Makes me weep with flashbacks. My grandmother secretly sold her '72 two years and this brings back memories of my grandfather backing it out of the garage.
Juan, here's the Daytona that belonged to your late grandfather (my father) facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10215364364922242&set=pob.1229864628&type=3&theater
For me, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 - unofficially named Daytona - is the most beautiful car of all times. This by Pininfarina designed dream car keeps the perfect shape of an automobile, which can never be rivalled by any car anymore! Its V12 engine seems to be the perfect match, though I've never driven one for myself (Owned three M120 V12 from Mercedes-Benz which were phantastic, but no Ferrari yet). PS. The cadrage (Kameraführung) of this video has its charme, btw ;) THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
In the late 70s I remember a very sad and tired and unloved looking plexiglass Daytona ( red colour ) at the Halfway Garage on the A4 in England. It was just stored and not for sale . Hopefully that car was rescued and restored . I didn’t like plexiglass Daytona’s then. I’m much older now and hopefully a little wiser , I adore them now.
That’s well written ;-). Many Daytona's are still alive today. I also believe that these cars will all have to be restored in the near future. These are 50 years old and at some point you will not get past a restoration. This video is already 4 years old. Meanwhile the whole car has been completely restored. I should upload a video again. But I have all videos on Instagram. You can find all of my cars on: billi12481
Ferrari named this special car the Daytona after their 1-2-3 victory at Daytona 24H in 1967. It made Enzos day to see his famous P4 endurance racers humiliate Ford in their backyard just as Ford destroyed Ferrari at Le Mans the previous year.
The good old days when you had to exceed 80 mph to get our Daytona’s suspension to smooth out. No power steering . Gated shifter . 68 in first gear . Accelerated to 170 right off the showroom floor . We would put a pillow behind my wife so she could drive it It was raw speed in a straight line revving to the moon it seemed . Brakes and handling ? Not so great but Who cared ?
Nah - looks so messy and kit-car like with Plexi-glass and silver or black paint between the lights. The covers of the pop-up lights, partly-visible headlights angled backwards beneath them, and properly painted steel body-work with no sections of clear plastic and odd patches of different colours, just look so much better resolved and altogether classier. Still, each to their own.....
