Ferret Proofing my Bookshelf so my Ferrets Stop KNOCKING THINGS OFF OF IT 

Dig boxes can be filled with lots of different things besides rice: uncooked macaroni noodles, uncooked kidney beans, biodegradable packing peanuts, pingpong balls, substrate, and dirt! Not all of them work for every ferret (my girls pooped in kidney beans so I can't use those), it all depends on your ferrets and how they react to things. If you're using dirt, make sure it's 100% organic with no added fertilizers or anything artificial. My favourite thing I've used is substrate (though it's a bit messy so be ready for that). If you don’t plan on bringing them outside frequently and don’t often come into contact with other animals, or live in a densely populated area or areas with lots of wildlife you’re likely ok with not vaccinating them. I vaccinated all of my ferrets except my super senior adrenal girl rescue because I genuinely don’t know how much longer she’ll hold on, and she gets scared when I’ve tried to bring her outside and doesn’t seem to like it. I would say if you do get your fur baby vaccinated, then make sure to get shots done two weeks apart, make sure the vet knows the deal with ferrets and what potential signs to look for for reactions, stay 20 to 30 mins after to watch for them and you should be good. @@KamiKitty1 similar situation here! my one ferret, Clyde is around 7 years old and im really scared to get her vaccined, but also scared of the possibility of her getting distemper via open windows, clothes, dogs fur, toys, etc.

Vaccinating ferrets is something that's super up to individual comfort and lifestyle! I'm very pro vaccinating ferrets, because distemper is something that can be tracked home on clothing and is fatal to ferrets, but not everyone feels that way. The most important thing is to have a vet that's knowledgeable on vaccines (make sure they premed, wait 2 weeks between each vaccine, and have you stay after to keep an eye on any possible reactions). I would talk to your vet about your concerns and see what they have to say. A few years ago I was skeptical about vaccines, but after a long conversation with my current vet she made me realize that it was the best for my girls to be vaccinated. I vaccinate all of my girls except Nova, because Nova is 7 years old now and she's already on a twice daily medication, and a monthly steriod injection. Both my vet and I agreed it would be better not to vaccinate her, but again that's just the opinion of my individual vet. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you're aware of the risks and talk to your vet

@@FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets what vaccines? Mine are not . But I do have dogs . Not in same area but within air flow . Just distemper ?

@@cathyjerome1662 Rabies and distemper are the ones normally given to ferrets.
