My Papaw that passed before i was born bought A Ferguson similar to this, brand new. And unfortunately he developed Parkinson's a few years later and the tractor just sat from around 1960 up until 2010 when 13 year old me took a liking to it and wanted to get it running. I Changed the oil, spark plugs, and points. I put the key in, turned it and it did nothing. I kept messing with it until i started to get a little angry. In my moment of anger I kinda slapped the shifter and it bumped over. I was shocked and moved the shifter again and it immediately fired up and ran like a top after sitting for about 50 years in a field. I was so excited that I had gotten it running by myself since i didn't have anyone to show me how to work on things. So far it hasn't given me any problems its done everything ive asked it to. Very proud of my little grey Tractor. I am a Master Mechanic now and sometime in the near future i want to restore my tractor, i feel that it deserves it.

Wow! What a great story! I was lucky and someone showed me the gear shift thing before I needed it. I use mine to keep up with the grass on my land. Mine needs rings and main bearings but after a little smoke, she just putts right along. Uses about a quart of oil every five acres. Governor is broken but you learn how to live without one... like goosing it before every elevation change. Its got a busted exhaust gasket too so you have to tack with it like a sail boat to keep from getting gassed. I hope you publish that rebuild project and preface it with this story.

Thanks for the video. I just bought my first tractor for my place. 1953 TO-30. Its been converted to 12 volt and has had some TLC but I need to give it some more for sure.

I would also check to see if it has an electronic ignition system. If not, consider putting one in. Keeping points maintained can be a pita.

@@rockpaperstone8722 I might look into that. I had to get the fuel/throttle figured out. Super easy to flood mine for some reason.

@@rockpaperstone8722 thank you but I gave up on it it's somebody else's tractor I was going to fix it I've already replaced two pistons I'm done working on this thing and it's a 1974 Massey Ferguson 1045

Gotcha! Yeah I sold my TO-30 two years ago. Now I've got a Ford F80 that needs a new clutch. Not looking forward to busting the tractor in two. Replacing pistons way more work than changing fluid.

@@rockpaperstone8722 i'm sure its just as frustrating not being able to get the words out yourself, as it is watching it. my fe35 has only 2 drain plugs i guess they are a bit different

@@joelclark634 This was one of the first videos I ever did. I know that I had a problem with thinking out loud with the um's buying me time I guess. I'm very aware now thanks to you and others pointing it out. I've learned now to just keep my mouth shut when I'm thinking. Your fe35 is newer than mine... lol both are real antiques. My lift just got stuck in the up position so it's back to the dad-gumed wrenches again.

You may want to rehearse or something next time or use cheat cards. That was really drawn out and lasted a lot longer than it should have. A lot of “ugh”, “mmmm”, etc. makes it hard to take this video seriously. No offense just some friendly advice for next time
