About saying what you think in FFXIV vs WoW: I personally play wow and ffxiv both simultaneously. I raid cutting edge in wow and ultimates in ffxiv, and whenever I get asked to compare the two in terms of raiding, people dont really want an honest answer. they just want to hear positive things about the game they chose to play. God forbid that I say "healing in FF should really take a page out of wow's healing" or "wow's fights should be more about the cinematographic spectacle than about mechanics nearly requiring weak auras". On the next level, if I actually say what I think, people get soo defensive. E.g.: "Imo, WoW's classes are 10 times harder than FF's, since rotations in FF are way too streamlined and dont have any proccs or changeups midcombat. The only thing you need to take into consideriation are buff windows, downtimes and kill timing." --> the responses I get in FF: "Lol wow classes have only 3 buttons kekw" . It gets so exhausting talking about this topic because you cant have a normal conversation anymore...and that is as a player! I can only imagine how awful it must be as a content creator.

This all of this, i literally quit a WoW Discord because some People are always triggerd when you say something about FF14 once.. you can talk about GW2, Lotro, ESO, Wildstar etc.. but when you say something about FF14 some people go insane, i already start losing interest in DF Season 2 and then this whole Tribalism BS.. no thanks, i just want to play a game i enjoy ffs!
@JPrescottQ
@JPrescottQ 5 месяцев назад
I mean, to be fair, do you really get asked to compare them that often? What I find is that people want to give their opinions without pushback. You declare WoWs classes to be "10 times harder than FFs" and are shocked that you don't get a thoughtful response?

As Yoshi-P has said: WoW is the best thing that happened to FFXIV. When WoW is bad it sends players to FFXIV, when WoW is good it gets more players who come over to FFXIV when WoW is bad. FFXIV is good enough to hook most players with fond memories and a good experience, so even when they go back to WoW they will return to FFXIV when WoW is slow, ping-ponging back and forth. Meanwhile, WoW's meta is fairly unappealing to those that started in FFXIV, so WoW doesn't really aquire FFXIV players that try it out. Personally, as a legacy FFXIV player that also played WoW from day one...I still play FFXIV and don't play WoW.
@OldManInternet
@OldManInternet 5 месяцев назад
WoW's meta has also shifted a lot over the years, and stopped appealing to a lot of old WoW players too. Thankfully for them they have classic and SoD to pivot to, but retail is definitely an acquired taste at this point.

I feel like the Scottzone stuff really gets blown out of proportion. It is a fact that he got attacked for his opinions, but it wasn't that it chased him back into being a WoW Refugee. He simply realized that after he'd caught up to the game he wasn't really a fan of that type of content flow and slowly started to fall out of love with both it and streaming in general. The backlash to his video certainly didn't help nor was deserved in any way, but there seems to be this lore that he was chased away when that really was not the case.

For mid-core content I personally think Extreme is at a perfect level of difficulty, it's jsut that extreme level is not used anywhere else outside of the main trials. I would personally do alot of Criterion, but the difficulty goes to savage and I honestly hate that. there is no reaon for that content to be on that level. But now it has to be because they introduced the weapon upgrade on it. If dungeons had an Extreme version with extreme level gear as reward, it would be so nice. but instead we have this weird hole in the game where the only extreme you will ever experience in the game is trials and most of those you do unsynched so really you only have like 6 extremes and even those you start to out-level too quickly.

Midcore is not difficult to define. In anthropological theory, there's the academic terms "instrumental play" & "free play" If you think about it like a spectrum, instrumental is hardcore, free is casual. & midcore is it's own spectrum in the middle of the instrumental-free play spectrum See FoldingIdeas' 'Why it's Rude to Stink At Warcraft' here on RU-vid Explains so much of how a good chunk of the FFXIV community is fighting against Yoshi-P, he's trying to make it not end up like current WoW; they are. And then the last 2 fights of each tier can be hardcore along with ultimate. Ofc the 3rd fight of a fight may waver from mid to hardcore, looking at your P11S. For context, I was most of the way through HW at the time, and had already beaten the warriors of darkness questline in MSQ, and had just done Amdapor (Hard)... needless to say it felt like fate. It had my brain racing, it made me start wondering what the fuck was happening and compelled me to race through the rest of the MSQ and optional content... and do the Dark knight questline. Been following happy pretty much since the beginning and he was definitely the backbone of FFXIV content for a long time. Still great to see how far he's come. Personally I think I have two pretty unpopular opinions. First 1.0 really wasn't as bad as people make it out, at least if you were comparing it to FFXI. If you were a FFXI player it was still extremely disappointing but it wasn't a total lost cause and story wise it was really solid. It still has some things that I miss. The UI looked way better than what we have now at least visually but functionally it barely worked at all, it was actually slower and more awkward than the menu setup in XI. I also think 1.0 looked better graphically especially animation wise and I know exactly the screenshot happy is talking about with the chimera. I wish the ARR looked like that, even the concept UI is basically just a nicer looking varient of what we have now. And secondly... I think Stormblood is the best expansion and the current peak of FFXIV. Story and gameplay are equally important in my eyes. The story was not quite as good as Heavensward but it also wasn't bad and I enjoyed the overall theme and eastern beauty far more than the depressing tone we had in HW. But the reason it pulls ahead is job design. In HW most jobs were the same as ARR just with a few new toys with a few exceptions like bowmage. Stormblood was the first time they really went a bit more crazy with some big reworks etc but they did it mostly without pruning much. There were a few skills lost but nothing crazy. Shadowbringers did the complete opposite and looking back now I find it hard to appreciate SB just because of the sheer number of skills it removed. Hell in the case of SCH shadowbringers basically killed the job for me. Having multiple dots to maintain, shadow flare and the ability to micromange your fairy was incredibly unique and engaging gameplay. I can't think of another healer in any game even remotely like it, the skill expression was beyond anything we have now and I really miss it. The more recent loss of Kaiten makes me worry that they'll continue this trend even further despite the job design already being really boring compared to how it was. Yoshi-P has managed to avoid every mistake WoW made, except this.

Wasn't Scott Zone the one that doxxed that one annoying chatter (probably deservedly) and thats why he got a temporary ban from twitch? What happened with him was embarrassing to the FFXIV community as MrHappy puts its, absolutely, but Quazii's thing alluding to some content creators also not being able to take criticism either is also a piece of the puzzle there. I was in that chat when it happened. He criticised the normal and savage raid release schedule (absolutely fair), many people disagreed with him normally, then there were a couple of really awful people for some reason feeling "betrayed" by that and started acting awful. He doxxed either on purpose or by accident one particularly awful person that was really harassing him, and then left after the subsequent ban because of people like that one person (which is fair enough, a few bad people is enough to ruin it for anyone). I don't mean to lighten the burden of the FFXIV community there because i notice that toxic behaviour a lot. But it is also true that a lot of content creators are in their own bubbles that keep getting reinforced by their mods. That was not really the case with scott zone, just thinking in broader terms.

I played 2.0 up to 50 and I can confirm when Happy said there was nothing to do besides some HM and coils. That was a SLOG. I unfortunately skipped HW and when I saw Stormblood announced I got back into it. I actually loved SB story and the content. Hell, I even loved Raubahn Savage (after the fact). ShB was pure MAGIC. I got my wife into the game and she caught up in MSQ and we got to play ShB together, and that probably was one of the best experiences of our dating (to me). I remember finding Happy/Ethys/Sly streams back in the day as well to follow content.

On one hand, im happy for everyone who gets to experience 14 and how refined it is after all its trials and tribulations(i am a legacy player and have played every expansion and patch since.) But on the other hand, the game has lost alot of its personal and close knit feel of the 2.0-4.0 communities. Before there was server travel, you had to learn about what kinds of people and players were on your server, and there was name and skill recognition. It wasnt all unicorns and rainbows of course, but during the later stages of ARR, if you played a job that was highly sought after, big fcs or noteable raiders would go out of their way to contact you and try to recruit for world first races and high end content. It was kind of like old ff11 but better since you still could que for stuff and do stuff alone. I miss those days and some of my greatest experiences were from those days. But ive come around to the new era of ff14 and Viper and Dawntrail has me very hyped and i plan to try to get deep into endgame raiding and be as involved with the game in a way i havent since SB. This was a nice trip down memory lane for me though, great video.

Here's my experience. I'm a legacy casual player. My original character was like 20-30 player level and class level was lower than that as I tried a few. Didn't get through the 1.0 msq but I did Hildebrand which is nuts since back then. I don't even know how the dungeon in 1.0 works. But I got 100% the world map by sneaking around mobs. The 2.0 is grind fest. I do every quest available to get the easy exp before people start to do the FATE trail which is the main gameplay cycles back then. This kind of gameplay still exists in Eureka and Bozja. The game back then required you to spoil yourself with Mr.Happy's dungeon guide so you know what to do for the optimized run. Yes, even the dungeons were hard and had options. Seems good on paper but actually bad for co-op multiplayer as people could be toxic over the way the others play. Seriously even with the tunnel designs dungeons these days, someone is still toxic but it became a rare case. I think I was on the updates of 2.X all the time, seeing the Revenant Toll restoration every step. But I think I paused for some time. Cleared all the alliance raids but didn't touch the coil as it's super hard. (my raider friend explained how he set up the raid group and having the main and the backup member and how to manage the loots limit per week and I just said no) Also the relic weapon was RNG grind and I didn't complete one. But I play daily roulette every day and keep my item level up to date. When Heavensward came out, I switched from SCH to AST and that put me back to grinding a little bit more. FATE trail still be a thing. But I start to skip side quests. The story is top notch but for some reason the dungeons are sleepy. Maybe the vibe and the music. And then on 3.X I started to burn out from daily roulette and I don't have enough ilevel for the 2nd alliance raid (as I also skip Alexander thinking it's even harder than the coil) and to that point, my life wasn't in the best shape. I got moving around so I started a big pause. Years later as I have a stable job. The Shadowbringers trailer is something. I got back one month before Shadowbringers release and plowed through the last part of Heavensward I left off and the entire of Stormblood in a month. And I had started Shadowbringers seamlessly. And I am still continuously playing with a pause every one or two months keeping myself from burn out. But Shadowbringers was perfect. I tried the normal raid on Eden for the first time before I cleared all the old raids later on.

Something that I see nobody mention, but that is still a reality, not just in gaming but that I've also seen in other hobby/interest fields, like pop music scene, even politics/culture/religion scenes etc, namely what's often called 'false flag' ops or 'fake fan' pretenders: people from 1 group pretending to be an overzealous, extreme member of another, competing group to put that other group into bad, negative spotlight. I'm thinking like how some people harassed Asmongold on his FF14 streams pretending to be hardcore FF14 zealots - only to get exposed as being hardcore WoW stans who disliked it that Asmongold spent time on FF14 and who wanted to chase Asmongold back to WoW, giving an extra push by posing as annoying FF14 stan extremists. Not sure if that was also the case in Scottzone's situation, but that it happens, trolls and antis posing as 'fake fan' to damage the rep of that group, not just in the FF14 vs WoW scene or MMORPG scene, that's a fact.

The thing i hate the most about 14 like you guys pointed out is how you have to constantly walk on eggshells. If you say one thing people don't like, they'll cancel, dox, and harass you and that's straight up BS. What happened to Scott and JoCat is a prime example of how atrocious this community truly is (despite being told otherwise)

It was rough for lines at Fan Fest 2014 Vegas but Mr. Happy saying not able to do several things is not accurate. Me and My friends did several things but what did happen was one of the registers did go down for cards, so it slowed down unless you had cash. The afterparty was fun. I did meet Mr. Happy and was much easier to meet Yoshi-P, Soken and Koji-Fox. I was able to do 4-5 events each day.

This whole walking on egg shells narrative is weird to me. Outside of the FFXIV community (and I am mostly talking about in-game), streamers/content creators are largely cultivating their own personal community. The only outside community that usually comes into play is Reddit, which is a whole different ball of wax. In truth, any creator has to consider the dynamic, tone, content, and expectations for their own content, be it streaming or something else. It’s hard for me to wrap my brain around the whole of a community or even a branch of it, will come for you if you talk bad about it.

@coolyeh1017
@coolyeh1017 5 месяцев назад
@@Realradya FFXIV's community is like any other community, the majority who just play because they think the game is fun or enjoyable, with a VERY LOUD and toxic minority. The only real difference is that people cannot be actively toxic in-game or risk getting banned so there is this initial "halo" effect from people burned by the in-game toxicity that is shattered the moment they wander into FFXIV Twitter/X/Discord/Reddit/Forums, etc. Granted, I think for Zepla she cultivated a community that seldom criticizes the game and became the self-proclaimed "Heart of FFXIV" (See Husky's video with all the collabs). Such a title is a double-edged sword in that it created some unattainable expectations, that she did not need to meet, but were effectively imposed on her due to the weight of such a culture/title. Now she doesn't deserve the hate but she farmed a particular base that is unfortunately prone to snapping back at her on top of her foot-in-the-mouth moments. another thing that is fine but isn't when criticizing or debating is the stream of consciousness vs. organized presentation style. Zepla's video is more of like chunks of a VOD which means it is live and stream of consciousness, which may catch unfortunate wording against a crowd that she needed to be careful with compared to Mr. Happy's, Llamatodd's, Misshapen Chair's, or Preach's videos which say effectively the same things Zepla does but are more structured and organized while addressing critiques.

@@Realradya Personally I saw Zepla's reactions as less constructive and more "this is clearly burnout but I'm gonna make it a narrative it's the game's fault" in my eyes, which she clearly actually indirectly took to heart considering she started playing other games and enjoyed herself more for it. And this video actually taught me a really important lesson: Midcore is an insanely variable term that means very little in a group sense. Different people have different assumptions of what that kind of content actually is to the point that even I don't think I know for myself anymore, and Zepla was very much taking it as a "no no no this totally means this" as an objective fact. Like I felt I *was* midcore in that I've been doing as much non-Savage/Extreme stuff as I could for all the basic raid stories, and seeing "midcore is neglected" felt absolutely insane to me when Endwalker is not the only viable content to play and considering myself midcore, felt like she was assuming what I wanted when I didn't want that.

I semi-agree with MrHappy's rating of what's considered "midcore". I will say synced EX and Unreal(min iLvl EX) would be midcore, maybe 1st wing of savage as a stepping point from midcore to hard content. my opinion of course. I view myself as a midcore player whos only ever gotten to Unreal clearing, never done on-patch savage.

Mid-core content--I'd love to have something that offers more of a challenge than the roulettes but doesn't require me to make raiding my part-time job. I really enjoy raiding, but I don't have the time needed to devote to learning the ins and outs of ultimate content. Having mid-core being a solid stepping stone to ultimate is definitely a plus.
@meteorwalkergg

I feel like the core issue isn't the content itself, but the counterproductive nature of most of the raiding community to try to prog+parse *simultaneously*. You typically want to prog & then clear & then parse. So many players obsess over optimization/efficiency waaaay before it's even close to necessary, so you have the earliest dungeons in the game being the most stressful for casual players. Like, idk. Do the math. Community backseats more than Soulsborne's, like yikes.

I have a bit of a counterpoint on the Ishgard Restoration vs Island Sanctuary bit: You literally can't do the Restoration anymore. It's already restored. Permanently. The only use it even has anymore is crafting EXP and the rewards you get from no-lifing that crafting in its scrips. Island Restoration is a solo activity you progress at your own pace. I have zero, absolutely ZERO incentive to even look at the Restoration as anything more than a meaningless EXP grind. Islands may not be perfect, they may be tedious, but they're still PLAYABLE years down the road if you didn't max it out immediately like 99% of players did the second it came out. And it frankly makes me very upset they're probably not going to actually improve it and abandon it like Sonic Team with a good idea and flawed execution: Just run from it like the plague like everything is Sonic 06. If I see a third Eureka/Bozja or a FOMO-induced Restoration, I'm going to be kinda pissed we're getting something I HAVE to do now to get anything out of it or it'll feel terrible later down the line (read: Zadnor being barren as hell compared to the initial Bozja area actually being enjoyable, or as I said, Restoration being *done* forever and I'm not allowed to participate in the story). It's that kind of thing where if I see something that bothers me that much, I'll feel rather unreasonably upset and going from the end of Heavensward being like "yeah the war's over, let's go fix shit whenever you wanna come help" and it's already fixed. Why did you tease me with a progressing story that was over five goddamn years ago and NOT TELL ME that's how it worked? More to the point, what the hell, this is a game that prides itself on this content being evergreen, what are we doing with a FOMO story that's not even combat related?

I was in the 1.0 beta, and it sucked so bad. But I had the collector's edition pre-ordered (the only one I'd ever bought since I normally don't care about that stuff, FFXIV remains the only game where I regularly pick up CEs... and I picked it up because I loved FF11) and I figured it was beta, so maybe it was just super limited on content or something. Nope. The beta was like... the whole thing. I remember I got far more "entertainment" out of the chaos on the Lodestone and forums the following months than 1.0 ever gave me. I never maxed any class, because it was bad and boring. Then they announced that if you paid a sub for even like 1 month you'd get a permanent sub discount in 2.0. But to me, the game was so bad and so unworthy of existing that even paying a single month for a sub was unthinkable, no matter what they were doing. So to this day I pay full sub price, and don't regret it. That fucking dumpster fire didn't even deserve the price I paid for the game, let alone an additional month's sub. I'm more than happy to pay full price for a quality product, though!

As a semi-WoW refugee (kinda just playing random priv servers rather than retail) who was obsessed with FFXIV for solid 1.5 years I realized I started losing interest by 6.4, by the time I beat p12s a couple times I just kinda checked out mentally and unsubbed a month later because BG3 and Armored Core 6 were insurmountably more fun. Doesn't help that all that time I was playing WOTLK Classic for over half a year (Ulduar, TOGC) and I realized that WoW Classic despite not being as challenging or as mechanically intense, is far more dynamic to both progress and "reclear", and a big part of it is because how "tight" FFXIV want to make the savage fights with how "tight" they want to have 90% of the jobs' rotations to be, I think the 2 minute meta is cancer and while I know HW had it's issues with skills being all over the place, I hope that Yoshi-p and team find it in their hearts to unsync the 1/2min loops again, add far more procs and other dynamic additions to jobs, because when you can map out the job's actions for a 10-15 minute fight perfectly as long as you have perfect melee/ranged uptime, then it's really, really sad and static in my opinion. Still, I'm going back for Dawntrail in june/july and while I know there won't be any groundbreaking changes for 7.0, I hope in time they shake things up for longevity of the game.

SO TRUE. HW was the worst expansion in this game. People remember it with rose tinted glasses because of the story. But the rest of the game? Absolutely abysmal. It took them the entire expansion to figure it out. And Stormblood was shit on because of the story, but the content of the game was top notch and only bested by ShB. Heavensward was a horrible expansion. Raid scene died, jobs were woldly unbalance and a colossal mess, side content was almost inexistant, for the time the relics felt braindead (precursor to the Manderville)... And IMO even the story isnt that great because its all the fantasy clichees in the book.
