A problem with coating tools is that the silicone will be slippery. Another problem is if the silicone is an acetoxy cure, (smells like vinegar, most silicone caulking/ building sealant, but not for Ca carbonate products), it adheres well and most are stronger than alkoxy, (think window glazing/ sealant), and oxime, (think some FIP gasketing, horrible for adherence) curing silicones, but it may cause corrosion. A one part/ moisture curing urethane may be preferable. Dissolving an acetoxy curing silicone in 1,1,1-trichlorotane is best wit the appropriate safeguards. Higher concentrations of silicone gives thicker coatings. Want a thicker coating? Redip a partially dried/ cured item. Heaters are allowed to accelerate the process. Thinned coatings of alkoxy or oxime catalyzed silicones can be used to coat/ encapsulate electronic circuits. Be aware of any heat dissipation requirements. Fish eye remover for paint is usually a few grams, (large drops), of 300 cS silicone oil. Needing a bacteria/ virus/ mold resistant surface? Dip or paint the desired item/ surface with an uncured, thinned acetoxy catalyzed silicone solution, allow it to partially dry and cure, then dip or spray a fairly concentrated quaternary ammonium disinfectant solution over the surface and then allow to continue to dry. Some of the ammonia moeities will bond with sites on the surface of the silicone and be immobilized, but bio active.and resistant to many washings.

Nice tips! But I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have spirits (the solvent you used) contact the rubber of the tire! It might become porous.

Hola, lo del tripode que no es buena idea...quizas si pierdes una de sus tapas, pero es mejor solucion comprar una alfombrilla de goma ..esas que son antideslisantes..con eso no se te movera facilmente y si lo hacer no rallara el piso.

That's pretty stupid. If your tape isn't even the thing won't sit level, and you can go to the dollar store to get rubber covers of all kinds of different styles and colors that just slide right over the legs. Worst case scenario you can always use tennis balls. Considering tubes of calking can be pretty expensive, I think this is an example of what not to do.

Interesting but i have wheels on all of my light stands and tripods. Most tools today have an anti-rust coating. All of mine do... They make hard rubber hammers both regular and dead blow ones for not a lot of money.

Hı.It is very important for me that you use synthetic thinner for hydrophobic coating, thank you. l made it with synthetic thinner, it's getting stuck in my coat :(

Or you could just buy rubber tube end caps that will wear much better.
