What Alonso did in the 2012 season was unbelievable and will forever be remembered as one of the best championship season a driver has done without getting that title. He was a beast with a car that was no where near being a championship contender.
@@charlieg4258 Are you kidding me? Alonso wouldn't have even beat Kimi in 2018, even with Kimi's 4 DNFS. Seb is a FAR faster qualifier than Alonso. Seb is just being made to look terrible because Leclerc is the fastest F1 qualifier since Lewis/McLaren Kimi in F1. He is insanely quick and you guys are delusional or just brainwashed.
He was taken out in the first corner both at Spa and Suzuka... it would have been an epic championship win. But the main thing is, his relationship with Ferrari would have blossomed, and he would have won again in 2017 and 2018. It's always such a pity when a potential is unfulfilled, but still, what a great career and what a character!
@s43edsalehi Absolutely, every driver has lucky and unlucky moments in a season. But Vettel was actually quite lucky in Brazil: he made a bad start, was hit very hard by Senna and miraculously survived with a broken front wing. Whereas Alonso was wiped out on both occasions through no fault of his own. Not that it matters much now, does it?
@@aboredperson4202 Mate he had miles faster car. He could easily make up 25 points. Whereas Alonso had to fight against both Red Bulls, Mclarens and Lotus if he wants to even be on the podium
2 times world champion, 3 times runner-up, 3 times losing the championship by less than 4 points and never with a dominant car. He needed to go to WEC to found a dominant car, where he won everything. To those who says he complained a lot in his final years, I would like to see you if a team promises you to fight for the championship and you and your teammate (world champion too) end the season with 11 and 15 points. I would like to add that in his final F1 year, he did a 21-0 in qualyfing vs a second F1 year Vandoorne, which was the champion with most points gap to 2nd in the history of F2. You can think he is better or worse than other multiple champions, but you can't deny he outperformed the car in his whole career.
100% true. Fernando never had such a dominant car like Schumacher, Vettel or Lewis had in their careers. Come on Renault, let him fight for podiums and victories!!!
@@dahorn100011 Yeah everyone knows it was a 1 vs 1 championship. Just like F1 sometimes (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020). The main thing is he won against the best drivers out of F1. He challenge the win in his first race in an oval AND an indycar. This man is such a talent.
@@dani_dlr0079 I disagree. In f1 the rules are the same for other competitors. In the WEC the other cars by regulation were forced to be slower. Its like Lewis driving his f1 in an f2 race
when i was about 7 years old, i used to play f1 2006 on ps2 ... he was my favorite driver at that time, with his pace, age, and skill. I’ll love to see him on podium once again, or maybe a wdc.
Hamilton is far away den alonso their is no use coming back next year atleast Ricardo is getting podium dis year next year nothing I guess so sad 😂 for mr Renault
@s43edsalehi Mate Grosjean ended Alonso’s race which was totally Grosjean’s mistake. Senna’s incident with Vettel was because of Vettel’s poor start and it didn’t end Vettel’s race
@s43edsalehi Mate watch 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Alonso did the same and that too with that dog of a car Mclaren and not a dominant Red Bull despite losing 0.5 secs per lap
@@francescozizza6859 I think that you did well, just pur Fernando in front of Senna and put Hamilton, Vettel and Prost at the same place and that's perfect 😉
It's funny how he probably deserved the title in 2010 & '12, but when he actually won the title in '05 & '06 you could argue Kimi & Schumi deserved it more 😅
@@murphymoerf he also deserved 2007, and 2005 after the defence against Schumacher, he also deserved it. I would say the arguable one would be 2006, but still, Alonso not being at least a 4 times world champion is a shame, he deserves more

@@isn.indhra what's wrong with saudi? are you really asking? If you wanna see some people still execute on the street with sword you are welcome and dont forget if you are a woman you should cover your hair. and they never mention that saudia women just recently allowed to drive a car
@@isn.indhra there is no difference to china, russia, abu dhabi and bahrain, they are as controversial as each other, and the discussion always comes up when the races there are on. In the US and the rest of the race hosting countries, at least slavery isn't still basically legal and they let women vote and drive and wear what they want and travel where they want and go outside alone...
@@TheMrNotInTheMood ehhhhh all countries have a bad side to them, but saudi's case is a bit more extreme given the unequal human rights people have in that country, that's why even if china has a lot opression, it's not really all that comparable to saudi in that regard
@@walterwhite7 I just did. You guys are right public beheadings are still normal in these countries and I completely oppose such practices and any country that does that either publicly or privately. If we are going against Saudi GP, let's talk about Formula 1 itself its not like Oil is raining from heaven for the sport; its not like all the F1 sponsors aren't shady. Half of the sponsors have huge business in saudi and lets not pretend F1 is such Samaritan sport . Selective outcry highlights hypocrisy.
Purely on track, from Friday to Sunday he is maybe top 5 of all time, I would even rank him higher than Hamilton. Off track, however, he wasn’t able to get a team to gel around him like Schumacher, or be in the right place at the right time like Hamilton. Hopefully he can change that in 2021/22
@@kj48tiger I understand why they say it, though: perhaps Alonso couldn't bring a team to be around him or be at the best team, but what he did in most seasons shows the amount of skill he had (and perhaps still has). The fact that he found unexpected success in other motorsport competitions only reinforces this fact. Hamilton and Fernando in the Mercedes would've (obviously) been untenable, but it would've probably been the best same-team rivalry since Senna and Prost (and perhaps even of all time). Hamilton is great, no one can deny that, but I do share the opinion that skill-wise, Fernando is among the best to ever do it and ahead of Lewis.
@@thealiagator111 I read that a lot, from all his many detractors, about the team around him, but very few drivers have ever found themselves in long-term dominating teams like Hamilton, Vettel, Schumacher. It just doesn't happen often. Few teams have gelled so well and stayed at the top for those kinds of spells, we all know it's not easy to do. But, all these guys shone very brightly even as rookies, and I think that's how you are sure they are special talents, as that quote from Stoddart @0:38 mentions. These few are all living legends in my book, and Max these days shows the same kind of skill to basically always get 110% of what their car can do. I do rate Alonso very highly, a beast at the wheel day in, day out. But Lauda picked Hamilton for a reason. And the fact that Hamilton finished level on points with Alonso in 2007 on his rookie season tips the balance a bit, but I am more a fan of Alonso still. Go figure. I read somewhere that at some point before Vettel jumped from Toro-Rosso to RBR they were considering Alonso to partner with Webber. If that would have actually happened, who knows how many more titles he would have taken and how differently the world would look at him now.
@@thealiagator111 you know 2007 was Hamilton his rookie year.. Guess what he was Alonso his teammate and Hamilton won from Alonso getting 2nd in the WDC with 1 point behind Kimi the WDC... Ranking Alonso above Hamilton makes 0 sense
Imagine Fernando next year in a blue Renault/Alpine defeating Hamilton a 7 times world champion as he did back in 2005 against Michael ending years of mercedes dominance
He didn't beat Michael in 2005. He got lucky Kimi's car broke down in 2005 almost every race either in the lead or in Free Practice. Michael wasn't a part of the 2005 title fight you clueless fanboy. It Kimi vs Alonso. And Kimi was MUCH faster.
probably because you started watching f1 very recently. If you were watching in the early 00's he was like our Lewis before Lewis. he was a phenomenal breath of fresh air against MSC. No way you could have not liked him.
One of the best F1 drivers to ever do it. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the fact Alonso could extract the most out of any car he drove & his raw pace was simply sublime to watch. I seriously hope Renault can give him a car to compete with the likes of Mercedes & RBR next season.
As everyone has already said, his 2012 season was the best performance I had seen of any driver (regardless if he won the championship or not). Alonso never put a foot wrong all season long. He took mediocre cars that had no business winning and almost won the championship with them. It's no wonder that F1 team bosses named him 'Driver of the Year for 2012' (and 2010) despite Vettel winning the title. Alonso is just that rare mix of intelligence, aggression, confidence, charisma, and talent. His post-F1 career showed that he could switch racing formats seamlessly. He was stunning at LeMans, Daytona (it was like seeing a master at work in terrible rain despite the fact that it was only his second race at Daytona) and he even tried out rally coming in at 13th overall in the grueling Dakar Rally. This man deserved 3, 4, 5 titles to his name. Two just doesn't do his talent justice. So welcome back, Fernando and here's hoping Alpine delivers a car worthy of your talent.
always amazed by f1's great archive, still managing to find old footage, and more incredibly team radio from almost 2 decades ago! thats some awesome indexing.
@@MG-fc1zg Saudi Arabia is a dictatorship, which basically pushes against the whole "we race as one" campaign, F1 built up this year. In Saudi Arabia, equality still is a problem today.
In terms of skill Alonso is the best driver of all time. If only he had a better car at Ferrari and Mclaren. For me, not only my favourite driver ever but also the best. Cant wait to see him next year. Really hope he gets 3 podiums so he can reach the 100 podiums mark.
@@ciaronsmith4995 wow with Hamilton he tied at points in a year when he has all the pressures from his own team, with Ferrari he had a car that sometikes qualifyed 11 and won races fighting for the championship against the dominant red bull, like in Valencia 2012 wining with a bad car from 11 something crazy
@@SergioSanchez-sg1xv Dont worry, that guy is just shouting to everyone in the comment section how bad Alonso is, despite everyone, even pros, saying he is one of the best of all times
Come back dear Alonso. You are a fierce driver who can extract unimaginable things even from a worst car on the grid, which Lewis Hamilton or any other drivers on the current grid can't do. You are in the league of greatest drivers world has seen. Sorry Lewis is not there because he wins only in best cars
This is the reason I started watching F1. Nothing could make me happier than the third world title for Fernando Alonso. Renault/Alpine, please, I beg you, prepare everything wonderfully for 2022. You don't even need to give it the best car, just being two or three tenths below the best car, Fernando's magic will serve to win the championship as he has shown throughout his career. Blue and yellow car (L)
Some people grew up with Prost, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher, etc... I grew up with Alonso (mad respect to all drivers of course). So happy to see him back. It's like I'm still a kid watching him race.
I am supporter and BIG fan of Fernando Alonso since 2003. My grandfather and father, they liked Schumacher, but! ... When I was 9 year old boy and I saw him in the TV, just I started love this guy. In my opinion, he is FANTASTIC and one of THE GREATES Formula 1 driver and champion in the history of Formula 1. The fact, that he is only 2-times World Champion, it is bad luck. On Facebook in the every single comment section, I was writting, that Fernando made a mistake in 2018 and he should to come back to Formula 1. I am glad, that in the next season, I will see my favourite champion, again. :-)
He was the first driver I supported, when I started watching F1, when he was driving for Ferrari. Whichever car he drove, he gave it everything, taking his cars to places where it wouldn't be supposed to be. Can't wait for him to come back
@@vHiddenAce then 2011 proves hamilton was BS against Button... mate every driver has got ups and downs and what McLaren did with Alonso in favour of Hamilton was criminal...
This video rekindled my love for this great champion. Way short of what he could achieve in F1 purely down to bad luck/timing. I hope he comes back in the best shape of his career, and gets what he deserves - a chance to fight
This is a great summary video. Alonso is one champion who could have had way more than two championships. Despite all the opportunities to be in the best teams throughout his career, somehow things just did not work out for him. I wonder why...
@Javier Gorostidi-Turner Too small. Its currently FIA grade 2. Would require significant upgrades which no one is willing to pay for over here (African F1 fan over here).... there is simply no local promotor in SA who is willing to do it and the current track owners don't want to invest in the upgrades either. Sadly I can tell you categorically as a African motorsports fan that track aint coming back.
Alonso the insane driver, the undisputed legend of the f1 history , the solid man , which so imppssible competitor to break him with that eazzzzzy as u think❤❤
A true champion. There something to be said of true champions who have been through tough competitions at all levels, teaching them adversity, adaptation, conflict, and how to perform better. The same can be said of Vettel, Hamilton, Kimi, Mika, Schumi, etc......unfortunately Max didnt have this diversity and was rushed into F1 too early.
The only driver to have beaten Hamilton with the same car. Just that, only Alonso has been able to beat Hamilton. With Alonso at the same team, Hamilton didnt get 7 World Tittles, maybe 2 or 3 max. Doesn't matter he only got 2 WC, he's on Top 5 drivers of F1 history.
el 2do mas impresionante y completo race driver de todos los tiempos despues de Senna!! el numero de titulos no determina el poder real sin la ayuda del monoplaza.. puedes ser la mitad de bueno que Alonso y tener el mejor vehiculo just by luck.. if you dont believe me ask Hamilton about it!!
Sometimes i think, that maybe if he had stayed with ferrari for a few more seasons like 2017 or 2018 he finally scored his deserved 3rd Championship, i feel nostalgic when i think on it but then i feel happy when i remember that he's the only one who makes me remember the 2000's f1
U can hate him, but he will be remembered as one of many great drivers that win championship and drag sh*tbox cars to a point and even podium (and win) finishes
