Great vid!! My ferrets are kept in a huge chicken coop, with all the ferret mod-cons! Everyday the living room is a ferret playground! My oh my the mischief they cause!! They adore my Rottie and he adores them. They are wonderful pets, but the trouble they get into makes them very high maintenance, hence my ferrets being called Pixie, Chaos & Mayhem! They lift your spirits and indulge your sense of humour! You just gotta love 'em!!
They don't mind a cage if you make it comfortable for them. They like hammocks, enclosed beds, and toys in the cage. They do need to come out some every day. They are very playful and remain so even as they grow old. They are not happy, even depressed, if they are kept shut up in a cage all the time. They need the human interaction to be happy ferrets! If you don't have the time to play with them every day, you probably shouldn't have a ferret right now.
I agree! I have three and I groom out of my house and my customers are always shocked to find out that I have Ferrets at all let alone three. I bath them regularly and clean thier cage weekly and they are really close to my kitchen and they don't bother us at all.
Ferrets are amazing escape artists, and they will find their way into any place they want to go, which could be somewhere that they may get hurt. They can squeeze under a closed door if they can get their head through. They will probably not sleep on the couch - maybe under the cushions, in the springs, up inside the back of the couch. They get inside things and often cannot be readily seen. You may sit or step on them before you see them. I think they need a cage for their safety.
i just got a ferret yesterday and shes a hyped up little thing lol. jumping all over the place, and crawling threw the sleeves in my shirt. i had to let her run around in the kitchen over night so i could get some sleep because she was biting at the bars on her cage wanting out lol.
Depends on where you live. They cannot tolerate the heat. They are perfectly happy inside, provided you allow them some run and play time out of the cage every day.
aww so cute i did that with my ferrets a put them a big tube and they slid down it. one ferret would stand at the end and anoother would run down the pipe. the one at the end started wagging its tail. :)
@OzoneLaiyarr the reason your ferret open/opened its mouth is because you were scruffing it. The back of their neck, there is a loose flap of skin their mother uses to hold them. They automatically yawn when you scruff them, good way to get them off if they bite too hard in play.
@tnielsenhayden You are absolutely right. A ferret is NOT a pet to buy on a whim! Besides the things you mentioned, they are VERY social animals and demand a lot of your time. It would be cruel to put them in a cage and leave them there. Food and water IS NOT enough!!
Oh my goodness have some ferrets!! They are sooo cute, I just got a kit a couple weeks ago, and I'm looking to get another so she has some ferret companionship.. dk if I could deal with that many though!! I love this video!
That means she isn't getting enough time out i would HIGHLY recomend you go back wih her and buy one more.. we had to do that with our first ferret, she can have someone to play with ;)
@OzoneLaiyarr Every spring, the ferret will shed out his fluffy winter coat, and grow a sleeker new one. In the fall, the summer coat is changed for a winter one. Hair loss can, however, be caused by an adrenal tumor. Weight loss, hair loss - especially at the base of the tail, feet and abdomen, and excessive scratching, are often the only early signs of adrenal disease. They may be lethargic, have a loss of appetite, increased thirst and urination. If so, have your vet check your ferret!
my ferrets don't steal witch is surprising although they do like to hide their toys. btw love the video, its like a woozle paradise. I could die and go to heaven! :D
Okay. Before you decide to get a ferret, watch a lot of ferret videos on RU-vid. You'll learn that they can open doors, climb up the side of a brick wall, and open drawers from the inside. Search on "ferret stealing." Notice that they can steal and hide car keys, passports, wallets, electronic gear, and every sock you own. These are demanding, high-maintenance pets. They don't adapt to you. You adapt to them. Are you prepared to live with that?
I'm sure they are very happy without the restrictions of a cage. The cage is for their safety more than anything else. Those guys can get into a lot of things - some things that can hurt them. It's wise to be around when they are out. It would be terrible to come home and find one of them in a bad way b/c you weren't there to help them. They can get themselves into trouble right before your eyes. I'd be afraid for them to be running loose all the time. Have you ferret-proofed your house?
@OzoneLaiyarr when you scruff the back of their neck, it relaxes them or something and they all yawn :) it's cute. good to do when you need them to stay still and clean their ears or something. if you see patches of no hair, it might have adrenal...hopefully it's just shedding :)
we get her out alot actualy. she gets alot of attention. we get her out and let her run around and play 6 hours per day. and she likes to play with my little dog daisy so shes socializing with other animals. i guess she was biting at her cage because it was her first time going in it and she wasn't used to it yet.
i read thu all of the comments, i too would like to know where you got that wheel from.. i tried a large rat one and my ferret didnt fit.... :'( it looks like you made this one with sticky sanpaper and a pant pot? i just cant see the back.. thanks for your time and help.. love the fuzzies... im going to have to get a clear tub now.. looks like they have fun with it
@OzoneLaiyarr you are scruffing your ferret, the mother does it when the do something wrong. When he opens his mouth he lets you know that you are superior to him. he's not hurting when you do it, so dont worry. Scruffing is considered by some people to be a very harsh way of punishing ferrets, but i dont see it ti be ahrmful, because its the way the mother teaches her babies what ok and not ok.
@tnielsenhayden And don't forget the chewing! Oy!! Whatever they can sink their teeth into and then some. The toe nipping drove me crazy. But, they are so damn cute. I've had four. They are a lot of work and even the descented one stink. I like the smell, but my friends didn't.
@awkfleabag yeah but too bad there are people out there who do keep them in a cage 24/7. I was gonna buy a somewhat older pair before i got my two little ones. The lady she didnt have "enough" time for them. but she never contacted us back :( i feel sorry for those two :(
I was along for the ride until the music and lyrics kicked in. Then my PC got peeved, slapped me across the face with the keyboard, spit in my hair and then exploded. = /
