With Vrtra being so clearly shown in the trailers for Endwalker I felt it was time to address everyone's favorite overgrown lizards. I hope you all enjoy!

The image of Midgardsormr hurtling across the universe with seven eggs on nothing more than hope is way more affecting now after EW.

My favorite aspect of dragon culture is how they use song for their documentation of history and communication.

One curious thing I realized: Uncle Midgar, as an alien entity is a whole living being, that comes with his eggs to a shattered world, The Source, where all beings have so less aether than his and his children

I’m here learning from you too Scribe, you’ve taught me much especially about other jobs that I haven’t done yet or never will. I’m limited by my own lack of progress as I’ve finished Heavensward, my three sets of job quests between lvl 60 and 65 for Summoner, Scholar and White Mage and I’m finally ready to finally start Stormblood by going beyond Baelsar’s Wall. And while I have accidentally come across spoilers for parts of the game beyond my current progress, there aren’t many and I know little about what’s to come and I value that. I was accidentally told about what happens in Ul’dah at the feast before the WoL heads to Ishgard and thus I played the Crystal Braves part of the MSQ with dread knowing part of what’s to come. Interestingly even by then I had almost no affection for the Scions. I found Yda stupid and selfish as she’d demonstrated when dealing with the Sylphs, feigning injury to force the WoL to dance for them instead of sharing the duties. Papalymo hadn’t actually managed to irritate me but neither did I feel much. I despised Y’shtola for her absolutely disgraceful conduct when dealing with the Company of Heroes regarding fighting Titan. The useless little ***** just stood around deliberately making the WoL do all the petty work. I mean even if she’d figured out the real reason would it have cost her anything to secretly TELL the WoL instead of joining their mocking of the WoL when the purpose was achieved? It wasn’t until her dealings with Matoya later that I forgave her. Let’s see, I think I was okay with Thancred and Urianger at least during ARR. Haven’t seen sure of him since the whole four adventurers who also killed Primals fiasco though. Minfilia annoyed the everloving crap out of me. For the whole of ARR and quite some time afterwards she is the only other person that has Hydelyn’s Blessing and the Echo so she’s one of only two people known to be immune to Tempering and *she doesn’t even try to learn any of the War or Magic classes so that she can kill Primals too*. In theory Minfilia could use soul stones in the same way the WoL does. But even if not she could still learn one of the base classes like gladiator or Conjurer or something. She would have easy access to some of the best trainers in Eorzea. Oh… just imagine how glorious it could have been to have a combat armed/garbed, capable Minfilia standing side by side with the WoL against the likes of Titan, Garuda or Leviathan. Imagine Livia raiding the Waking Sands against a Minfilia like that? As it was, being separated from the other Scions was no great loss to me. In fact I was disappointed that Alphinaud and Tataru had managed to cling on to my WoL into Ishgard. A feeling soon emphasised by being forced to fight on Tataru’s behalf. Anyway I found my new Ishgardian companions much more agreeable. I’m still not sold on the way the Ul’dah Sultana issue was resolved. Seemed like a walk back by the writers. And with Y’shtola’s return honestly I felt more for her sister who has worked with me closely during the Summoner job questline. Anyway so while the end of ARR and some of the lead up to going to Ishgard to start Heavensward had been spoiled for me, actually avoiding spoilers during and after Heavensward plus most of Stormblood and Shadowbringers has been much more successful. So, I didn’t see what happened after the Vault coming. I went ugly red from crying and startled my cat when I then started cussing out two certain npcs and I swore they’d pay for this even if I had to burn whatever Azys La was to the ground. A couple play sessions later and as I was running on Scholar I made a point to smack the npc enemy actually responsible with my best Ruin spell as many times as possible between heals. Also dropped a few on the main boss of that first too. I didn’t know any of it was coming. Not Ysayle or Estinien nor the twists between Hvaesrelgyr, Nidhogg and the way things went down. I was pleased that Alphinaud matured a great deal. I’m moderately fond of him now. Still judging Alisae and Tataru has her uses. I’m still not sure about the other Scions really. I’d say Alphinaud feels like the only actual friend of my WoL of the group per se. Aymeric, Lucia and the Fortempts family do feel like friends/siblings by now but not the actual Scions. But yeah before I went off to level up my gathering and crafting jobs and got all my relevant job quests done, the last MSQ I did was having both the Primal and Machine (I’m trying to avoid actual spoilers during this post) after that pricy cucoon opened. As a result my WoL has only just learned about a certain secret that Yda has been keeping all along. From the moment the WoL first met her. And of course all the other Scions minus the new members like the WoL and Alphinaud knew about but decided to play along and never trust the WoL that has gone through so much with them, endured so much for them. *Mild spoilers for ARR and Heavensward below.* Between the appalling behaviours the Scions have done to the WoL I’ve mentioned above, I’m finding it very hard to like them. I mean, Thancred just chilling out in the Dravanian forests without even trying to make it to civilisation in the form of Idleshire or Ishgard itself and try to make contact with the Scions or even someone allied that he could trust such as the Admiral or Seedseer. We know they never bought the story of the WoL killing the Sultana and that nonsense. They could have both hidden him and told him the WoL is in Ishgard. Y’shtola okay that’s understandable as she was trapped in the livestream and needed rescuing. Once we pull her out she’s actually very useful in providing help and getting us to Matoya ect. Minfilia…. Yeah I don’t know what to think of that one. Guess Hydelyn really needed her. Can’t really object to that although I find the whole thing weird. Urianger, oh boy I’m not actually sure exactly what he did precisely or why. I mean it’s clear that he made some kind of dark deal with the Ascians and those four “Warriors of Darkness” but I’m unsure what any side wanted out of any of it. The Ascian want to bring about a few more Calamities to utterly destroy Eorzea although the why or how I don’t know. Frankly knowing that they want even one more Calamity and actively try to sow death and chaos is enough for me to oppose them. Why the Warriors of Darkness fight kinda makes sense. They believe destroying the planet of FF14 will save their reality though quite why they trust the Ascians is a guess. And Urianger played all three sides against each other culminating in that wildly unfair fight where they just get up again and again no matter how many times I pummelled them into the dirt. Then Urianger has them and the WoL all use their crystals and… something happens? We’re in the place or dream where the six crystals are gathered, Minfilia then takes their home and patches up their reality? I’m a bit confused on what happened exactly. Either way I’m not sure what to think of Urianger. It seems clear that he played all sides against each other then carried out a plan that saved Eorzea, sent the WoD’s home and helped it too. Although why he couldn’t just discreetly tell the WoL and Alisae makes me wonder. And then there’s “Yda” and Papalymo. Clearly after being dumped from the Flow spell they ended up with the Ala Mighan resistance fighters. And yeah okay if they emerged butt naked in the freezing cold of a desert night and the rebels found them and aided them then I can understand why they stayed a bit to repay the favour and being wanted by Ul’dah it’s probably good to lay low as rebels for awhile. But once the names of the WoL and Scions had been cleared they really should have left the rebels and made contact with the nearest ally. Say Raubhan or the Sultana herself. Even someone like Momodi could have told them that yeah the WoL is in Ishgard now trying to end the war between Ishgard and dragons. But no, they stay with the rebels and make no serious attempts to send word. We have to wait until the Dragonsong war is over and Griffin is making a dangerous nuisance of himself before we find them. I can’t fault Papalymo too much because in the end he acted for the Scions and Eorzea when it really mattered at the ultimate cost to him. But Yda? Or should I say, Lyse? It seems a bit insulting that she’s had a secret like that and everyone else of the Scions before the WoL and others joined yet even after everything the WoL did for them and they still didn’t trust him/her. I’m not going to list it all but we rescued their leader at least twice, killed half a dozen Primals just because they asked, not to mention other stuff. Yet all this time they never trusted him/her. Perhaps that’s why I’ve never actually really liked the Scions. They’ve always felt like the organisation that my WoL is doing work for as a contractor. They’re colleagues not friends. But it still makes lore videos fun for me to watch even though my position in the game means I can’t watch some yet for spoilers. I personally could really use a lore video on Urianger so I know for sure what he did regarding the WoDs. Aside from that job lore videos are fun. A look into roles and things I’ll never do.
