Christ that must have been a very special screwdriver in it's day to deserve that amount of "mucking about"😮. I can appreciate that not everyone has access to new tools etc' so it's lucky he had a hot glue shop just up the road😊
"Mind = blown! I never would have thought glue sticks could be used like this. This video opened my eyes to a whole new world of DIY possibilities. Thanks for the enlightening content!"

I personally would have used a hot glue gun in conjunction with a heat gun. I would have wrapped the non-handle side with a cloth. Then while spinning the rod with one hand & adjusting the angle I would apply layers of glue. In a glass blowing fashion I would mold the shape of my handle. Id use the heat gun to reheat a whole area of the handle which will make the surface smooth as glass. You can also quick cool in a tall cup or tub of water. Using this method you can add different types of glues in whatever order you like giving you a nice layered effect. The smoother the surface cools the more transparent it will be when completely cooled. Its a very fun and cheap material to craft with. I've been using hot glue for all kinds of crafts for years! It all comes down to controlling heat and using gravity to your advantage.
Baking soda is great with all types of glues, you just have to test it with different glues to find out the results. You will be surprised which work and which don't. 👍🇮🇪💚🙏🏼
I have rheumatoid arthritis and just to be able to make the handle just right for my hands will be something I will be doing from now on. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Very clever 👏 👌
Compared to the cost of silicon and chisels and the effort put in, it's actually several times better than buying a new one. It's still good, but you also created a video to get attention. It's great. Wishing you continued success.
I’ve considered doing something similar to make a replacement handle, but with melted down HDPE instead. However, sanding it down to smooth it out creates even more microplastics, which I’m not eager to contribute to as there is so much in our environment and bodies already, so if I do, maybe I’ll mold it by hand instead. I do love finding more uses for things that would otherwise be thrown into the landfill and repairing things with what’s already at hand.
Yes. Always carry a whole lot of glue sticks, a metal bucket, moulding sand and a paraffin heater in the back of your car. Then you'll be ready for a while lot of automotive disasters!
Where the hell do u buy ur glues sticks? A pack of 20 cost like an euro(less than 1$) over here. Looks like ur bent over grabbing ur ankles, paying 9 $ 😂😂
Excellent idea I love it and have several chisels I need to do myself thanks for sharing. On a side note you could also add food colouring if you want to be fancy 😊
Sig Wong 2 part epoxy resin. If you're able to invest in glue sticks and see this, get the resin instead. this is accidentally a neat little molding course fit with a mold box and all haha well done. hot glue dried doesn't come even close to how hard a 2 part epoxy is. I love the recycled tool use though.
This would be better aimed at making easy grasping handles for tools, eating utensils, toothbrushes etc. You could also make a cool faux antler handle for a knife
Seem like a good idea at the time ... until it stay in the car on a hot summer day lmao . I believe there is better alternative that don't Melt so easy . i suggest you use gaffer tape to bring it to desired size and coat it with few layers of Dry Fast rubber .
I'm not sure how the glue and baking soda would work, but I like this idea using epoxy resin instead and maybe turn it on a lathe or drill press to shape it.
@@kathyjones274 there quite literally is no commercial adhesive even in the same league as 2 part epoxy. epoxy resin chemically does a lot more than you think. I'd be curios where your troubles are with it - but it's also fairly simple to use but there are scenarios it won't work as well. This is not one of them. it's made to do this usually with a shaleD of atleast 80. That's work site hard hat material by comparison

You could have chucked it in a drill and turned it like a lathe using sandpaper. I would have been afraid of gunking up my grinder wheel with the glue. You also could have hit it again with the heat gun to soften it a bit so you could grip the handle tight and made it ergonomically yours.
Good idea. I imagine it fits anything that has a broken handle. Depending on the price of a new one, you might be able to save a lot of money, so thanks for the idea.😁👍❤️
