I admire Nigel Benn. He had the humility and intelligence to turn his life around. This is courage, and this is a winner. Losers make snide comments about turning a person turning their life around. I wathched his fights from the USA and thought he was an extrodinary fighter, and now I think he is an extrodinary man. RESPECT.
@@willandrews9741 Also agreed, while I never was a boxer or a world champion, events in my life led it to be very much like Nigel's and I know what it means to find peace in your life, it doesn't matter what you have, or think you want, until you find real peace, everything you achieve or acquire is somehow hollow and worthless. You cannot buy, or earn peace, but you can achieve it once you mature enough to be able to reset everything you were focused on before, and begin to value the real things in life which bring peace and happiness.
@@fiveowaf454 hope you don't mind me replying to this, but I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my life after 15 years with drug and alcohol addictions, what you said in your post is spot on and is something I'm going to remember while I keep on this journey of been clean and sober. Thankyou, you might not realise but saying things like that publicly gives people like me a reason to stick with it. All the best 👍
@@SUPERLEEDSYRA I wish you good luck with your ongoing battle, just hold on to the fact that there was nothing that was really good in the "world" you were in for all those years, so don't ever go back there. What is weird is that I distinctly remember when I typed that comment feeling that someone needed to hear it, I almost deleted it before posting it, but something told me not to.
@@fiveowaf454 Thanks for your reply and again thank you for your original post, finding peace and finding myself again is exactly what I'm in the process of doing, I've soaked myself in alcohol and all different kinds of drugs for years that you definitely can forget who you really are, but reading comments like yours makes me even more determined that it can and will be done. One day at a time. Can't thank you enough 👍
Always a fan of Nigel Benn, even moreso after watching this interview. Brilliant host who let him speak . Brilliant honesty from Benn. God Bless you Nigel.
I grew up watching Nigel . What a man mountain, it would be a privilege to shake his hand one day . I now follow his son Conor . I've watched every single fight of Nigel's and I will do the same with Conor . TEAM BENN ALL THE WAY !!! NUMBER 1, 2ND TO NO ONE!!!
Nigel Benn was a terrific boxer- very exciting to watch, he was extremely tenacious, always took the fight to his opponent. He was relentless in applying pressure against an opponent, had a terrific work rate, a decent defence, and he was a hard hitter. He was never more dangerous than when an opponent hurt him. You could tell that he had served as an infantry soldier- he would counter with extreme aggression, get in close and hammer into opponents. Regardless of his excellent track record as a champion boxer, for me, his greatest achievement was turning his life around. He had the intelligence and decency to appreciate that he was mixing with the wrong people and that his lifestyle wasn't great. He had the courage and strength of mind to just walk away and reinvent himself. Now he's a Christian and involved in providing marriage guidance to couples. Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank were largely culpable for creating a Golden Age of British boxing, they were both very talented and exciting to watch, and their rivalry was legendary. It's great that they respect each other these days. Nigel is undoubtedly one of the greatest British boxers, he was spectacular to watch and always fought with great determination and heart. *RESPECT!*
Didn't know who he was until I saw his book at a charity shop. Just read it and he's one of my favourite boxer. So inspirational especially to my family and reminds me that God is always there when your up or down! Thanks a lot for downloading this and much appreciated.
I grew up watching his fights and had the pleasure of meeting him at mirage night club where he was dj’ing, many years down the line I’ve been through some tough times of my own and truly feel like I was meant to see this video and make some changes to my life too, your a true legend in my eyes Nigel god bless you & your family champ & also all those close to you.
I always loved Benn and rooted for him to win when I watched. Life has a way of humbling you - even people like Benn who reached the heights and "had it all." I'm glad to see Nigel is at Benn is at peace.
I think Benn has or did so when younger 'ADHD' (or similar) the army and boxing are two positive ways of channelling that mindset as they demand near full focus and discipline he still gets hyper bursts of energy and when conversation touches on something he values his eyes go large with the sparks for fire in them great champion, fighter and boxer with the true warriors heart
Blew my mind. Everyone needs god in their life. Even if you don't go to church at the moment, just sit & say a prayer. That will start you on your journey. God bless you all
This guys life is so encouraging to me rn, i had to break up with my girlfriend i love to focus on god and his situation with his wife helps so much, knowing someone else went through it. God is so good, and nigel is such an awesome man!
Nigel the destroyer benn, what a legend says it how it is, best of the 80s yes the Americans had the greats but this man you can not forget the unformidable power and will power of this man.....
Nigel Benn was a serious dude, McClellan was tipped to be the next big thing, just blowing dudes away. There was something bad in the air that night they fought. I remember watching it and feeling a bad atmosphere of two serious guys wanting to do damage. What happened to Gerald is really upsetting.
One of my top sporting heroes, what's wonderful to see is that despite his self destructive behavior he has managed to in time achieve both great success as a boxer, but also as a father, the comments his children made about him showed the real success he's achieved.
Godddd I miss these days of boxing. I mean of course the years leading up to it were golden days of boxing too with the likes of Hagler, Hearns, Sugar day and so on but this was the era of boxing that saw me at an age where I was old enough to understand what was going on. I just loved it, loved it. I look at boxing these days, all weight divisions, and it just depresses me to see a sport that I loved so much turn into such a miserable spectacle.
I totally agree. I grew up watching the legends you mentioned too. We didn't realize at the time the greatness on show on terrestrial TV here in the UK back then. It was a very different time. I guess we're showing how old we all are now.
Warrior for sure not the most gifted but one off the most exciting brawler to ever lace a pair off gloves up! True British pride he is. He feared no man
Just like in the ring - Nige wears his heart on his sleeve. Frank, honest and hard-hitting interview. great to see he got his life back on track thanks to the Lord. I remember seeing this one Sunday morning, years ago. Thanks for uploading.
I'm Roman Catholic and my faith in my Religion has got me through some of the toughest battle's ever. The biggiest battle is the fight to not commit suicide. 3 year's now batteling the illness. After such awful mistake's that have been caused to my life causeing me to feel the way I now do. Plus mistake's I've made ruining my Earthly life. I've also made mistake's to my Earthly life because of the mistake's causeing heartache and misery to my Earthly life. God and his Son Father Jesus are loveing men. Father Jesus that love's all of his Good Son's and Daughter's in this Earthly Life we have before us Good return home to Heaven once again Amen xxx. I remember Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank's fight's as a teenager and you will never ever in our lifetime see any boxing fight like that ever again. Where two boxer's skilled professional's wanted to put the other guy's head on the canvas. Absoulutly amazing fight's them two boxing match's of Benn and Eubank were. God Bless The Benn family and all us Good in this Earthly lifetime Amen xxx.
Been where you are or have been. Just remember this others have to clean up after a suicide, that's what now stops me from doing it. And I made a real mess. It looked like a clip out of a horror movie. That was 16 years ago.
Hell of a battle Nigel your fights were, remember it was business. Tough determined aggressive warriors always the risk of disaster could have been you. Brave man opening up your soul you belong together. Enjoy life you've found yourself, done it all long ago, you dont need boxing certainly not in the ring now! Relax take it easy a book be a new challenge likely very interesting. A superb conversation revealed the real person a good man great job Fearne.
Benns a living fucking legend and his fight with the yank he crippled was arguably the best fight in middleweight boxing. A total fucking classic. Gerald maclennan may strongly disagree, if he could manage too speak that is.
It's Fern Britton................... Also Ricky Hatton must be a heavyweight now, the drink has obviously got hold of him. I'm not saying he's fat but when they put his picture in the paper it was an aerial photograph............................He's got more chins than a Chinese telephone directory.................The only man in the whole country with 105% body fat.
Nigel's family are very special. Dixon his dear father was a great human being. Nice memory's of Elim Church Ilford. Hope Nigel's friend little Lloyd is keeping well.
My friends cousin was in the the army with him and told me he got a few beatings outside of the ring due to him picking on people he thought he could beat.
Good interview I hear Ben's fighting saiko bika a real iron man at 55 I worry for nigel after all he has been through and as a fight fan I don't want to see him get hurt hopefully he wont.
I've watched you got off my nut in Bognor Regis with you. Your reflections Your journey and Your Example to not only Your Fellow Man but to the Wife at Your Side and the Kids who stand within Your Shadow , Your Honesty is Humbling and Beautiful take Good Care and May You Stay Nigel " The Dark Destroyer " Benn . The Police should have let the ambulances to Andy right away, if they were saying 'No, there's still a danger' like at Hillsborough they did well could the police not have protected the medics, the skinheads didn't have guns the mofo's. Also a certain person should not have said what he did to Dixon, no wonder Nigel kept getting up after that! His punches pushed you too, like his target is behind your head and your heads a sheet of paper he gotta punch through cos his hooks throw some guys across the ring! 'All the army eh Nige' Remember me, got the video but not posted it outta respect.
Nigel used to intimidate opponents like Iron Mike Tyson, he was ferocious boxer who wouldn’t back down, the Gerald fight brought out the warrior he was
