Great idea to have 6 hours of the 7 hour broadcast to be exclusive to the United States and locked behind a paywall. You guys seriously messed up with the broadcast deals.
As a hardcore F1 fan, I really appreciate Indy. It is its own thing and very different to circuit racing which I prefer but it has some fun races. Wish Nando the best, hopefully he will win and get the triple crown.
It’s not only oval racing. They race on circuits too. Oval racing much closer, to be the fastest on the oval, the tiniest of mistakes can cost you a lot of time
I cant imagine how nerve wracking it is driving at 225 mph/360 kph knowing if you make even a slight mistake you could be going straight into the wall.
They just need experience, I just want to see them in the race and to finish it, because unless something unusual happens, they're going to finish at the back sadly.
The problem is that they have a factory team...and McLaren is not an Indy team Why Alonso had a good performance in Indy 2017? because he had a top car, Andretti, and he is a very good driver Why Alonso won Le Mans? because he had the only car to win, the Toyota, and he is a very good driver (with mates) Why Alonso won Daytona24? because he had a fast car and he is a very good driver (with mates) Why Alonso is hardly gonna win Indy 19? because he has not a car fast enough, even though he is a very good driver Alonso is one of the best drivers in the world, maybe even the best, but he needs a competitive car, like every driver They should have joined Penske like they did in 2017 with Andretti. He should know, he has been struggleing with uncompetitive machinery (or not competitive enough) in F1 since 2008
@@user-qr3ee3zp8q it seems like that in the video, cause the track is empty, but when your racing, the driver will have to manage the traffic, the overtakes, the tyres temperature, the overall strategy, the yellow flags, keeping focus during the 500 miles... Sure, their team in the wall help them a lot, but only an intelligent and skilled driver can have a possibility to win this kinds of races :)
Alonso has less chance than 2 years ago. Interesting gear ratios and gear changes. This track to F1 followers might seem simple, but to go quick lap after lap it needs just as much precision as a circuit track, perhaps more actually as it is harder to find a gain over others, and car setup needs super fine tuning.
I like to describe it to F1-only fans (i.e. not motorsport fans) as doing Suzuka's 130R corner 800 times in a race, and all your overtakes have to be going into 130R. Oh, and there's no runoff like there is at 130R...
@@ciello___8307 I know, I used to work at Cosworth. But look at the logo above the display. It isn't the Cosworth one, it's a McLaren logo. Just find it a bit funny, even though Zak Brown is part of Cosworth.
Yuzuki 1203 To be fair he has always proven himself in the race rather than qualifying, if his F1 career is any example, so he may yet fight a good fight in the race and take it.
ANOTHER WAY of looking at it and imagining is, THINK OF SOMEPLACE where U live, that is 2 1/2 miles from your house, THEN imagine your self hunkered down behind the wheel & driving out there to your destination in about 41 - 42 seconds 😃❗️ 🏎- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - H O L Y Y Y C R A A A A A A A A A A A A P- - - - - - - - 💥 🤣
@@GUNNERSIGHTZEROED when I originally commented he was 35th out of 35 in qualifying now he is 30th so getting better. I noticed his steering wheel is straight on the straights when everyone else is turning slightly right on the straights. I'm new to indy car the same as McLaren is so maybe they not set him up optimally? I don't know
@@KXF41 I thought he was with the same team as last time, personnel-wise, as well as I also thought he was with Mclaren last time too? I'm away on vacation at the moment and cannot get any live links.
@@GUNNERSIGHTZEROED last year he was in a McLaren branded Andretti car this year I think it's a McLaren built car, he's 31st again now just had a bad run and running out of time, if he stays 33rd or above I think he gets another shot to qualify tomorrow, I'm new to this series though I maybe wrong
Is NBC trying to destroy or grow "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing"?? Back in '71,;72 we listened to local Philadelphia Radio KYW news , for local updates from the speedway in practice and qualifying. We had NO technology. Now here I am in Turin,Italy and all we get are 5 minutes or less clips of whats going on. Maybe I am crazy , but should they be Live Streaming everything when the cars are on track here in 2019? It is so very frustrating. I am a life long race fan. I have worked for CART, I have worked with many drivers and teams to raise funds with my original art for the RED CROSS and multiple charities world wide. My original art has hung in the IMS HOF Museum. But deep down I am just a race fan. It is really unthinkable that no one will ever even know anything about the Ïndy 500" in a few years. But this is what I see happening, if they do not grow the sport. I can still remember skipping school with my buddy in 1973,( as my Dad had taken us all to Pocono in '72), we stood in the rain, in the woods with our brown bag lunch, and a pocket sized battery transistor radio, and listened to the race! It was worth it. Now, here today, I am completely baffled.Heart broken,,, Can not even find radio coverage...... trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shite ,,,in nw Italy.
Same as F1, if you appreciate everything that is going on its definitely not, but also the same as F1, casual watchers are gonna say it's boring. I just tell people to get fucked...
@@Kawabongah92 I thought watching the practice was kinda scary rather than boring look how fast he's going. If he ends up wrecking Alonso can have a pretty high chance of ending up dying this Indy looks like a pretty dangerous sport. The last Indy car Death was in 2015. And They've have Indy car deaths scattered around the 2000's from the starting year of 2000 to 2015.
@@69houyt he said McLaren as in the team he didn't say the car, there are vast differences in aero and setup etc and the margins here are so small the field is so close. I'm new to this sport and even I know this. By calling the guy an idiot u just made an idiot of yourself
It's funny how F1 fans think of how exciting bravery-requiring corners like 130R are -- especially how exciting overtakes going into 130R are -- but then say Indy, which is basically 130R done 800 times, is somehow "boring".
He's flat on the gas but he's working the gears a lot which isn't a good sign. If he does manage to qualify, his car is going to break. Such a shame. Wish he would get away from McLaren.
It’s just so freakin fast, so fast! So much speed and power yet so precise and delicate almost. The margin between being P1 and P34 and out of the race is so tiny in qualy!
Hello People writing that Indy Car looks "boring af" or is "running in circles". Please bear the following in mind: - Any kind of closed circuit is "racing in a circle" - This is a snippet of the practise session - of course there isn't that much action - Racing on an oval is a complete different story than racing on a track like Spa, Monza etc because it has its own rules - The winner doesn't start on P1 - the winner is the one with the most skill, luck and best strategy - You can compare Oval racing with Endurance racing.. but without the right turns of course - This is only one of 17 races of this year's Indycar Season. I'd highly recommend to watch the other races as well
F1 cars look like boats. Way too long, ugly nose, weird shaped rear wing, front wing too wide, siedepods too slim, rake and that weird little shark fin on the engine cover. F1 cars haven't looked really good since 2007. Meanwhile the 2018 spec IndyCar is probably the most beautiful formula car of this century so far. Almost everything is perfect, looks fast and aggressive. Only thing that bothers me a little are those tiny rear wings on the superspeedway version.
Underrated comment in racing. So many haters who lack the open mindset that 30 plus streamlined race cars inches apart takes tremendous courage and bravery to do let alone master. " oval " racing has its fantastic racing as well as tracks with left/right turns in them. Driving race cars is NOT easy even if just going around and around in a " circle " because like Indy and the Indy Cars you have ZERO margin for error or your butt is immediately in the wall and or flying threw the air in somewhat cage.
It will probably be on sky f1 in the UK. In the U.S it will be on NBC sports network. Starts today Saturday at 5pm eastern qualifying day 1. And Sunday at 3PM eastern for day 2.
I feel Fernando should of tried a full time campaign in Indycar. I really think he could of won a championship there as well as Indy. Its great to see him come back to F1 one of my favorite drivers ever just feel that it may be wasted there with Alpine, just don't think they are going to be up to the job.
When you take into account the slight banking on the track and wind direction this line starts to make more sense. At 230 mph the cars interact with the walls aerodynamically.
@ On many occasions, the Indy 500 has been delayed or postponed to Monday. If they have half the race distance in, then they'll end it. Otherwise, if they can't finish on Sunday, they'll continue the race on Monday.
So many people comparing IndyCar to F1. Their both great series but two totally different cars. F1 cars are full of electronics and the latest engineering and technology makes them some of the nicest cars in the world. IndyCar you get 700hp and a seat and no power steering. Its takes balls to drive both. It takes grit to fight a car that that wants to kill you lap after lap. Especially at Indy. And driver that's ever raced their will tell you Indy is it's own beast. The moment you put rubber on that track it owns your card and you dont get it back. You can't outsmart, out run, or tame Indy. You sign a contract with your life and take a challenge that few will ever get rewarded for. That's why Indy is special. F1 has some of the nicest and most historical courses on the planet, but Indy is Indy. Anyone that's ever stepped foot in that facility can tell you it has a feeling about it. Its like a ancient battle ground for the racing gods. It gives you chills when you go through the gates. It's a crazy feeling. As a motorsports fans I enjoy all racing grassroots to f1 but their ain't nothing like the mystic of 33 drivers lined up ready to rock coming around the 4th turn knowing in 3 hrs they can be dead or become a legend and when that green flag drops out of turn 4 the thinking stops and instincts take over you drop the hammer and its balls to the walls for 250 laps side by side at 230mph in front of a half a million people on a track that has killed more drivers than its allowed to win it. Alonso is chasing immortality, give the man the respect that he deserves for that not the car hes driving
As someone who doesn’t watch/has never watched an Indy 500: Why does he go to the middle of the track one the straight parts? It doesn’t seem beneficial to me.
Because the car is designed to go left, it actually scrubs off speed to hold it straight. So it is beneficial to let the car be "free" down the straights, where it drifts left. Thus you're not scrubbing off any speed until you're about to enter the corner where you'll be losing speed anyway. If you watch videos from like the 1990s when the cars were faster and more aggressive, you actually can see black lines of rubber being left by the tyres down the straights!
Most racers in the world will not do this race as they fear the speeds and walls.. And you can see why. Super fast super speedway. Glad to see they have lowered the speeds over the years trying to keep it around 200mph . Also with the new wall absorption panels in the turns to help drivers survive any impacts is a plus. At one time average lap speeds were pushing 240mph. Fastest top speed ever recorded for F1 car was 231.5 Monza in a race. Fasted top speed for Indy car in a race was 256.9 or .33 Mach by Paul Tracy in Michigan.
Please get rid of Sportsnet’s Indycar TV deal for 2020 in Canada and let us be able to get the Indycar Pass for NBC Sports Net Gold in Canada! There’s so much coverage we miss in Canada and I’m sure as heck not paying an extra $20/month to the cable company to see the Indy 500 and Toronto Indy on Sportsnet World. Canada got screwed over so bad in 2019.
*_If he didn't shift down at the corners, he would hit 240mph and then the limiter would take the car to 234mph and even 227 if the driver decides to brake for more control_*
NOT being able to come this year ( August 2020 ) it brings a tear to watch this and to sense the thrill & the sound after sitting just across the track a little ways up from the PAGODA since 2012... BUT as I watched it here tonight, I asked the wife ( not that she was especially interested 😏 ) how would she like to drive 2 1/2 miles in 41 - 42 Seconds😁❓ I used to love to time one of them during the race on occasion to find out how quick it was to get around... It’s kind of fun to imagine what it might be like to drive from HOME to a particular intersection or place at that DISTANCE here at home in about 40 ➕seconds... Thats what I asked her 😁 I once had the opportunity to drive my VAN around KANSAS SPEEDWAY @ 60 mph With a bunch of other VANNERS while attending a large VAN CONVENTION... THAT was a total SCREAM😃 I can only imagine in my wildest dreams what it would feel like to drive one of these around INDY FULL TILT😢
I can understand if the steering wheel moves back and forth in the turns, after all I don't think they have any power steering. They being said, I wonder why the wheel keeps moving back and forth down the straight? Are the tires not balanced properly? Curious to know how this car compares to the one he crashed that was put together by McLaren?
FightingFalcon F1 had 4K since many years. Skysport is 20 years ahead. With tele+ had mosaic, aerial cam, onboard, outsider cam, live timing since 1997!
@@FloosWorld_AoE Yes but those oval racing is just accident waiting to happen, like this is main purpose. I like normal circuits with right and left turns (road course)
Because that's how Indy operates. It used to be that qualifying took four days over two weekends. It was that way for decades. Now they've shortened it down to basically one day of qualifications and "shootouts" for the final row and first three rows on a second day. And there was only four days of practice before qualifying instead of the traditional two weeks.
