It is especially developed in terms of tourism . Its population in 2022 was 177,702. It is the largest district of Muğla. It was the district with the largest surface area of the province until 2013, when Seydikemer, which was previously affiliated to this district, became a district. It is also larger than Muğla center and other districts in terms of population density.
