Man, its crazy how Bloewyda hugging Urianger just forces the tears straight to the back of my eyes, even now on my 5th or 6th time seeing it.

it hits extra hard because nobody really hugs in this game
@omegagilgamesh
@omegagilgamesh 2 года назад
@@nmarchan I think we don't see many hugs here due to a combination of cultural differences (I'm pretty sure hugging is more intimate in Japanese culture than it is in the west) and animation difficulties, as it can be difficult to animate something like that when there are so many factors such as height difference (even among the same race and sex) and clothing that all need to be accounted for unless you're okay with awkward clipping. Now that I mention this, am I recalling correctly that the moment Moenbryda saw Urianger in 2.0+ she captured him in a fierce bear hug and even lifted him off the ground? This may be a coincidence, but like daughter like mother, maybe they're a hug-y family? I wonder how much lore there is on Sea Wolf culture.

Dude you have no idea! Every time I go to a random reaction for this scene I always say "I'm here for their reactions to feel the same way I did when I made it to this part" only for me to end up tearing up along with them! Should note as well was not the largest of fans of Urianger during ARR, but when Moenbryda entered thats when my thoughts on him changed and I felt bad for him when tragedy struck. One of the best closures to a story.

Zenos said "would you sympathize with my bloodlust had I a deep reason to fight?" Basically what people do with villains. They kill and slaughter and sow suffering, but they only need to tell us a sad story and we are all giving them love.

He grew up in an environment where his nation was basically designed to sew chaos into the world by his great grandfather. He may have not known that but he could see his father and generals, both those acting noble or acting insane, perform all manner of atrocities using all manner of excuses. So he embraced violence and chaos itself for its own meaning when surrounded by such hypocrisy.

I feel like it was also throwing some shade back on fans who expected him to have some hidden motive or shocking twist. Zenos found his reason for living, fighting for himself, not his father or his nation. It's as simple as it gets, but simple doesn't mean "bad".

in A-Ruhn's defense, he's probably the only white mage in the group, so he would be the only one with glare, holy, etc. XD remember white magic is incredibly rare, the wol is currently the only non-padjal to practice if i remember correctly, all of the other healers would be conjurors. and no, i don't understand the hate for a-ruhn and raya-o and i did the white mage quests. i thought a-ruhn was a little annoying because of his prejudices, but he got better in the end and i never really disliked raya-o i love this scene with Urianger and Moenbryda's parents! not only is it so wonderfully emotional, but we got to hear more about moen, who we got to spend so little time with. uri being able to get some closure as well was nice too. he's felt so awful about the incident for so long, he really needed, and deserved, this.

If you had told me last year that a scene with Urianger would be the first in this game to make me ugly cry as a man, I'd never have believed you. But the fact that he was an awkward child hit home. Moreso for me since I never had anyone like Moenbryda to actually help me bridge the gap with other kids. My mom and I moved from my childhood home when I was very young and I proceeded to spend the rest of my formative years as the new kid, with all the negative baggage that comes with it learning all the wrong lessons of being "new kid". Was an incredibly lonely time that this scene reminded me of.

The scene with Urianger and Moenbryda's parents just hits you out of left field. I don't know what it is about that scene and how they managed to make a character who was only around for like 2 patches of ARR make such a powerful impact near a decade (irl) after her death. I don't think there's ever been any fictional event that's made my cry more, and they were happy tears! The lines, the voice acting, the quavering both in animation and the delivery of the lines. Urianger's character development from Mr Thee Thou in a potato sack to one of the most beloved and emotionally rich characters in the game, and their finally having the technology for proper hugs. It almost feels like they didn't want to do this scene until they could animate proper hugs. The foreshadowing of the scene before heading off the Thavnair made it clear that he'd be apprehensive of how they'd react, and so were we as players. And of course it being completely unexpected because one minute I'm hating all the increasingly annoying fetch quests leading up to that scene, and them bam! Emotional breakdown.
@Zaque-TV
@Zaque-TV 2 года назад
Its impactful because they know how to express peoples anxieties and fears and how relieving it can be to open up to others about it and recieve comfort in exchange that's what opens the flood gates. And they leave no loose ends for any character.

Endwalker addressed character trauma and emotional burdens so beautifully. The constant theme of expressing pride and love in the actions and choices of loved ones, reaffirming connections thought to be shattered by simple mistakes...there truly is a proverbial band-aid for a number of hurts that players themselves might carry from their own lives. I might cry about this damned expansion, but the tears are well deserved and often cathartic.

As great as the scene between Uriangier and Moenbryda's parents is, it's funny how all the scientists stop the very important conversations they're having with the loporrits to watch them. When I got to the Uldah/Black Shroud cutscenes my emotions were along the lines of "wow, everyone that we've helped is helping us!" happy tears. But when it moved to Ishgard and Artoirel sitting at Haurchefant's grave, they changed to really sad tears with the realization that we would have to leave our best buddy behind. That everything that we had ever saved would be left behind too. That there was no way we could save every single person with the evacuation plan. And even if we somehow managed to do so, the planet itself would be lost with all the creatures we would not be able to bring. It hit heavy.

whats especially great about the black shroud one is that those two nations were at war before the king was over thrown and Garlea later took over.

This game throws so many little moments at you. You get out of elpis with such an incredible story to tell and its annoying how you get thrown around without being able to tell it... then the trailer scenes hit you! Then Zenos scene! Then the loloporits show up! Its such a weird bu great combination, so many ups and down work so well. Also the characters are great so easily. The bomb engineer is instantly recognizable and funny. And of course, alphinaud got a mom in the first and now it was urianger turn, its was such a beautiful and touching scene! Loving this videos so much. Shame I couldn't be part of it at the time.

Ishikawa giving G'raha the Trailer moment just proves what we all know: He's 100% their favorite. And I approve. Also can I just say that thematically without the story saying a single WORD, I was brought to tears by the fact that the monster you fight with just Alisaie + G'raha Tia took as long as it did and then when you show up, it's demolished 500% faster. They managed to show how powerful you were and how much your friends really needed you without a character having to utter a single thing. I don't know why but that moment really got me. Especially with G'raha calling the three of us the "Trio for the ages." I love that Alphinaud and Estinien are best friends but I didn't expect that G'raha and Alisaie would become besties and I absolutely love it. Also as a fellow White Mage main I love how much you hate the A-Ruhn-Senna and his sister lol

Y'shtola: "To what revelations did Hydaelyn's Elpis flower lead?" Bree: "That is a long-ass story, y'all, I don't even know where to start." Me: "So, I successfully made contact with Elidibus, he was surprisingly cooperative and cordial, especially considering we killed his god and effectively wiped out his whole race. We talked, buried the hatchet, one thing lead to another, I ended up 13,000 years in the past, befriended an OG god before she was cool, indirectly discovered that the Threshold Theory reconciliates the Fermi Paradox, either encountered or created a Causal Loop, discovered the apocalypse was the result of a lack of peer review as well as untreated depression...now that I say that aloud, that seems unsettlingly plausible." "Anyways, the important thing is that we can end it by going to the literal edge of the universe and fight a legion of creepy, monochromatic girls with cute little wings on their heads." The Scions: "...Just another Tuesday for you, isn't it?"

I totally ship your character and Urianger. xD On another note I believe Alisaie's comment actually got through to Zenos, for the very first time in his life his beliefs were challenged and ultimately we saw greater understanding from Zenos of our motivation at the end of the game. I think he actually respected us fully at the end rather than us fighting just being a means to an end.

The hug doesn't get me, it just pushes me. I don't tip over until Urianger starts to try to take personal responsibility for Moen's death ("No, more than that... 'Twas I who..."). That gets me hard. This is Timothy Watson's big moment in the character. I still kinda wish we had Gideon Emery (ARR voice and Literal VA God) but Watson crushed it. One downside to me is that it loses a bit of RPG in favor of narrative because IRL, WoL would have a responsibility to talk to them as well, because we were there when she died, we witnessed her (might even have the same compulsion to apologize we didn't/couldn't save her).
@Carsu12
@Carsu12 2 года назад
And what would WOL say? I knew her for 5 minutes, she died lol
@danh8804
@danh8804 2 года назад
@@Carsu12 I mean... wow. Guess I wasn't thinking of the sociopath's perspective in all this. See an actual emotive, virtuous, let alone heroic person (which canonically the WoL is) would have the same instinct that Urianger did, to try to take the blame. All he did was send a letter saying he needed help with the plot device. You, as WoL, would or should have at least an instinct to think there's something else you could have done about Nabriales, been stronger, been faster, been more clever, and she wouldn't have had to die. And like I mentioned, the WoL is now the only living person who can give a first hand account of how Moenbryda faced death, that can give the assurances that help - that she was brave, that she saved lives, that she did not suffer

30:20 It's funny, I think we all felt that way here. "Y'shtola, I could write you a godsdamned BOOK about it." But really, when it boils down to what they need to know, it's not all that much. It was just that our whole time in Elpis, down to the tiniest details, was so signifigant to us that it FEELS like a lot. 41:20 Poor Raya-O... I always liked her. People told me if I did the WHM quests I wouldn't like her, but having done them, I like her just the same, if not more. I know you say she's mean to moogles, but that's part of why I like her! She's not mean to them with genuine malice; she's just teasing. She acts like a big sister with them! She's not like the DRK quest guy (Sidurgu?) who genuinely wanted to murder them, or at least hurt them a lot. Moogles may be cute, but they are also very troublesome and need someone to yell at them from time to time to get them to act right. A-Ruhn, on the other hand, I can understand not liking. I don't dislike him, but I don't like him either. And I could certainly see how the ARR WHM quests would make one hate him. But to be fair, I feel like he grew as a character over time; remember that he used to be the most super-traditional of the Padjal, who wouldn't be seen dead outside the Black Shroud and wouldn't give two shits about anything happening out there either, unless it also affected them. And now here he is leading the Gridanian part of the Ilsabard contingent. 48:37 Spoken like a true healer main. Anyone else would've agreed with A-Ruhn here. Sorry, green DPS isn't true DPS. ;P (Says the DPS main. xD) My defense of Raya-O and A-Ruhn aside, I understand different people will like and dislike different characters. I happen to absolutely hate Moenbryda, which I know is a very unpopular opinion amongst the fanbase. From the first moment I met her, there was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way, and every interaction I had with her made it worse. I was honestly glad when she died, and annoyed with all the quests I had to go through that were just the Scions grieving for her. And did you know it's literally impossible to get rid of her minion? The game won't even let you throw it away, let alone sell it to an NPC. The best you can do is toss it deep into a retainer's inventory and try to forget it's there. But I digress. I mention all this mainly to point out that even as much as I hate her... that scene with her parents? Probably the hardest I've cried at this game. I honestly burst into tears the second Bloewyda hugged Urianger, and it only got worse as the conversation went on. Perfect voice acting of an emotional scene like that will always get me, even if I don't like the characters involved. And I do love Urianger, so... yeah. Honestly, this scene made me realize that if Moenbryda hadn't died, I probably would have grown to like her over time. Hell, I hated Alphinaud and Alisaie at first, back in ARR!

Uh, about you going off on Ahrun about Gridanian healers having "no proficiency in breaking thing," (and I agree, the arrogant, xenophobic, even racist little shit deserves whatever feces you throw in his face) as someone who's level 80 in EVERYTHING (including Disciples of the Hand and Land) except Warrior (current lvl 78, you WILL be mine, Amaro mount!), as well as lvl 90 in White Mage, Black Mage, Machinist, Gunbreaker and Reaper, I say that while the WHM may have the highest DPS of all the healers, clearing content with all healers, even WHMs, is akin to waiting for the 9th Umbral Calamity. Just because White Mage has some offensive spells, does not mean they're DPS. I think you completely missed the point with A-Ruhn and Lyse's conversation in your preoccupation to complain about A-Ruhn at every conceivable point. I haven't done the White Mage questline myself, however from what I know you're the only non-padjal White Mage currently lore-wise, all other remaining white mages being a handful of people in Gridania. Gridania isn't a nation that likes fighting or war, the concept that they haven't learned much offensive magic honestly seems quite obvious to me. Also A-Ruhn said we're heavy with "Healers", not heavy with "White Mages". Again, only the padjal are White Mages, the rest of the Gridanian forces are other healing classes. And while healers can do some offense, that is not their primary role... The point of the conversation was to state that Gridania, a nation that prefers peace and doesn't enjoy fighting of war, doesn't have enough people who are trained primarily in fighting. All of this and more you ignored just to spite A-Ruhn. I just want to understand why, why you seem so predisposed to loathing him (or Raya-o for that matter, as I could post another paragraph on what I feel you're misunderstood or misinterpreted about her character).
@TenaciousBree

Jfc I can understand the point of something while also pointing out my distaste for a character, I’m not an idiot. Also if you haven’t done the white mage quests, kindly go away and do that before you immediately start harassing me for not liking someone who’s an absolute tool throughout the entirety of them, thanks. Not gonna explain myself to you if you can’t do the bare minimum.
