lol she's not snoring." That's when I said, "Wow! Really? Have you checked to see if she's dead?" Then I immediately, and suddenly, felt a sense of alarm. So I went to check in on her, she did have a history of strokes. Never told any of the family that she also had a bad heart. She never thought of herself, she was always putting others comfort ahead of her own, she didn't want to worry us. So I checked, and my entire world was forever changed. It was my husband's mom, my mom. He was SHATTERED! The ONLY thing worse than finding her and seeing her like that, and him seeing her like that, (besides her actually dying of course,) was that I had to tell Mamaw that her first born daughter was dead at the age of 43. (Only Mamaw I ever known too.) Besides the fact that I love both of those women immensely, I was literally telling a mother that her child was dead. I could actually hear the life drain from her voice, and it never returned. THAT was so bad, and gut wrenching. THAT haunts me, along with everything else about that day.

Constantly, I'm seeing parents state their deceased child thought they were buying Percocet! As a Nurse and a parent, this is so disturbing to me! Why are we not doing something to figure out why kids need the drug in the first place!!??

Young people do drugs/narcotics today for many of the same reasons that they always have in decades past. 🤷‍♀️
@TheMonica82

@Kris that may be True - but what is that old saying - keep doing the same thing but expecting different results.. Maybe it's time for a real change Especially since young people are dropping deceased from (1) pill; unlike decades ago when it was for what they called fun! Well, it's russian roulette now buying a "mystery pill" off of the streets! So, a Serious Conversation Is definitely Needed with ones Child now - Right Now! #Blessings to All Families from this awful Tragedy....

Wow, you are a strong woman to be able to talk about your sons passing, may God Bless you and your family. I lost my 26 year old son February 25,2023, he too was bright, interested in psychedelics was a very hard worker with a great work ethic, good at everything he did, meth got him in the end, the drugs out there are designed to kill, not to get high anymore, this is the devil in action, I truly believe a spiritual battle. I wish I did more, the pain of losing a child is unimaginable and no parent should have to endure pain like this,

May God bless the Roe and Turner families. I can tell how great a child Tucker was because clearly his mom is a hero--as is his sister, for going through the emotional toil it must've taken on you both to do this video. Stefanie, you articulated perfectly what fentanyl is. I'll no longer refer to it as a drug--but as a poison, as you said. Two of my best friends lost their sons to fentanyl poisonings. I'm writing your names down on my prayer list, and Tucker Roe's name will be forever on my heart (as will you and your family). I am so, so sorry. There are no words.

I went to hike in the US in 2017 and was shocked at the casualness about things like hallucinogenics like marijuana, mushrooms and even ayahuasca. It was as “normal” as drinking coffee to many. A guy I met on the trail hiked with broken toe and didn’t even realized they were broken because he was high all the time. It was a big culture shock for me coming from a place where any kind of drugs / hallucinogenic are illegal and punishable up to death. I often wondered where is the line between safe and danger. It’s like alcohol…our body response is different every day. Some days, 1 glass is enough to knock me out and some days, I can walk straight even after 3 glasses. I think it’s impossible to tell how the body will react. To see so many young lives been taken this way is beyond sad and many happened quite innocently too. I wonder if the danger is the casualness about getting high or is it fentanyl cos when you abolish fentanyl, something else and possibly more deadly will be created cos as long as there is demand, there will always be supply whether it’s called this or that. Just wondering…
