FERRARI FF Family Practicality Test & Why You'll Regret NOT Owning One

Very cool to see the process of how you make these videos, definitely a lot more work goes into it than I had previously thought. I think with your positive attitude and work ethic, along with your unique twist on the traditional car review, the #Dadcars channel is destined for great things and in turn, a shiny Ferrari FF on the driveway! Some eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed some modifications to this FF. They are: Lowered 15-20mm all round on the stock, adjustable coilovers 15mm Hill Engineering wheel spacers and extended bolts Novitech valved exhaust back boxes Capristo X-Pipe Forza valve controller Pioneer SPH-EVO64DAB Headunit with wireless Carplay / Android Auto

They say that Ferrari sells you an engine, the car comes with it for free. The lack of 2nd hand prices is kind of shame, but great for anyone who wants a great V12 and a semi-practical vehicle. In terms of speed, it'll be slower than an M5, more difficult to drive than an M5, be less reliable than an M5, drink more fuel than an M5, be less practical than an M5, but it'll give you smiles more than any M5 could.

Had one for 4 years. Loved it. Novitec back boxes, Capristo remote valved X-pipe and it's complete. Loved every minute, now seeking a V12 Lusso. A couple of things....they are very sensitive to battery voltage so if the warnings come on for 4wd etc, just switch it off and restart. The trickle charger socket was updated in 2013 and then the Lusso has it on the outside, above the number plate and you can retrofit either connection. The PTU issue is well tracked on FerrariChat and seems to affect around 10% of cars, so too many but not as many as the reputation suggests. It's a bit like the Porsche 997 liner issue, too many but then you only hear about the problem cars. I did about 15k miles in 4 years, Le Mans, around Europe, North Coast 500 etc. Epic miles, every one of them. From late 2013, there were some updates and the trickle charger location is one of the clues. Like all low production cars, they get better through their life cycle so buy the latest one you can. Very late cars got Car Play but you can retrofit that headunit or change to an aftermarket one, like the owner of the test car has done. I was lucky enough to be inside the 7 year service pack but expenses on top in my ownership where a set fo Michelin PS4S, PPF on the front, an odd issue with the fuel filler neck that wasn;t under warranty for some mad reason (cost £700 to sort) and I optionally had it rustproofed and spent £5k on exhaust mods. The only thing it doesn't tell you on the computer is the MPG, and it isn't because they forgot to add that function! I can tell you on a leg of the North Coast 500 with a friend in a Pista, we filled up together and my car had used about 25% more fuel. But who cares!

This video convinced me to get an FF without even driving one myself and it was the right choice. Love this car.

Proper motor !! I have always loved the look of these , I find the smaller v8 Ferraris a bit on the vulgar side . This is a proper Ferrari ,big v12 upfront , love it 👍🏻

Dear Ben, great presentation of the Ferrari FF! I can confirm everything you say about it. I tested the F12 and the FF - and the FF won my heart. For me the FF is one of the greatest cars ever made. The combination of talents is just unbeatable. I am obsessed with it - I have two of those now in different colours. One can only understand and appreciate this car after having driven and tested it. I hope you find a nice example for yourself and your cute little family soon - and go for that road trip around europe!

I've had mine just over a year and it is truely the best Ferrari ever. Instead of the lonely 2 seater ferrari i had for twenty years i can now share the passion with my family and friends. Its so comfortable and a weapon when you want it to be.. plus it still trumps nearly every other car out there.. you'll never regret owning one..

Oh man a real high point in motoring. It’s so sad that the 4 seaters now are all SUVs. Sports cars should always be low down or what’s the point. Great review, I’ve personally never been big into Ferrari but listening to that noise and seeing that practicality is making me reconsider! (Not that I can afford it anyway haha)

Great review! You've earned yourself a new subscriber. 🙂 Not sure if you are willing to consider older dadcars, but if you are, check out the Ferrari Mondial, especially the 3.2, 3.4, and T variety. These have better corrosion protection than the original Mondial 8. Enzo-era design, and Pinifarina styling. Mid-engine, Ferrari V8 with a gated 5-speed (and a true manual gearbox, not the modern "manual" with flappy plastic bits). Best of all for a dad car... 4 seats. Car seats would fit easily in the cabrio models, but I'm not sure about the coupe. Enjoy your family time. They grow up so fast!

Great video and well timed for me. I sold my E63s after 4 years and 70k miles last year and the only car I keep considering is an FF, and I’m now in a position to take the plunge. As a single dad to a toddler myself, this video was Way more informative to me than anything else out there especially with how much room is shown when a large isofix seat is fitted. The owners car is spec heaven by the way and the subtle mods just make it perfect (owner if you ever consider selling please let me know). The issue with the FF is the ‘pool’ of cars is tiny as owners tend to hang onto them for good reason coupled with small production numbers (circa 300 in the UK). And off subject slightly, but you strike me as a genuinely nice guy - you’re very respectful of other peoples cars you test and we can sense the genuine enthusiasm and excitement on each car you drive, but of all else - you strike me as an absolutely top dad. You remind me of me - My daughter is my life and she follows me everywhere. The fact your daughter joins you on these videos is something you’ll both cherish forever, its very heart warming to watch you both enjoy a car together. Subscribed.. and I look forward to more content from you both!

Knew it had to be the FF from the Instragram post you made. The four-seat Ferrari's have always been the odd-ducks that make the best 2nd-hand-purchase; the 456, the 612 and the FF all got poo-pooed and are now the best choice to buy. I saw a headline somewhere not so long ago calling the 612 the best value Ferrari you can buy (possibly a little click-bait-y but it's long way from the comments about it when new). As for the looks, I thought it looked gorgeous at launch, and owning the "fastest hatchback in the world" sounds bloody cool to me! And is an absolute DadCar; it has isofix points for crying out loud!

It’s still a £100k car that weighs nearly 2 ton….with high runnings costs. It just doesn’t make sense to me, even with that amazing sound track. You could have 2 great cars for the same price. If a car makes you that worried when overtaking or putting a car seat in then what’s the point. The funnest car is the one you don’t have to worry about.

As always, I'm extremely jealous of you jumping in all these gorgeous cars. However, my circumstances dictate a much more humble alternative. As my kids are now grown up, I don't need a four seater, so I'm going for a coupe which is as cheap as chips to run, tax and insure with diesel levels of economy as well as really good reliability. Pretty rare in the UK as well, because only 4,300 of these were sold in the UK over 6 years. The car in question? A Honda CRZ.

I own an FF and run it as a daily driver. I average around 200 miles a week and that's usually a tank per week of just running around which is circa 12mpg. On a run (I regularly do Kent to Norfolk and back) I'll get 320-350 miles on a tank. That's more like 18-20 mpg. If I'm not using it for a few days I hook it up to a Ctek charger and it remains happy. If I forget for any reason it does like to throw an electrical tantrum which sorts itself out the moment the battery is back up to full charge. Just consider the battery a consumable and put a new one in every couple of years.

Ben - great video, your enthusiasm was undeniable and your sound effects were almost as good as the roar of that V12. I've never been into Ferraris - too much 'hey - look at me' shouty, but a Ferrari hatchback that sounds and goes as well as that has changed my opinion. Trouble is, every car you test has me changing my goals and I am already over my limit - so just stop it there 😂. Keep doing what you are doing as I can hear every cell of your body shouting "get me one of those! Now!!" one day, you will have one. Matthew

I was an Aston Fan until one day I drove an F12 and a FF. Your right drive like a 4 seater formula one car, handle brilliantly due to 4 wheel drive . Only have had Ferrari's since best cars on the road, the pan roof makes it even more special. Makes Porches feel like VW's

Very good video, Ben. The FF, such a great car - and those looks...incredible. Good advice on the servicing too. I've always thought that instead of warranty, to save instead. If the work needs doing you have the cash. If it doesn't, you still have the cash. Win/win!

Just watched the your post and thought it was great. I have two children at 7 and 3 (4 in a a few weeks). As a weekend dad car this is awesome, Ferrari, V12, 4 seats and very, very cool. However, there is also another to car to consider. And that is the Jaguar Project 8. 300 made, 600bhp, 4x4, Bilstien dampers and rose joints. It’s a left hooker only so in the UK an issue. But for the European camping holiday a Q car and a weapon. Thoughts please…..,
