I only got chosen for a duel once, but I went in on the wrong job (was leveling astro) and died to the first mechanic. There we so many people watching. I could never show my face on the southern front ever again.

Bozja's story is kind of average by FFXIV standards, but Preach's perspective is that of WoW, where grindy endgame zone stories basically boil down to: "Hey, we're the X faction and we live in this place. Can you collect enough Y via daily and/or weekly quests to help us?" There's very rarely anything that ties into the wider world or political intrigue or anything like that.

They should update the duel system to just cycle through everyone who accepted it. First person loses the duel? Grab the next person. Then keep doing that until everyone loses or until someone kills it. It would help people like me who don't want to accept the invitation because we're worried we'll take it away from someone who will actually win and it will also give more people a chance at it. Notoriety was a decent idea, but I don't know about anyone else but I'm rarely in Bozja long enough to see 2 duels let alone see enough to get a high amount of notoriety
@Adu767

That's not a bad idea. And if someone kills it before you get your turn, you gain 1 notoriety, which puts you closer to the front of the line next time a duel shows up.

For an example... imagine if you could fly in Bozja, but to get flying in Bozja, you needed to get reputation with the resistance (think beast tribe rep grinds). Except theres a catch, every reputation level you went up, means you had to do more of the daily quests to get to the next level so it exponentially gets longer until you reach max rank. And that's just for flying! Now what if those bozjan coins you got could be traded in for a RANDOM statted piece of gear with a cool effect like "has a chance to increase crit damage by 20% for 10s" - sounds cool right? Up until you realize that this gear IF you can get it, its so much better then anything in the current raid teir you're absolutely scuffed if you DON'T have it for raid progression. So not only do you feel like you have to get a random statted piece of gear that hopefully rolls your bis stats and HOPEFULLY rolls the bis effect, but - and here's the catch - you only get 1-5 coins per critical engagement, not from dupe research notes, and one piece of gear cost anywhere from 20-50 coins. Welcome to nazjatar, the zone I wanted to love but came to absolutely despise.

18:20 No lie, the first time I got invited to a duel was from the Fenrir boss in Zadnor's zone 2 and I immediately got wiped in that duel and two different people whispered me saying something along the lines of "if you cant do the duel then dont even join it and let the people who are good enough to do them go in and do them" and I was just dumbfounded cus like how was I ever supposed to learn the fight and do it myself if I'm just supposed to skip out on my chances to try the duel
@whyarealltaken
@whyarealltaken 2 года назад
I think they would argue watch someone else do it and see what they use because you dying to the first mech is the most ineffective way of testing the fight as you would have to do it like 40 times to know what's up assuming you figure out and learn each skill the first time you see it.
@TerryVideoZone
@TerryVideoZone 2 года назад
@@whyarealltaken either way, when the zone first came out this wasn't the case because it was new to everyone, and it's not like the people that "know what they're doing" are going to always be around in every instance. If the game is giving you the option you are well within your right to do so, and if the people that are solely going for duels are in the instance there's probably a pretty good chance that they have the points to get priority anyways, or will eventually since they're clearly just going for duels. Not to mention that there are plenty of pretty strong mitigation tools within the lost actions that make it easy enough to see an entire duel even if you aren't making the DPS check; it absolutely wouldn't take anywhere near 40 tries if a new player were determined to learn the duel even if they weren't looking up guides or clear videos.
@whyarealltaken

@Terry's Video Zone your wrong about the defensives part almost any failed mech will instant kill you. There are items you specifically need to survive mechanics in each duel and if you are lucky enough to get to that part it's still a full stop. Still better to watch someone attempt it before you or have watched a guide. That's no excuse for how some people react to someone obviously ignorant on the fight. Those guys were being toxic: everyone should have their turn at fun, even if they're going to be bad at it because eventually everyone who qualifies gets their turn. You're almost always going to fail your first duel because you have no idea what's going on. Sure, you can watch the guide, but it doesn't prepare you for the timing involved in the dance: you memorize the moves and patterns, then just get used to it. It's just like the CE you practiced repeatedly just to qualify for the duel, right? Die a shitload of times until you get it, then do it until you can do it perfectly.

So I might be wrong here but as someone that plays WoW and raids, and also plays FFXIV I think there is a misunderstanding of the word optional. As a WoW player I am conditioned to look at anything that is not tied to player power needed for raid progression as optional. So when Preach is saying Bozja is optional he means your player power is not tied to it in an end game raid sense. If Bozja was in WoW there would probably be a 10 to 15% character power increase tied to it. It is just WoW brain to instantly go to, will this make me stronger or not above all things. It isn't is this going to be fun or do I want to do it, it is how much player power is tied to it. Edit: so no player power = optional. I can choose to do it or not without affecting my raid group. If it affects my raid group it is mandatory. If it is just something I might enjoy or unlocks something I might enjoy just for fun without affecting the guild raid then it is optional.

I agree with your sentiment on what, specifically in WoW is optional and not optional. I'm (was) the type of WoW player that casually did whatever I felt like doing. As an example: When considering a covenant I don't care what's "best" I was going to pick based off what's most fun and fits the class fantasy. I might be wrong cause I haven't played for a while, but in WoW things are really only mandatory if you are considering a specific timeframe for completing the current expansion's endgame content. Everything else in the game is optional. Usually I show up at the end of an expansion, knock out pathfinder and the dungeons I want to see and if I don't get to everything, that's fine too
@Machete__Squad
@Machete__Squad 2 года назад
@@nicholasaragon4126 Yes technically speaking WoW is a video game so everything is optional either you play the game or you don't, and there isn't a gun to your head forcing you to play. However, that seems too reductive to me. Yes you can clear content without being optimal. However, doing that you are throwing stones into the pockets of your guild/team/friends. Eventually it turns into boulders in backpacks. If everyone has that mentality the likelihood of getting Cutting Edge is slim to none. For me personally I could technically play what I want because I find it more fun, and there are a few people in our raid that do. However, we know who they are and can tell who they are without any of them saying anything. Those of us that strive for being optimal and efficient know they are making our job harder. They are making the clear more difficult and take longer on purpose and by choice. I don't want to feel like I am wasting my friends time, or that I am making their experience worse. I am considerate and care about them enough to respect their time. Simple rule, do to others what you want them to do to you. If I don't want my time wasted I am not going to waste their time. I would rather quit the game than waste my friends or the 19 total other people in the raids time. It breeds animosity and I can say that personally people in my guild that I like on a personal level, but ignore the systems make me get upset at them because I know had they made a bit more effort to be optimal we would have cleared weeks earlier and wasted less time. The more they choose not to do the more I have to do to make up for it. Think of it like this. You and your friends enjoy a tv show. However before you can watch the tv show you all have 1 chore around the house to do. If someone doesn't do their chore one of the others has to do it for them or no tv show. How many extra chores are you going to get stuck with before you start to resent the 1 person that consistently chooses not to do their chore? Ultimately it is the games fault, and it is why people are leaving the game and screaming for change. However, given the current state it is what it is and we try and make the best of it. My friends play, I have guildmates I have known for years, and they are people I genuinely enjoy spending time with. I don't want them to resent me the way I would them so I end up doing things I don't enjoy to be optimal. Remove player power from these systems and a lot of these problems disappear. Sorry for the rant.

Yes, as someone who spent many years on WoW, I view the word optional in the same way. It's optional to do the Chromie scenario, it's optional to do the mage tower. It is not optional to fully unlock the Artifact and Netherlight Crucible in Legion. It's not optional to get Essences and Corruptions in BFA. And I stopped playing SL before hitting max level, but I know that conduits, Thorghast, Soul Ash, and all the other shit in SL. If you don't do those things, you don't get to raid anything beyond LFR.

I'm under the impression that Xenos has absolutely no idea how good he has it. Like when he yells and hollers about "stupid devs," WOW players like me are thinking what a sweet summer child he is. FFXIV devs might have their blind spots, but they're not hostile to the players like WOW devs are. Like when he complains about tanks, my first thought runs back to the many many patch cycles when one tank spec (out of six) absolutely dominated content and that was all anyone used. In FFXIV, it's three tanks are OP and one tank is bottom barrel, but at least we have a choice and it's still easy to level them all.
@cardbutton892
@cardbutton892 2 года назад
@@zenspeed404 Its not even that. Three tanks are OP ... in dungeon content, specifically trash packs. DRK (if thas the bottom barrel you're referring to) is the best DPS tanks in the game right now for endgame content. WAR, the easiest dungeon W2W tank is the lowest DPS. But that self sustain (and heals) effectiveness drops off pretty rapidly when switching to single target encounters like bosses and raids. Its good, but its "redundant" ... as all it really does is mean you're taking up part of the job the healer is already expected to do. WAR does feel very good to use in Dungeons, and DRK does have some mitigation issues tho.

I think the only problem with separateing the raids from the bozja content is the main gimmick of the content itself the essences and skills. technically you could buy that shit off the marketboard but it's easier just to grind them out in the zone + it helps players understand what they do before attempting the raids you could argue that they could just be doable without the gimmick but that kinda defeats the purpose in a way if they added them in, in the way xeno says by having them auto go on your character after deating a boss i could see that working in the future but with the logos and essenses being so attached to the raids it's a bit hard to implement it that way.

Duels are made so that you can't do them blind *at all*. Lyon oneshots you if you forgot your Dispel. Bozja also doesn't teach you about Dispel (the ONLY fight in the game where you use Dispel is Ovni from Eureka - but even Ovni has its common-looking damage buff - and Lyon's fire buff is unique and we all know that unique buffs don't mean anything in this game). In Savages, when you fail, you just go again and try something different, and you have all tools to beat the bossfight if you have min ilvl, the preparation only reduces the prog time. In Bozja, you get a duel at 3 am because you were leveling an alt with other 3 casuals in the instance. You will need a ton of Lost Actions which you *don't have* and *can't buy* while inside the instance, you'll need to know the duel-specific stuff like Dispel for Lyon or Repel/Magic shields or some other things, you'll also need to know the duel mechanics which are on the typical Extreme difficulty. If you fail, you just go to sleep because the next time you'll get a chance to duel will be in 2 or 3 hours (in the empty instance. In the instances full of players, you don't even bother). I don't know what the fuck were they thinking. Casuals can't duel because of mechanics and preparation, hardcore players can't duel because of the obnoxious time gating and grind just to get a small chance to duel, you are expected to prog Extreme raid mechanics with literally _days_ between pulls. In the end, 99% of the duels end up with wiping on the first mechanic because the player forgot some Lost Action.

Here is the upcoming wow patch. 1 zone (not particularly large), no story really to speak of unless you bought some book they paid some half assed author to write and read that, an old dungeon reworked to be two dungeons that you can run at varying levels of hardness called Mythic +, and torghast (think deep dungeon but not like FF) which everyone hates that has "new wings" that still don't give anything worth having except for another currency you have to have. Gear the two legendary items, it will take 8 weeks after the patch releases to get to it, you have to grind out the "new currency" by doing required daily, bi-weekly, and weekly quests (the same 5 or 6) killing the rares and finding and opening chests. Is it mandatory? Depends. You want to raid? Yes its mandatory. You want to do high end Mythic + dungeons, then yes. All the gear you grinded for months for in shadowlands has no meaning now as they disabled all the reason to have it. So yes you must log in every single day and grind your currency, grind your rep for at least two months. This is the wow model. Force the player to spend hours farming the same content over and over and over and then at the next patch all the gear you earned is no longer any good. Basically, if you are casual, don't raid, don't do mythic +, don't do PVP? Then your golden and nothing is mandatory.

FFXIV has the endgame as a additive feature, but you'll still not have much fun until nearly max level. FFXIV needs more endgame content. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. WoW is also far too grindy. I don't think anyone disagrees with that either. Both games are flawed, but nobody cares about the FFXIV story (which there needs to be a TLDR simplification of) and the skills really need to be spread out more evenly vs the Jobs being effectively a shell of an experience until 65-70+.

@@deanmayberry9713 90% of the players I know care so much about the story they get mad if they encounter new patch or expansion spoilers. Some don't care but a large portion do. XIV is mainly meant to please people who are fans of the mainline series and mostly casual MMO players. That's why they are adding trust to the entire MSQ to appeal to FF fans who won't give XIV a shot because its an MMO. That's why there's not as much endgame/high difficulty content. You probably need a game somewhere inbetween WoW and XIV.

@@emc704 agreed. I've met lot of people who are just in for the story. They get upset at the hint of slightest difficulty, complaining it hinders their story progression. Solo Duty too hard!! luckily there's a Very Easy mode for them. Story Dungeons too hard!! Not so lucky for us, because devs now have to make those dungeons as braindead as possible for them to progress.

@@deanmayberry9713 so uhh "story is boring nobody cares about it": terrible take, you say nobody cares, yet the devs keep making more of it and even higher quality than before, if it was so irrelevant devs wouldn't dump that much budget and time on it. I do however agree that there should be a secondary way of unlocking content and leveling that doesn't involve story, so people that can't sit to read millions of words of text and watch hours of cutscenes can enjoy the game too. "ffxiv doesnt have enough endgame": i disagree... sort of.... this game definitely has a smaller budget than WoW, and more of it is spent in story, so it's expected that it can't pump content at the same rate. But this opinion could be coming from wrong perspectives, so yea, endgame content isnt only limited to PvP, Raiding and Dungeons, it is also not only lv90 content, and it is not supposed to keep you engaged 24/7 until the next patch comes. There's other "endgames", and they aren't necessarily unlocked at 90 after msq, you can get gold saucer at lv5, eureka at 70, bozja at 80, professions and housing just as you start playing, and you can still do older duties thanks to level sync, this game also understands that it cannot keep you playing forever, so it doesn't try to do it. "jobs feel boring before 70": that i can't deny, a lot of jobs are missing critical parts of their toolkits for too long (dance partner until 60, whm cooldowns until 60, jobs without AOEs by first dungeon), and then of course most of them are boring, I understand that by low levels you can't make complex jobs just yet, and you also can't break skill progression, but i'm not sure if there's a way to make them more... engaging and fun? with the combat being tab targeting with slow gcd and whatnot

One thing I will say about bozja being tied to raids is that I personally disagree that it's tied to raids, most weapon upgrades for raiding are barely an upgrade if even sometimes a downgrade, another thing is that WHEN they release the supposedly strong relics its already far gone in the raid tier that by that time you'll have your -5ilvl bis weapon from the new ex trial or completed the raid, I personally wouldn't mind something like bozja again but I also would like a fresh quest line grind for relic weapons

When he names WoW zones from recent expansions as "Catch-up zones" that isn't entirely true. They become catch-up zones when WoW releases a catch-up mechanism. These zones in WoW are pretty much forced if you want to progress the main "story" for that expansion while Bozja and Eureka are completely optional. I'm okay with Bozja, but I really enjoyed Eureka the first time I did it. I'll probably wait until a larger content lull to go in again.

I actually liked the Bozja storyline until it got to Zadnor, then it took a nosedive. Another big part that expands the storyline is you really wanna read those field notes, they have so much lore if you're a lore junkie, also pay attention to the dialogue that npcs will say at certain Skirmishes/CEs.
@VideogamesPang
@VideogamesPang 2 года назад
The biggest problem with the Bozja story is that it's incomplete. It is obvious that some sort of future plan was cancelled partway into development and so it ends abruptly with a shitload of stuff unresolved or just stuffed into field notes as an afterthought. If you go through the story again you'll see they set up SO much shit with Gabranth that just never pays off because whatever content he was going to be in was obviously cancelled. The second biggest problem is that Matsuno is a writer who really loves worldbuilding but doesn't know how to tell an actual story. Every named character in Bozja has like 8 paragraphs of backstory, but almost none of those characters actually DO anything. Matsuno's stories kind of just feel like you're watching the events of a history book instead of an actual narrative with themes. Return to Ivalice has the same problem, the entire plot is told through unvoiced dialogue dumps mostly describing events that happened in the distant past.

I think the key here that Preach talks about is how much better this is for being completely optional. In WoW this would have been mandatory content that you'd have to grind every week for the duration of the expansion or you'd fall behind on getting stuff you needed to do new raid content. Modern WoW's version would be like if you took the FFXIV Savage Raid system of weekly tokens, but instead of those being something you earn just inside Savage Raiding in order to do more Savage Raiding, you had to do a 1-50 PotD run on a max level character, then HoH, then farm Bozja until you'd done at least 10 CEs, and then do a 15 daily Beast Tribe quests, rinse and repeat every week all expansion long. And if you want an Alt then you also have to do that as well for them or they fall behind on gearing too. And then once the expansion is over, whatever doo-hickey you did all that grinding to power up just goes kaput.

Untie DR hardly makes any sense. It’s great to know hardcore raiders like Xenos enjoy DR raid (prob becoz it has s Savage which is way more difficult), thing is as content created by Matsuno, whom Yoshi-P gave full authority over all plot writing and gameplay design including boss mechanics design perhaps, DR is only part of Bozja’s raiding content. CLL, DR and Dal are the 3 raids that are equally fun tied with Bozja storyline (also plus Varis trial/Ex trail I guess). Untie these raids from its questline makes no sense as same as u can’t untie Pandaemonium from EW msq if u want to do the raid u either finish EW stroy or purchase EW msq skip when it’s available in the future, that’s how raiding and questlines tied together works in this game. Now if Xenos’ complain is about to make DR into duty finder, that could be reasonable becoz DR queueing rn has become a joke since EW as ppl who are interested doing it has dropped by A LOT there’s basically no one queuing it players have to go to party finder and that’s never the case they encourage to do in the past. The reason it became like this is prob also becoz DR is such a special raid content with the use of Lost Actions that are Bozja-content exclusive, the difficulty adjusted by number of players (which is a unique feather for all three Bozja raids), even it’s 2-hit vul check and fun and challenging mechanics designed by Matsuno, all of these factors make it so special that it’s just impossible for them to simply put it into duty finder and treat it like any other raids. But overall I believe players are convinced that it’s a good raid design that many enjoy doing DR, so we might see more raids like this (prob no longer designed by Matsuno tho) in the future.

I never considered Bozja a catchup zone because I was already 80 on everything when it arrived. I did the content for the content, and it was cool. Edit: I agree about duels. If it was simply solo it'd be an awesome set of content. But not having notoriety at the start was a massive mistake, and even with it it can take forever to get back to your try if you fail. It's no wonder people have no qualms cheesing it. It can create a generally positive environment, but the game is set up to make someone trying to do a duel, losing it to someone and watching them die to the first mechanic infuriating. The game is encouraging anger, no real way around that. Definitely agree, the implementation could be vastly improved. I feel like a simple first come first serve sign up system would work just fine, with a single person only able to sign up once a day. It lets it be public and fun while letting everyone grind it at their leisure. Edit 2: I also disagree that DRS is on the same plane as Savage raiding. It's entirely tied in to the lost action system and Bozja ecosystem, and far more accessible than Arsenal ever was. The only thing that DRS shares with Savage raiding is its title.

You can get haste gear the makes your CD's significantly shorter, you can get permanent buffs once you max your rank and if you get to know the clusters and essence some of them are just completely broken it's wild. This is the real fun in bozja for me. The gear and items are usable in all save the queen content with the exception of some items that can only be used in DRN / DRS. On top of this you can do all this while leveling your alts, and collecting relic mats passively. If you have never used haste hear in bozja content please do yourself a favor and at least try it, it feels good

Eureka had more TT npcs tied behind it. In order to get all the cards from the Eureka zone(s) or TT npcs, you had to unlock Hydatos. The main difference between Eureka and Bozja gameplay, is instead of having an elemental level deciding what you can and cannot do, the mettle system gave you flat modifiers. They're both FATE driven, with Eureka being able to grind mobs for exp, and Bozja just had more things to do. Even with all the current nerfs in play, it takes exceedingly less time to get through Bozja for TT than it does for Eureka, even if you buy the chest piece and pentameld.

Xenos’ take on duels esp player selection of duels in Bozja content extremely confused me that I almost wonder whether he played dumb purposely. First of all, duels are NOT open to everybody LOL ofc we all know the requirement to participate duels which is must take no vul attack AT ALL in a CE and those CEs with duels are def not EZ and meeting that requirement is not EZ EITHER, which means anyone who gets invite to the duel, def means they do possess some level of pve skills in this game, which requires lots of practice and hard work learning their jobs and mechanics and all that. IT IS A FAIR SELECTION. Now second, if Xenos think among those who got invited (which I DOUBT that number will always be high since we all know number of players in Bozja is def not as many now as in ShB patches, I doubt those ppl who get invited will be over 5 or 6 now lol depends on the number of players in that zone), it’s not fair to select one randomly which makes it unfair, but the games has gave a PERFECT response to that with “Notoriety” point: u did not get selected this time, well bad luck, BUT ur Notoriety goes up, and the purpose of that Notoriety is just to tackle with this kind of bad luck and complaint from players like Xenos who didn’t get chosen becoz FOR NEXT TIME the ones who got invited with HIGHER Notoriety will have PRIORITY over those who also got invited with LOWER(or 0) Notoriety, And when u finally got chosen, CONGRATULATIONS, and ur Notoriety returns to 0, and it starts all over again. I believe there’s no system more fair than this! But like I also said, it’s really no longer a big deal since not that many play in Bozja now and design of this system merely to tackle situations when there were really that many players in Bozja back in ShB. Xenos should give Bozja another try, I’m sure he will enjoy his duels with all his fans and simps cheering around him, and the sight when he gets his glorious victory over Lyon in a duel will be MARVELOUS

Just one thing I have to point out it that Xenos was absolutely WRONG to ask his chat, which I assume made up of bunch of ff14 players who’s either skipped lores or simply not interested in lores of this game and prob don’t even care to reach that many of English words in a video game, about their opinions of Bozja’s story clueless LMAO “Story is average?” “6/10”??? I doubt they even know what they are saying lol Come on! The Ivalice/Bozja storyline is one of the best and most unique lores throughout the entire game content if ff14, becoz its mainly written by Yasmin Matsuno, who is one of the most legendary game producer/scenario writers of all time in Japanese game history! The young kids nowadays don’t even know who is Matsuno anymore?? One of SE’s best writers in the past, who created famous FF Tactics and FF12 and of course his breakthrough masterpiece of game history - Orge Tactics. A man who went to Yugoslav Wars frontlines of Eastern Europe back in 1990s as a reporter just to write better stories on dark themes like war and politics.Yoshi-P is so simp on him as his mentor that one of reasons he went to Square Enix was just to work with Matsuno! He is so simp that he gave him all authority and resources and budget for Matsuno’s content Ivalice/Bozja (Ivalice raid is prob only raid with bosses that were voice acted) Yet players o esp those Ivalice/Bozja haters criticize his content saying his story is boring and bad, and guess what? Just becoz Matsuno wrote too many words and those no brainers just don’t like to read in a video game LOL and they come out and say the story is bad without even trying to read and comprehend what the story is actually abt OMEGALUL
