Saturday 8th July was a chaotic day for the FR. A special charter service, ‘The White Rose’ Was planned to run on the FR. However, not everything goes to plan…

So basically the charter was requested to have Blanche hauling it. As Blanche was on the quarryman, this engine was not available. However, merddin emrys (the double engine) had failed and Welsh Pony went up the line with Blanche to get the Woodland Wanderer, whilst Lyd went to help out Merddin Emrys. Welsh Pony and Britomart hauled the special train.

Went on holiday in about 1970 we travelled as far as the rail went then. Also, visited the first pumped storage hydroelectric being built. The generators were housed inside a giant hall inside a mountain. We seemed to be like insects, and the machines that were big looked small in this great cathedral of a building.

Why was Welsh Pony facing the wrong way? Is there a turntable?

By the way, the ffestiniog railway does not have a turntable. They used a wagon turner to turn it round.

Good thing that Merddin Emrys certainly happens to be a specifically wonderfully great double-ended articulated tank engine with an official 0-4-4-0T wheel configuration that officially can easily be travel in both directions without turning around thus Merddin Emrys certainly can easily just run round to the other end of the train!

Quick explanation of what happened: so basically the White rose special service was rostered with Blanche requested to haul it. However, since Blanche was on the service train, the loco was not available. However, Merddin Emrys had failed and so, Welsh pony and Blanche doubled headed to tan Y bwlch, when Welsh pony returned the Woodland wanderer to Porthmadog, Lyd went to help out Merddin Emrys, and britomart and Welsh pony hauled the special charter.
