I've had an amazing time lately testing my epic custom axis 19 mm Mast to Gong Fuse connection and the new H Stabilizers. The H 38 Stab feels amazing, and really lightens up the setup, making it even more turny and even more important less draggy. I can really recommend switching to one of the new H Stabs!
Equipment used:
Vampire Downwind Board 7,6 by 19, shotz under 100 l
Gong Veloce XXL, 38 h Fluid Stab, Custom Pro Fuse Alloy, Axis S Series 19 mm 75 cm Mast

How have you found the stiffness of the axis alu mast? Have you thought about moving to carbon or HM carbon? I'm on a gong 75cm alu mast and it really feels like a noodle, especially with large foils and in small waves

Hey man, I haven’t done a loaded bend test to truly compare them, but I feel like they are about the same stiffness. Maybe the axis is a bit stiffer but I’m not sure. What I do feel like is that the Axis feels a bit more free and less draggy (I guess less chord, different section…) I would love to get a Hm Mast! But I would want it because of it’s thinner for the same stiffness. I don’t believe in the Stiffness gain too much for now. In a year or so that might be different. The Nolimitz v2 72 for example feels almost the same as the axis 19 mm stiffness wise (a bit less stiff) but it’s sooo much faster! I think for truly large foils with like >130 span the masts are not there yet, feel like most large Frontwing setups feel like a noodle when not used to it. But when I then use it for two weeks it feels normal again :D Are you on the Gong v1 or gong v2? If on the v1 buy the v2 it’s soo much better :)

your skill is now night and day to where it was 0.5year ago! Why use Axis S, not Gong regular or M-series mast, why go through the whole adapter thing?

I think, with Axis Mast and Adapter Setup you can change between Axis, Gong and Sab - Fuselage if you have one of these other Brands.

Thanks, feels like it too now its fun :D Honestly its not really worth the effort, but like this I'm able to use different brands without having to carry around a Mast for each brand. Plus the Axis Alloy Mast is lighter + less Chord than the Gong, while being as stiff/ maybe even more stiff.

@@andreasstrack69 Exactly! There are also Adapters for Unifoil, F-One, Takuma, Lift, Cabrinha... Amazing to be able to ride all the brands on one Mast :D However, a 14 mm thick at the bottom might be more fun to ride than the 19 mm, if its as stiff, but I'll wait a bit longer before getting a high modules Carbon Mast..

@@leo-stief do you feel you miss the wing at all? I mean just as a means of transporting yourself back upwind in a relaxed manner, instead of paddling out which could be strenuous depending on conditionss
@leo-stief
@leo-stief Год назад
@@Alejandro388 Yes, definitely! And I think I'll start to use the wing again more frequent as its just more comfortable winging upwind, compared to walking or paddling upwind. Still the Feeling of being in the waves without the wing just holding a paddle is just amazing and I do really prefer it. But for now I want to get really proficient at SUP DW Foiling, so I'll take any chance I get to paddle : D

Hi good job! Any advice where to find gong to axis adapter or custom fuse? Thanks
@leo-stief
@leo-stief Год назад
Thanks! Unfortunately there aren't any brands producing them yet, so the only way to get one is to find a mill shop and let them mill it. But it's possible to build it out of the Gong Doodad, so it's not the hardest adapter ever to build : ) I think there will be brands sooner or later producing the conversion doodad & Fuse...

Hi Leo, nice to see you again. Where is the spot where the magic happened?

Hey Steffen, Thanks! The Spot is Kühlungsborn :) Nice spot but only works in certain conditions

gong mast is one of the weak spot to get max glide on gong gear nice conversion.

Thanks! I think there isn't even such a huge difference in between the alloy masts, but the Axis feels slightly less draggy to me. Maybe that's just because I like the look and feel of it tho : D

@@leo-stief there a huge diff ! there 2 mast in axis range if i remember one 14 and one 16mm , try a fone alu mast if you can and try the gong back too back you will be flabergasted the fone alu mast with a carbon plane is just 4kg ! 500g more than my full carbon mast armstrong setup , the glide is almost as good as my armstrong and the weight is topnotch for an alu mast. compared to my gong gear 5.6kg so there better alu mast than other !
