My Dad served in the same Regiment The 3rd Carabiniers as Lt Disley at this time in Detmold. He was in C Sqn.

How many and what type of aircraft did a typical Recce Regt have? I am suprised that a regiment had its own air wing.

@@simonyip5978 We were not a Recce Regiment,. We were a main battle tank regiment and at that time had our own Recce SQN ( and even our own transport vehicles) The airwing attached to Recce Sqn had one fixed wing Lysander and one Helicopter. it even had RAF personnel who were attached to us. Of Course this was during the cold war when the British Army had at its height over 300, 000 soldiers stationed in Germany alone. Changed days eh! Keep Safe.

In Omagh '77 (9/12L) I blagged some AFGAS from the AAC. My Ferret went like the clappers, with the exhaust glowing silencer glowing red.

My dad was in 9/12 Lancers in Osnabruck in 1967(Sgt Eric Still)though he was in centurion tanks then.We used to have a picture of him in the turret of a scout car similar to this in Cyprus in late 1950s

same with the FV433 Abbot. they broke down every 10 miles lol. they should of been replaced years before by something more modern as they were designed in the late 40's and it was 1980. But they were still more reliable than the M107, M109 and M110 r heavy battery used. We hated the FV433 we wanted r light guns back, we lost r airbourne status when we got moved to germany and given the 433. Steering went on the 1 i was in and all were heard was lots of scraping and crashing. when we evenutaly managed to stop and got out we saw a long line of lamp posts that we had flattened lol. tiller cable snapped so couldnt steer or brake. R.E.M.E had to use a FV 438 to get in front of us to stop us by letting us crash into the back of them then use their brakes to stop us. we had to drive from Dortmund to Sennelaga and none of the regiment got there under their own power. R.E.M.E had its work cut out with all the repairs and having to bring in transports to get us to the training ground. r MK1 centurion from 1944 drove it with no probs though. we used that for r obersvers to give them protection minus the gun. Think i liked Norway better even though it was -40c. at least we had r light guns there and Volvo BV 202's to tow them.

The Stalwarts were famous for doing that as they would shoot a flame about ten feet away but with their exhaust were so high they never caused any damage to other vehicles. But when the drivers that were behind would soon move back away from the backend of it though

I was in Augsburg, 24th Division HQ, 66-68. Looking back, those years seem carefree. But there were some tense moments. The Six-Day War in 1967 found half the division sitting at the airport, ready to go. Got to visit Berlin while I was there, too. Saw lots of German soldiers, mostly Gerbirgjagers, but no British. My son was also there as a tank crewman, stationed in Freiberg, I think. Even my son-in-law was there but he was in the Air Force.

I'd rather watch paint dry than Old Lady May, but Hamster and Jezza are entertaining.

Indeed and very sad. The 3rd Carabiniers amalgamated with The Royal Scots Greys in 1971 to become The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers were amalgamated with The Royal Fusiliers, The Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers in 1968 to become The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. All these great County Regiments of Cavalry & Infantry gone, they did the same to my Regiment The Royal Welch Fusiliers. They amalgamated us with the Royal Regiment of Wales in 2006 to become The Royal Welsh after 317 Years of Service to the Crown and one of only Five Infantry Regiments at the time never to have been Amalgamated in its history. The MoD, Politicians & Top Brass don’t care about Tradition, The Regimental Family or History as long as their targets are met. Bastards!!

My Father’s regiment, 4th Queens Own Hussars, amalgamated with the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars to become the Queens Royal Irish Hussars, which was my regiment, has amalgamated with the Queens Own Hussars to become the 437th Heavy Regiment, The Cheslin Hay Girl Guides!!! ( Some of this post may be Bull Shiet!!!)

It has 2 small "jumpseats" facing each other on the sides of the hull in the turret area. Don't think they were used often in that configuration.

Why would they do that? The cold war was happening and you don't honour your enemies dead,not in my books, get real they're commie murderers, doesn't matter whether they were allies in ww11 they are the enemy,fool.
