FERRY FIASCO: Anger as Ardrossan harbour work STILL not started meaning new ferries CAN'T use it

The Debate is 8 years too late. Even without LNG bunkering, Ardrossan could never take either new ‘Glen’ Ferry,because Calmac/CMAL idiotically designed supersized ships that couldn’t fit the existing berths. Rather than a feasibility study in 2016, they needed to start building an upgrade immediately (it’s a minimum 21 month build) in order for it to be ready for delivery of the Glenn Sannox in 2018. After years of bickering, especially about who is going to pay, the Minister announced a review last year because it was too expensive at £42m. Meanwhile Peel Ports haven’t Invested, resulting in the Irish berth, which could take MV Alfred being decommissioned permanently. At no stage has any transport minister cracked heads together and made things happen at Ardrossan, after all Transport for Scotland is part of the talking heads. Even if Ardrossan is upgraded, local businesses are going to suffer for years when there is absolutely no ferry traffic.

What a load of hot air in the empty waste of of space. Just do something and stop blaming everyone else. 💩🐷🧙🏻‍♀️🐀

Agree Ardrossan- Brodick is shortest but is Ardrossan so heavily dependant on this service . I drive through Ardrossan to get to port, I’ve never spent any money there , and I suspect t others do the same . It is a farce though . Is it Ardrossan or Troon ?

Scrap Ardrossan harbour and build a new public pier at Horse Island. This will reduce the journey time and be more reliable in poor weather. Avoids the hassle of privatising Ardrossan harbour and gets car directly into the A78 without the need to drive right through the town.

Even the snidey Presiding Officer fails to show up for work nowadays. Place is a joke - close it down .

No comment from Peel Ports who also own Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. Could this not be some form of Community buy out. Last thing you want is nationalisation as history will tell us that would be a costly disaster.

Campbeltown has had no ferry service to Ayrshire in 2024 hitting the town's economy at a time when tourism should be growing with whisky distilleries and golf courses key local assets. Why is Argyll and Bute's MSP nowhere to be seen when her constituents are so negatively affected?

You shouldn't keep blaming these people, they're politicians, they've been trained to waffle, most of them are good at it , some are very very good at it and you keep voting for them.
