They need to start putting halo’s on the pit crew now

Apparently the wheel gun was set to tighten not remove. For the light to go green the system checks if the wheel is tight as that would be the new wheel has been fitted. As the wheel was never removed the nut was still tight making the system think that it had been replaced giving Kimi the green light.

For anyone that didnt hear me well enough: the electronic device didnt read the situation correctly and put on green. Sorry for my quiet voice. I wont say sorry for my beautiful accent though, haters gonna hate.

I mean if I ever got into a weird situation where someone told me I was gonna break my leg but I get to choose how I do so, this would be near the top of my list

An easy fix can be adding a double check system on the wheel gun where the switch has to be pressed (the one that changes direction of the screw) and then measures a surge in torque; When both requirements are met, the system will check as the tire has been switched.

I remember a guy used to turn a long "lollipop" like sign from stop to go or something like that.. then again, I haven't watched F-1 in recent years. Similar accidents happened back then too, tho.

Light is making problems with drivers who get green light. But that makes exciting that if somebody makes mistakes. But there can always things like this!

All of this never would've if the lollipop was still there.

Arrivabene mentions a procedure in the pit stop they needed to change; he said they "went through the procedure to make sure it won't happen again". Maybe they just meant crew members did something incorrectly because before that he said it was "a mishandling of the rear left; [it] was not perfectly read by the electronic device which gave the green light".

TL:DR for Arrivabene part: Rear tyre had a misangling issue, causing tyre to be stucked. Electronics didn't read the torque gun properly, hence the greenlight and the chaos that ensues. He's working with FIA on this.

A manual signal, like an actual person holding a flag, would probably be better because he can supervise the pit stop whereas sensors may not have the same reliability.

At 1:07 there are two big sparks that come from the rear left. I wonder if the mechanic with the gun didn't engage the gun fully on the wheel nut? Therefore, the wheel didn't come off?

When you hear that Arrivabene explained it in the press conference you immediately know you’re not going to get an explanation. Why did the green light go off? How has it been resolved?

This could have been a Kevin Ward Jr incident maybe if Kimi has been going faster or if the mechanic had been further under the car or had worse luck.

What needs to happen is 4 men have a push button, and each man watches each wheel mechanic, as soon as they see the mechanic raise their arm the person pushes his/her button, but only when all 4 have pressed their button can the light turn green.

I have always felt that F1 pit stops were a joke because of the number of men over the wall. Three men on each wheel as well as two jackmen and others? With that many people over the wall for each car, it's a wonder that pitmen are NOT being run over at every event. F1 should take a hint from NASCAR in this regard, who this year reduced the number of men over the wall from six down to five. This was done to reduce the number of people over the wall and therefore reduce the probability that a pit crew member would be struck by his own or another vehicle. So, by comparison, the number of pit crew involved in an F1 stop compared to a NASCAR stop is ridiculous. F1 should drastically reduce the size of the pit crews. Who cares if the stops take longer? What difference would it make?

Does anyone know if the hubs have changed? 3 separate teams with the same issues in as many races...could it be design problem?

Personally i dont want to see the reimplemention of the Lollypop man because i think it would be a knee-jerk reaction to the rescent accidents. Remember that we have not had any major issues with the current "traffic light" system before and during the time pf the Lollypop man issues still occured

Hopefully they didn't wrap his cast too thick! They did that to me because i told them i was going to be traveling... I got an X-Ray 6 months later and the weight of the cast was pulling down so much that it didn't heal any bones at all.
