Hey there! Thanks for watching and best of luck with your upcoming ATSSB audition! It's awesome that you're tackling this on both tenor and alto sax. Without knowing any specifics about how you play, here are a few general tips: Expressive Dynamics: Pay attention to the dynamic markings and bring out the contrasts. This adds a lot of character to the piece. Articulation: Focus on crisp, precise, and accurate articulation. It can really enhance the rhythmic clarity and overall musicality. Phrasing: Think about the phrases and try to shape them musically. Consider where the music is going - pushing toward a high point or relaxing away from one - and build a compelling narrative. Tempo: Keep a steady tempo. It's easy to rush in faster sections, so practice with a metronome to maintain control. Tone Quality: Work on achieving a beautiful and resonant tone. Experiment with different tonal colors to bring out the expressive qualities of the etude. Remember to enjoy the process of learning and performing these etudes. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions. Best of luck at your audition!
Hey there! Great question, and it's awesome to see your dedication to improving your tempo. When I'm working on speeding things up, I like to break it down into smaller, manageable chunks. Let's say you're aiming for a tempo faster than 100 bpm; instead, try playing just beat one at the faster tempo. Then beat two. Then put one and two together. This way, you can focus on each segment and give yourself a breather in between. It'll help you anticipate what's coming next and see the music in patterns, not just individual notes. Another trick I use is mixing faster and slower repetitions. For example, think of a +2/-5 tempo pattern. Begin at 80 bpm, then play at 82, drop down to 75, then up to 84, drop to 70, then up to 86, and so on. This approach can reduce tension in your playing and improve your overall technique efficiency. Keep up the hard work, and remember, I'm here to help anytime you need it!
