There are a number of trials in FFXIV which I thought I'd really enjoy the theme but with the VA intact. Couldn't find any examples of this anywhere so I captured it myself.
@@sawyer3244 my thoughts exactly seeing him for the first time. I was like “he’s gonna turn into some grotesque beast” becomes innocence “damn... wish I could do that”
@@Jordan-wv2xz as someone else mentioned; he's been treated as a god-king basically all his life. He controls the sin eaters, the things everyone fears, making him feel like even more like a god. He's almost in control and he knows it. But I also see what you mean xD
Vauthry is the definition of innocence. In his first form, he is a literal giant baby, a symbol of innocence that even his parents raised him to never be wrong and why he threw a temper tantrum when Alphinaud questioned his rule in Eulmore. And even during his final moments, he claimed innocence asking what he did wrong. He was always raised on what he did right but never what he did wrong.
Its depressing that he literally cant tell what he's doing is wrong. He's essentially a child whose been manipulated into thinking every action since his first kill was completely noble and right. He is physically incapable of understanding why he was wrong, and that makes him all the more tragic.
I could be wrong, but I always thought Vauthry was called Innocence because he was the only sin eater to ever have been a sin eater from birth. Every other sin eater that existed, including Eden, was converted into one or "forgiven" at some point, going by sin eater names. To not be a sin eater or stand against them is a "sin", thus most of the other sin eaters have forgiven in their names. Whereas Vauthry, having being at least part sin eater his whole life, has never "sinned", thus he is innocent.
@@frediculous1191 I think it's a bit of both. Part because he was born a sin eater and so by their logic, he was never sinful, and part because he was raised to believe he was an ultimate paragon of good
@@Luxai At this point, his upbrining, he probably doesn't even know the difference. You'e gotta remember, he got corrupted to the very core by his parents in exchange of power and that he has no control over it. And the very thing he does becomes natural for him, his cruelty becomes his righteousness and he has devouted himself to it since BIRTH.
Passion is also another word for suffering in its original meaning. So him being forced to defeat us is his trial and what he must suffer in order to ascend to godhood.
It's true though, we came from another world. It would be like aliens coming down and taking away your sugar saying it's bad for you and then killing you for eating it XD
I JUST noticed that when the wings start emerging from Vauthry’s back, they literally tear it in half like he’s a cocoon for the Lightwarden inside him…
I always I thought vauthry size came from him being a glutton, but now I can’t get the image out of my head that innocence’s body is growing inside vauthry like a parasite
I think the most fucked up thing about vauthry is that he seems like a stereotypical megalomaniac with a god complex, then you learn that he was CONDITIONED FROM BIRTH to believe that he was a godlike savior who would shepherd the lost to peace everlasting. and vauthry's every interaction suddenly makes perfect sense and it's somehow more horrifying than if he was just some evil dude. Vauthry sincerely believed that he was a good person, that his every action was righteous, he believed he had every right to punish those he deemed wicked, that HE alone was the one who had the right to determine good and evil. and in terms of the sin eaters, his name even lines up with that idea. As a human and as a sineater, he was the epitome of innocence. I feel like under vastly different circumstances vauthry could have very well become the saint he believed himself to be. it's just that this instance his stubborn, conditioned refusal to change himself and self-reflect was what led him down this evil path. vauthry even had command over the sineaters, if he'd come up with a more efficient means of keeping them fed with living aether he could have used them to turn the 1st into a true paradise. but vauthry was not a smart man, simply a man with no understanding of how reality works burdened with the deluded task of being the 1st shard's savior.
and Vauthrys mind takes it over like Zenos does with Shinryu. in fact alot of parallels can be drawn. Like Zenos, Vauthry is a result of Ascian tampering from the womb, Vauthrys father had the same sort of imperialistic mentality, they even share the same VA I think (varis and vautrys father). plus the two female guards dressed in red and blue.
I still consider this my favorite fight of the expansion. SUFFER SUFFER SUFFER. SUFFER AND KNOW YOUR FOLLY. and then when he starts realizing he's kinda getting dunked on.. switches to Damn you, why do you not fall? Why? WHHHYYYYYY?! Shit just hits so good. Like I get weirdly emotional when I rewatch these fights with the VA clearly coming through, cause it was just TOO GOOD that first time.
@@Agostobenjamin lol! yea It was soooo well done. The flowing hair, the way the camera pans around, his epic voice lines, the swords shooting out of the wings....SO GOOD! The ffxiv team sure knows how to choreographan entrance
There’s a lot of really neat stuff with the title. My personal favorite is that while he may have been born Innocent he too was twisted. Innocence, freedom, joy, even light are not unquestionably pure. All that is good can grow corrupt and foul, though likewise can that which we deem evil be made pure.
@@lemonlefleur6236 the title of innocence has nothing to do with him being malicious. And i would argue he ISNT twisted, his view is innocent for precisely that reason - he whole heartedly believes in his own cause, powers, and judgement - he never learns/accepts the truth of it so he remains "innocent" hence his name
@@Red-wc1br From his perspective he’s surely just and holy, but what he thinks is irrelevant. We cannot trust a madman to determine his own innocence. It may all be the result of circumstances outside of his control, but that doesn’t change the terrible things that he’s done.
Dude I was expecting him to turn into a big blob monster , my face was this when he transformed :O everyone in chat that was new was like WTH!!!! amazing experience the first time man I love SE they are amazing and story telling!
This might be just a wishful thinking but...I hope in Post Endwalker we get someone who's a reincarnation of Vauthry himself.Someone who's extremely blessed but doesn't turned out to be like this Vauthry. He really deserves a second chance,As much as i think his actions should not go unpunished,It's not his fault that he's the way he was because he wasn't raised properly and literally molded to be like this ever since he's a baby.He literally doesn't know the difference between wrong and good...That's the Definition of Innocence.
@@christopherbravo1813not to mention that the fact he turned out the way he did is partly because he was half-sin eater. Any reincarnation would be just a regular guy
This is officially my favorite version of this song, if only because I ADORE how much of an ass Vauthry is. His VA was.....immaculate. ....I'll see myself out....
The path that we walk- Is lost in the flood- Here proud angels bathe in- Their wages of blood- At this, the worlds end, do we cast out tomorrow- We fall
It's funny that Dark Souls vids are full of comments drawing parallel between the smallest thing in there and Berserk, and here nobody bats an eye when the boss literally transforms into Griffith. Not to mention all the parallels between Eulmore and Fantasia. Oh well.
A ruler who had no training, overpowering absolutely, ascended after a little bit of combat to 'golden'. This guy is literally Frieza if Frieza was ignorant and benign.
Currently just entered endwalker not sure how it can possibly top this expansion; innoncence, elidibus, emet-selch. I feel like shadowbringers set my expectations too high and now nothing will top it.
I off-tanked this fight after running it only once a long time ago. Practice from EW content helped me get by (also tank = does not die as fast lol) and by the gods, a fun fight with a banger music is just too damn good.
Doing other languages could be fun but there are a number of English language trials and dungeons that I will likely be doing first. [Insert generic YoshiP comment about more community feedback.]
I had to get used to his voice, because I refuse to play games with English VA's don't care. But, this fight set the stage for what I THOUGHT would've been a good primal list to farm. Shadowbringers fucking garbage primals after Innocence.. Only other good one was WoL everyone else too long, boring and music is garbage.. Least Innocence didn't let me down.
