An Italian v8 and a Japanese 4 or 6 cylinder sound completely different for reasons going way beyond a turbo. The main thing is the size of the cylinders and the angle of the V (if applicable)
This remains one of my all time favorite F40 videos ever produced. He gives an arid description of the driving and more importantly ownership experience. Relating it to a bike we can all relate too I believe that feeling of relief once it's gone well. What a legend he is for using his F40. Glorious!
I live locally to where that car is based so have been lucky enough to see it a few times on the road. Alway gives me goosebumps when it drives past, dream car right there 🤙
What a beast! There are very few cars as legendary as an F40, end of the analog era. I can fully relate to the fear/respect aspect of driving one. Those endless flames at about 10:40! Epic!
The Ferrari techs must nearly cry when they get a look at the ECU's in these things at service time and see that what most of them have done is just idle their way to car shows. Thank god the thing gets driven by an enthusiast who appreciates what he's got underneath him. Good to see. I was just a kid at the Sydney motor show when these came out. My uncle who took us bought us a scale model each. He also took us to watch qualifying at Bathurst when the Sierras were tearing it up. And so began my turbo problem...
The F40 doesn't have an OBD port, so no looking at the ECU, other than that, what you are saying is true with a few exceptions. We had a customer who had us build a race engine for his F40, he raced it in a Nevada event on Highway 95. He won the 1 mile sprint race against stiff competition, a Lola race car was second. I'll never forget test driving that car !
Thats the one car that every time the garage door opens it takes your breath away! The design and look will never get old! Plus price for these will only go up!
Great film, well made and authentic - I had a 360 CS, which was very special and got offered an F40 for 150k GBP. When I heard it needed a 30k GBP service I didn't have your balls to take it on. Massive regret, it was my dream car and still is...
So amazing that he's not afraid to drive it! He's more concerned with enjoying it vs keeping the miles down for resale, even though this gains in value 100000x more than the miles he's acquired
This is one of the best car videos I’ve seen on RU-vid since... well since RU-vid began. What a great guy and an absolute dream car. Best sounding one I’ve heard and there is just nothing that looks as good in the flesh. This and an orange McLaren F1 LM would be my dream garage.
among all F40´s Videos this one has the Best Sound and Audio Ever!!! @ 1:00 to 1:08, 3:45 to 3:53 and 4:05 to 4:10! How many here got the chills and watched it again and again and ... again??? I had the priviledge a few times to be at the passenger side in a yellow one in Friuli Region, Northern Italy. I have clicked the Like Nr. 3000 of your video ;)!!!
I first saw the F40 in 1987 when I was 7 years old and was blown away by it. I'm now 41 and I'm still blown away by it. The only Ferrari I would buy (if I had the money).
I love seeing people who actually drive these cars rather than lock them away for investment. There is one local to me and seeing it out driving just fills me with joy. I remember it launching in 1987 and at 9 years old nagging both my parents to take me to the Motor Show at Earls Court just to see it in person. I was not disappointed. Will always be the top of my lottery win garage list.
Well done John! At least you take yours out and let people see it and appreciate ! What a great move to just land home with it - Easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission ! You show the difference between an investor and a true enthusiast!!
When I moved to NW London 10 years ago, I saw an F40 driven by a Sikh guy and 10years on in 2020, I saw the same guy using his F40 in chiswick last week with a big cardboard box in the passenger seat? And between 2010 & 2020, I've seen him a couple of times on the Great west rd and in Norwood green garage, southall. Still looks Awesome, sounds good too.
Great, informative video. Lovely to see how much John appreciates and respects his F40. Definitely a wrench when the time comes sell it. Too much love gone into it. 😊
I'm glad Mr McGurk seems like such a decent chap. Jealousy compels me to want to hate anyone with an F40 and/or a performance car dealership! If any eccentric billionaires want to buy me an F40 I promise I will name it after you and put at least 5,000 miles on it every year driving some great Scottish roads...and I'll send you a Christmas card every year.
In my opinion, the F 40 is the greatest Ferrari ever made. I'd be satisfied if I could just see an F 40 in person. Owning one must be like winning the lottery every day.
Love the way you so accurately describe driving the car as "point and shoot" so true, lots of throttle control required when driving twisty roads. Was wondering what, if any, problems you've had with your F40 ? Some bell housings like to start gassing and results in clutch hydraulic failure, also the Weber fuel regulators fail over time and now are impossible to find. We have also had fuel tanks filled with debris from the materials that hold the fuel pumps disintegrating. Great video that brings back happy memories...
She's been pretty good to me. Fuel pumps failed and I had an electrical problem but that aside all good. I service it myself so every winter we stip the car and go over everything. I look after it as best I can, its all part of the journey for me. Best of luck to you.
Wow let me just thank you for sharing your experiences with this super legendary F40 car here wow. I so remember this car when it came on da seen in my younger days . Money car garage did a rebuild on one of these cars . This one here is amazing n ya story is priceless so thanks again
Amazing John, would love to own an F40 one day but unfortunately I will never earn that kind of money. I'm glad that people like you actually make the most of it though which is fantastic. Keep on enjoying!
Good man! Still love my 355 though, plus it still sounds pretty awesome when you give it around about 8500 revs! Keep it real, I am very jealous! Cheers from Neil in sunny Sevenoaks.
Last of its kind. Owner seems to really appreciate it too. There was a time when you could buy these when the price assumed that the future desirability of cars would be tightly linked to how fast they are. That turned out to be so wrong its laughable. $50k worth of modern sports car would probably spank this car on a track with equal drivers, but that doesn't matter at all to those who really get why the F40 is so desirable.
Awesome, amazing. Makes me want one even more but alas too much money. I spent a lot of time thinking what would be the modern equivalent that would be affordable to me now. Low volume circa 1000 cars, supercar manufacturer, adored by the press and public and i arrived at the 675LT. I think there are many parallels with the F40 and 675LT so i bought one as i think it will become sought after in the same way. If i suddenly find £1M under the sofa i will still be buying an F40 but the 675LT will stay too.
Need a buyers guide on the F40, it would be chaos. The most intriguing F40 that i know of is the Iraqi one, just a shame that many will be put away in collections never to be seen or driven
I was going 90MPH in a Nissan Maxima when an F40 passed me, needless to say i opened my door and i stepped out of my Maxima because i thought I wasn't moving.
I'd like to see a shootout between a supercar of this type and the Group B / later mountain race cars, like the Delta S4, that produce similar hp, but much less weight, or in general: a broader comparison, which cars deliver the broadest spectrum of speed, driveability and fun.
Great video thanks for making it cars beautiful and deserves a good owner,, made for each other,, wife's a one off as well ☘️☘️☘️☘️😁😁😁from Northern Ireland
It's one thing getting the funds together to buy a vintage Supercar but can you afford to run/maintain/own it? This one has probably quadrupled in value since he brought it but others don't.
