One of my favourite ships. Always loved it. Not sure it works as a bad ass alien ship, but the fact that it was mostly on par with a Galaxy class says a lot.

Let's not forget the custom zoom on the Ferengi viewscreen. Little alien men liked their nostrils huge on the viewscreen to impress the negotiations.

I LOBE the Ferrengi (no pun intended) so I thoroughly enjoyed this episode :D The old Trekyards is back! I know they regularly do ship breakdowns so technically they never left and every other video is just bonus, but this video just had the old Trekyards style vibe with great dad jokes and an upbeat feel. If the Ferrengi bought their warp technology from the Breen, I wonder what it was the Ferrengi had to offer that the Breen wanted? I can't even begin to imagine haha. I remeber one episode of ST when the Ferrengi were looking for a loot vault on a Federation ship they captured and they couldn't figure out why the human ships didnt have one, so I definitely agree with the ship having a layout of wide open space for their loot. Anyways, great episode!

A good Andrew Probert Design. He did a good job for Star Trek. Thank you ;)

A little envious that you have the cg model... I'm trying to create my own scratch built model kit of that ship at 1:1400 scale.

I like that the Ferengi were too comical to be serious villains. The way they were developed after that in TNG and through DS9 made them an interesting addition to the Trek universe.

I like the Ferengi design. I think it would also look good as a building, like some sci-fi training facility. Maybe it's the ship's flat bottom.
@watcherzero5256
@watcherzero5256 5 лет назад
I do love how flat the bottom is, I don't think any other starship has as flat a plane.
@evangreen3080
@evangreen3080 5 лет назад
I'm not too sure what to make of that actually. I thought I read Andrew Probert actually allowed for a little curving at the bottom so that the nacelles had line of sight with each other to follow Roddenberry's rule. And I think the original physical model is a little curved that way even if the CG isn't?? But they're both very flat compared to other ships, and I kind of always thought that was so that they could land somewhere, maraud (or do business), load their loot (or cargo), and scram. Come to think of it, it might be interesting if they could land on both planets to maraud and also space stations where they could unload their cargo from ports directly underneath the ship.

Think the ship represents the ferengi who are opportunistic. If they can trade they will if the can steal they wil or they will fight for it. It fits their life style perfectly.

I don't agree that it's "underwhelming". I think it's the kind of design that grows on you. It has an interesting shape. Regarding the multiple designations, it makes sense to save costs by using the same "frame" for as many roles as possible. The difference in "classes" may be down to differences in configuration, as you guys hinted at. The transport/cargo/trade variant may have less weapons. Shame that "surrender" function wasn't shown more often. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I re-watch TNG.

The Ferengi Alliance government's relations with Ferengi DaiMons always reminded me of privateers. With that type of relation it allows great flexibility for situations. I personally have always like the design & well done on the commentary that expands the information for the ship.
@seanoneill9606
@seanoneill9606 4 года назад
Its large and round back might be related to its warp field generation. The nacelles are in the back, I don't think that's a coincidence.
@Jack_Stafford

What always remained with me was it's really unique and cool "warp away" effect. It certainly left an impression, as unique as the ship is it cannot be mistaken for anything else especially when warping away in a yellow blur in retreat!

Oh yes I've been doing that too. Unfortunately A1 was really unstable, crashing all the time, it was an annoying as hell. I played a lot (still do sometimes) with A2, used some of the available (fan) mods even managed to make my own. I remember there was a mission for the Romulans to "aquire" the Omega particle from the Ferengi and the Cardassian (Dominion) forces were making a nuisance of themselves, that was fun.

You guys should check out armed Merchantment which I believe is essentially what the entire Ferengi fleet are. In the age of sail Merchantmen could be as heavily armed (though lack the sailing performance) of a dedicated warship, Indiamen for example could be armed with 56 cannon and be considered equal to a 4th rate ship of the line.
@evangreen3080
@evangreen3080 5 лет назад
This really should have shown up on DS9 whenever the Grand Nagus had to travel anywhere. Or even as cargo ships in the backgrounds of fleets during the Dominion War...maybe on both sides! lol

It makes sense that the Ferengi's main shipbuilder would be a monopoly and do as little R&D to build different classes as possible

I would say that each D'Kora class is unique and dependent on the Captain/Owner of the ship and how well they can equip it and how it will be used. I also think (and it is pure theory) that probably about 60 - 70% (I honestly believe that most Ferengi are too focused on making profit to go into the sciences, although there are black sheep they will also need staff so it makes research projects difficult to get off the floor) of technology is bought from other races and reverse engineered. As such Ferengi tech may wax and wane depending upon the the state of the Ferengi market and their partners willingness to trade tech. The D'Kora seen in "The Last Outpost" was considered on equal power parity to the Galaxy class, however this could be a very heavily armed raiding equipped variant. This could be implied as they just raided a Federation outpost. If this is the case then the average may be more on par with an Excelsior class or Ambassador class... or possibly somewhere in between. I due have a lot more to say about this class and will probably put it on the Facebook page.

You guys notice that every time TrekYards drop a new video with a ship the channel "Lore Reloaded" just copies everything from the capt. Commander? And uploads a similar video.

1:45 that would be about half the mass of the enterprise d, and given the practically luxury liner status of that ship, it would still be a pretty good match in mass for the enterprise d as long as the ship they encountered wasn't also luxuried out.

I never did like the design when it first came out, but I will admit that such designs can "grow" on you. There are always problems with physical models and as physical models go it's not the worst. (Honestly, even though I like it, the original Romulan Bird of Prey was the worst because it had nothing on it to give any sense of scale.) The CGI version seems to have enough detail to start to make it "pop" out, although the surrender mode is still lame.

This ship? Dunno..... neither here, nor there.... i don't hate it and i don't love it. It's kinda ok i guess. They never get flashed out during TNG and later appearances to have a character of its own, or for us to have some concrete idea as to what its capabilities are. I guess it has a lot to do with the Ferengi slowly being delegated to comic relief and less of a threat. A pity.....but then again, TNG is guilty of much greater atrocities....
