I'm not even a mechanic and I would have looked at the ignition system first. It's almost always the culprit when it comes to misfires. If there was a leak in the intake system it would cause the car to run lean, not misfire. This mechanic is either trying to bill you for more money or is an amateur at best.
I really like you letting the mechanic explain how he goes to work, it makes the video insightful and informative. Maybe something like that with the exhaust fitting would be nice too?
*Personal preference of exhaust noises, most liked to least liked:* First - Custom (Was raw, as the 360 should sound, but bass-y enough to not sound too weak) Second - Capristo (Best for the price I would imagine, and had a throaty feel to it too) Third - CS/race (Ferrari noises are amazing, especially through the Challenge Stradalle, but too racy for a daily)
Use the Ferrari exhaust. My 430 went through six systems and none really worked for me .... until I came upon the super rare but official factory sports system which is heaven.
Glad you like the sound of the custom system it is a prototype made for me, the final system is underway will be ready in about six weeks I can't speak highly enough of the standard of work from zero exhausts. We are trying to achieve the purest f1 pitch without sounding to loud, nearly there...
That capristo would probably be the obvious choice to most, but it would probably drone and you'd get tired of it real quick. The CS is loud when needs to be, but also cuts out for some added stealth around the neighbourhood.
My 360 is now with these guys, after being at another Ferrari garage and after me paying out £16500 in repair bills to repair a problem with the f1 system. The problem is still there. AV engineering so far have been great!!! And I have high hopes that they will look after my 360 better than the other Ferrari garage.
When I heard that Capristo exhaust, I thought to myself, “Sam’s ninny if he doesn’t get this exhaust,” but then that CS exhaust, OMG! You’re right, definitely the best way to go. Cheers mate!
Interesting to hear what he all did to find the problem. I'm a mechanic as well and I know how annoying such issues are, but, for us, really satisfying when the problem has been found :) Its just that it can take quiet some time and can get expensive quickly.
What an interesting talk about the diagnostics process. My ultimate car is a 360M in Tour de France blue, ever since launch in '98. I was delighted when you bought a 360! Great video.
Where do you get 360 coil packs for 10 pounds? 30 is the best deal I could find. That was a ton of diagnostic work to find your faulty coils. That's the first thing I replaced when I had intermittent faults.
Love your passion Sam. Your the only youtuber I follow anymore. Though I do hate you now because You have me considering trading my 650S for another CS. I miss mine and that exhaust note. Keep up the stellar work!
That's the sort of video that i love to watch : really interesting and learn something with à specialist ! Go for the CS exhaust : it sounds amazing !!!!
Keep it up sam! Been watching regularly for over year now, love the content. No idea if you will read this - but if you do know that we appriciate it and please keep on film making!
Surprisingly, I liked the challenge straddle exhaust the least (and that's coming from a big CS fan). I personally liked the clean, trumpet-like sound of the Tubi the best. The custom exhaust was also nice as it was effectively a quiter version of the Capristo (which is just too loud).
Great video, really liked how the diagnostics process was gone through in full. Would have been easy to skip that part and just say what the end problem was, but I liked how you went through the steps. Also, I do agree, the CS exhaust sounds best.
Loved this video. Please do more videos of repairs in the future. The cost to fix this issue wasn’t any more Han it would have been for my Dodge Ram. Makes me wonder if parts for exotics are really that much higher than regular cars. Great vid!!
Great video, peppering in a few of these mechanical type ones broadens the content well. RU-vid is awash with exhaust swap & wrap videos, nice to have something different.
the whole debugging process was really interesting! I thought the ignition coils would be expensive just cause its a ferrari... but no, that's cool. the Race/CS exhaust is insane... you have to get it... that with the CS wheels will make it the almost "unicorn" that the CS manual is! Exciting! TBH Sam, you've renewed my love for the 360... underappreciated Gem!
Loving how the best looking modern Ferrari is belatedly getting the love it’s always deserved. Such a clean good looking handsome car, the last true sports car Ferrari made before chasing silly gear change speeds and daft 0-60 times.
Cheers for the comparison on the exhausts. I’ve just got the standard on mine as well, but nice to know what’s out there. Interesting video all round 👍
One of your best videos Sam. Interesting to hear about the diagnostics work involved (I work in a main dealer) however did the vehicle not come with a warranty as you've not had it long? I would keep the exhaust sensible, you have a classic car. I do look forward to the modifications. Take care
Hope they sound better in person. The Tubi and the CS sounded tinny. The Capristo sounded nice. But that bespoke exhaust sounded very good, strong, yet smooth and mellow at the same time. If it was a life car and not going to be sold/traded in the foreseeable future, custom. But as it will move on sooner or later, CS is probably the best option.
Sam your 360 needs new "transmission mount". Check how low your exhaust is sitting compared to the other 360's in this vid. That's the giveaway tale of worn transmission mount. Your exhaust pipes aren't "aligned" or center with the "holes" in the rear bumber, they're clearly hanging mate. Its easy job, one of those "know issues" of these. Lovely car, I have similar interior spec. Those options are *really* rare! Out of 170 or so 360's for sale at the "Mobile.de" (largest used car market place on Europe) only 3 had the carbon bucket seats AND factory roll bar.
That honestly isn't bad for plugs and coils, those parts cost about the same for my E60 BMW 530i (I just have to buy 2 less because inline-six). Also the CS exhaust really does sound the best IMO, keep enjoying the car!
Hi Sam. What were the plugs like when they were taken out. We're any of them oiled up? Also were they not all changed before collection? Also agree the CS exhaust has the best overall tone. Keep the great content coming.
Owning an old(er) Italian car is lot's of fun. Yet, the technical problems are something I have gotten used to. I drive a 1971 Lancia Fulvia (the one with the 1300cc v4). Last year I changed all the spark plugs. The car still ran beautifully. 350km later I lost all compression in the 3rd cilinder and the engine stopped running. A spark plug with a manufacturing error broke apart and found its way into the engine. In the process of doing so, it fucked up the cilinder head and required an entire engine overhaul to find and fix the issue.
nice enjoying part of your ferrari ownership i really looking forward more about how much the repair cost and every modification and your life with ferrari
