+Tommaso Martinelli To be totally honest. F40 was THE supercar of the 20th century. But THE supercar of the 21st century is the LFA (in my mind). The looks, the noise, performance, theater and the attention to detail are absolutely insane. Yes there are cars that do one or two of those things better... but none, that do all of them!
Chris Harris is the best British auto reporter! His reviews are precise, direct, adequate, he's not susceptible of being influenced by others, he gives a strait emphasis when it's needed!
I think these turbo charged cars just go to show how magnificently insane the McLaren F1 is, a naturally aspirated all analogue car that does 400 kmph in freaking 1993!!!
luca capozzi Ferrari got started by inheriting the entire Lancia F1 team and cars. True story few speak about. Lancia, Alfa were the beginning for Italian sport if you are interested in history.
488 and LaFerrari do NOT come close, at all. Notice how the F40 was 25 years old when this video was made and it still exceeds modern standards, that's its legacy for you, that's how far ahead of its time it was. If the LaFerrari and 488 are still being talked about and tested in 2040...we can talk about how it compares to the F40 then.
+narrowstairs0 I understand why you're saying that about the Enzo, but you gotta realize how in the grand scheme of things, it was the start of the massive downturn of Ferrari's design and supercar design in general. The sharp angles, the cut-up front, exposed taillights, etc - it was really the genesis of all these design cues that are so common nowadays and just look ugly. And making a car look bad so it can go like 15 mph faster..."aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines". The FXX and the other "track specials" are completely pointless, the point of Ferrari was to have something you can drive on the street and the track, in one car. A million and a half or whatever the FXX cost, for a track day toy, is completely pointless. IMO the LaFerrari is even worse, with its stupid name and ugly carbon fiber roof. Still way fallen from the grace of the F40 and F50.
@TtimWh I think most people watching would know what he meant by 'surge' in the context of power delivery. Which, as he said, is not ideal but is bloody exciting. Chris Harris does a consistently great job at transmitting the 'feel' of the car in his reviews without any of us being able to actually feel it. Brilliant reviewer and a great writer as well.
I did buy and read every inch of this magazine! And i thought it was awsome, but now i can see the video with the god that is Chris Harris i wish EVO had a TV show
Porsche: best look, great feeling Ferrari: F40 = Racingcar ur allowed to use on the road Jagur: no offence but it looks weird Noble: never seen that car before ;)
The noble gives you that amazing feeling of pushing the Peddle to the floor and a few seconds go by of slowing speeding up then all of a sudden the front end lifts up and your pushed back in your seat as the v8 roars to life accelerating you down the rd
Noble is one of the best modern supercars in terms of driving satisfaction. It's so light, powerful, and that turbo lag.. too bad many thinks its a "Noname and nolooker" and keep forgeting what's under the bonnet. but i guess that makes car enthusiasts/drivers different from casual drivers
Getting to drive the Porsche GT2RS? Doable. Getting to drive the Noble M600? A little harder, but possible. But getting to drive the Jaguar XJ220? AND the Ferrari F40? ALL IN THE SAME SHOW??? That. That is just incredible. You are a lucky man and do a good job. I enjoy the show.
I still think the XJ220 is the most beautiful looking of any of the cars there - probably the most sensuous looking car ever made on a production line.
I'm glad Chris Harris is back. But I'd like to see a more critical review of a comparison between two cars rather than a quick 6 minute blurb on 4 cars. He's done better than this before. Maybe a comparison between the GT2RS and the F40 on the road and track.
The M600 here got 650hp. It's already more than silly enough. Yet now that exact car (M600RHD) got 740hp. And spits flame in every shifts and overruns.
Not even a competition, different animals. McLaren F1 was ahead of its time and was the worlds fastest car. It was never known for spectacular handling or driving experience. The F40 is regarded so highly because of its amazing driving experience, feel. Nothing compares to its feeling, it is the epitome of driving. Only cars people say that have come close, some say surpass are: Ferrar 458, Lexus LFA, Ferrari F12. 30 years, & three cars have earned the comparison.
